Right-wing outfit forcibly shuts KFC outlet in Ghaziabad over sale of meat during Sawan
A group of men allegedly affiliated with the Hindu Raksha Dal forcibly shut down a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad's Vasundhara on Thursday, police said. They allegedly arrived at the food outlet and protested against the sale of meat during the holy month of Sawan and the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. A purported video of the incident, which surfaced online on Friday, showed a group of men raising slogans like 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Jai Shri Ram', as they protested in front of the outlet's entrance, before forcibly pulling down the shutters. Police said the outlet does not fall on the officially demarcated Kanwar Yatra route and that there is no government order banning the sale of non-vegetarian food in the area. 'Eight to 10 boys gathered and staged a minor protest. The outlet does not fall on the Kanwar route. An FIR has been registered and the group is being identified,' Indirapuram SHO Ravendra Gautam said. 'An incident came to our notice on July 17, where some individuals created a ruckus at a food outlet and tried to shut it down. Police immediately reached the spot, dispersed the group, and ensured normal operations resumed at the restaurant,' said ACP Abhishek Srivastav. A Nazeer outlet in the area has also been allegedly shut down by the same group.

Right-wing group storms Ghaziabad eateries over sale of meat during Sawan
Members of the right-wing Hindu Raksha Dal on Thursday (July 17, 2025) stormed a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad, demanding a ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food during the Hindu month of Sawan. A similar protest was staged outside a neighbouring outlet of local eatery chain Nazir, leading to the temporary closure of both establishments. Visuals of the incident circulated widely on social media showed members of the outfit carrying saffron flags and chanting slogans such as 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Har Har Mahadev', while forcibly pulling down the shutter of the KFC outlet. In the video, the group is seen entering the restaurant, confronting staff, and demanding that operations be stopped. 'All of these products should be banned immediately, we will not tolerate this in Sawan,' a protester is heard shouting. Consumer panel says Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the incident, holding it responsible for what they termed a deterioration in law and order. 'Such actions are a violation of the fundamental rights of citizens. When there is no ban, how can individuals storm a food chain and force it to shut down? It is a design to create disorder in society through groups that have become mainstream after the BJP assumed power. Holy occasions are being used to fuel tension on communal lines,' Shahnawaz Alam, national secretary, Congress, said. VIDEO | Abhishek Srivastava, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Indirapuram, says, "A few youths created ruckus demanding a food outlet to close. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot immediately and removed them. Normal operation at the outlet was ensured. A… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) July 18, 2025 The Samajwadi Party also condemned the protest. 'If the BJP or right-wing groups want a ban on meat sales, they should ask the government to close slaughterhouses and prohibit the sale of meat across India for one month during Sawan. Half of the slaughterhouses are run by BJP-linked people. Such unruly action in closing a food chain highlights a failure of governance,' party spokesperson Sunil Singh Yadav 'Sajan' said. The incident also triggered debate on social media, with many users criticising the actions of the protestors. Sawan, also known as Shravana, is considered a holy month in the Hindu calendar, particularly by devotees of Lord Shiva. Many observe fasts and refrain from consuming meat, alcohol, and even onion and garlic during this period. The Kanwar Yatra, a major pilgrimage, is also undertaken during this time.

Hindu Outfit Shuts KFC, Nazeer Foods Outlets In Ghaziabad Over Sawan
Members of the Hindu Raksha Dal on Friday forcefully downed the shutters of two popular eateries - KFC and Nazeer Foods - in Ghaziabad over the sale of meat during the ongoing period of Sawan, in the presence of police who remained mute spectators. Sources said the incident in Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad comes even as the sale of non-vegetarian food items are not banned in the concerned region amid the ongoing Sawan period and Kanwar Yatra. Videos of the incident showed the group chanting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Jai Shri Ram" as they confronted the restaurants' staff members before downing the shutters. It also showed one of the members telling the staff at KFC that "this is Hindustan and whatever the Hindus want will happen here". The staff at KFC appears to be hassled and making a few phone calls over the protest. "We are protesting against KFC and Nazeer Foods here since this is a Hindu-populated area. Kanwar Yatras are held here but these people are selling meat here. How can you not respect the sentiments of the Hindus when they are the ones staying here. This is our festival and if anyone tries to interfere, then we will stage protests," one of the members said. He alleged that the outfit had already taken permission from the administration for the protest. "We do not have a written permission but since we are very active here, we keep talking to them and thus, obtained a verbal permission," he said. Another member said: "They will have to shut their shops. If these KFC and Nazeer Foods outlets reopen, we will stage a similar protest and shut them down." The Kanwar Yatra, which began on June 10, sees the participation of lakhs of devotees every year who travel mostly on foot from Haridwar to their local Shiva temples, carrying holy water from the Ganga to offer on Shivlingas. The Uttar Pradesh government had recently come under criticism for its move to make it mandatory for all shops along the Kanwar Yatra route to have proper licenses and clearly display the owner's original name.
