Pursuit near Hillsboro, North Dakota, ends with man seriously injured

Jun. 1—HILLSBORO, N.D. — A police pursuit near Hillsboro over the weekend ended when a man crashed his motorcycle. The incident began shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, on Traill County Highway 81, about 5 miles south of Hillsboro. According to a report issued by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old Gardner, N.D., man was driving a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle. The driver's name has not yet been released. The release said law enforcement received a call about a reckless motorcycle driver on Interstate 29, near the Mayville exit. Troopers responded and tried to stop the motorcycle, but instead a pursuit began, eventually leaving the interstate and heading onto rural highways. According to the NDHP release, "the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, entered the west ditch, overturned a number of times and came to rest in the ditch where the driver was ejected. NDHP personnel on scene rendered medical aid. The driver was transported by ambulance, then life-flighted to a local hospital." The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.

Social Media Platform X (Twitter) is Down - Here's Why

The social media platform X - previously known as Twitter before Elon Musk's $44 billion purchase of the platform - started experiencing outages on a small scale on since May 22. According to a report from Wired, a fire broke out at the data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, leased by Elon Musk's X, "forcing an extended response from emergency crews." "Firefighters arrived at the Hillsboro Technology Park, in a suburb west of Portland, at 10:21 am, according to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue spokesperson Piseth Pich. They found a room with batteries that were deemed to be involved in the fire," Wired reported at the time. "Pich noted that the fire had not spread to other parts of the building, but said the room in question was heavy with smoke. As of 3:00 pm, the crew was still on the scene." According to the report, X appears to lease space from a building linked to Digital Realty, one of the largest developers of data centers. Ryan Young, vie president of Americas operations for the company confirmed in a statement that there was a 'fire-related incident at our PDX11 facility' but that it had been contained and that the fire department had left. 'All personnel were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries,' Young stated. 'We continue to monitor the situation, prioritizing the safety of our personnel, the integrity of the facility, and minimizing customer impact.' X appeared to confirm an issue - though without specifics - in a statement released on May 22. 'X is aware some of our users are experiencing performance issues on the platform today,' the account posted. 'We are experiencing a data center outage and the team is actively working to remediate the issue." Functionality of the site eventually returned, but outages spiked once again on Saturday, May 24 when DownDefector noticed an increase in Media Platform X (Twitter) is Down - Here's Why first appeared on Men's Journal on May 24, 2025

BREAKING NEWS Twitter is down: Elon Musk's social platform X goes offline as thousands report problems

X, formerly known as Twitter, has gone down for millions of users around the world, with the website, app and XPro all affected. Thousands of people reported problems in the UK, as well as in countries all around the world. It's bad news for Elon Musk after the social media platform experienced similar problems yesterday. There was also a localised outage across much of the East Coast of America on Thursday. More than 11,000 users recorded issues with the app in the UK with website tracker Downdetector. In the US, more than 25,000 reported issues. They described logging in to the app only for no posts to be shown, and receiving an error message stating: 'Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.' It comes after a huge fire broke out at a data centre in Hillsboro Technology Park in Oregon, US, on Thursday, where it is understood X leases space. In a written statement to local publication Oregon Live, Digital Realty said of the fire: 'The incident is under control, and the fire department has concluded its on-site response. All personnel were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries. 'We continue to monitor the situation, prioritizing the safety of our personnel, the integrity of the facility, and minimizing customer impact.' It is not known if the outages are linked to damage caused by the fire. Users who jumped ship to rival app BlueSky took to the app on Saturday to gloat about its poor performance. 'Twitter is fully down again lmfao,' wrote one user. 'Twitter is down again for a second day, that app is cooked,' added another. The crash comes amid a string of blows for Musk, including a political defeat in Wisconsin, a sharp decline in Tesla 's stock value and growing criticism over his government role and the so-called 'DOGE' initiative. Musk recently claimed victory over a new voter ID law in Wisconsin, despite Republican candidate Brad Schimel losing to Democrat Susan Crawford in April's Supreme Court election. Reports show Musk and his allies spent more than $20 million supporting Schimel, the former Wisconsin attorney general, in an effort to shift the court's ideological balance. Crawford received significant backing from billionaires George Soros and J.B. Pritzker. To make matters worse, Tesla sales plummeted 13 percent that same month. Some experts linked the drop to Musk's polarizing posts on X and intensifying competition in China from domestic electric vehicle manufacturers.

Fire Breaks Out at a Data Center Leased by Elon Musk's X

Photograph:A fire broke out Thursday morning at a data center in Hillsboro, Oregon leased by Elon Musk's X, forcing an extended response from emergency crews, according to multiple sources who spoke to WIRED. The sources required anonymity as they aren't authorized to speak publicly about the company. Firefighters arrived at the Hillsboro Technology Park, in a suburb west of Portland, at 10:21 am, according to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue spokesperson Piseth Pich. They found a room with batteries that were deemed to be involved in the fire. Pich noted that the fire had not spread to other parts of the building, but said the room in question was heavy with smoke. At the time of writing, the crew was still on the scene. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment from WIRED. It could not be learned whether server operations at the data center had been affected by the incident. Before Elon Musk bought X, the company had three data centers in Sacramento, Portland, and Atlanta. This ensured that if one data center went down, traffic could be shifted to the other two—and split so no single data center was overwhelmed. Around Christmas Eve 2022, Musk shut down X's data center in Sacramento in an effort to cut costs. The company experienced a major outage in the wake of the shutdown. Over the next six months, the company moved more than 2,573 server racks from the Sacramento facility to data centers in Portland and Atlanta, according to internal documents. In the Portland area, X appears to lease space from a building that has been linked to Digital Realty, one of the world's largest developers of data centers. Digital Realty provides varying levels of operating support at its sites, which can have one or more tenants. It's unclear if X shares this facility with other companies. Digital Realty did not immediately respond to a request for comment. X's parent company, xAI, has come under fire in recent months for its rapid expansion of power capacity at a new data center in Memphis, which opened last year. That facility, which Musk named Colossus, was built up at a breakneck speed to train xAI's Grok and other AI tools. The company installed more than 30 methane-powered gas turbines, but because the turbines are temporary, a federal permit for pollution control isn't required, which appears to exploit a loophole in the Clean Air Act. The facility has drawn widespread criticism from surrounding Black and brown communities, who are already exposed to a large amount of air pollution and industrial emissions from other facilities in the area.
