The ancient seaside town featuring in a new ITV drama – and you can stay for £26

THE new ITV drama Karen Pirie has viewers gripped, and they can't help but check out the backdrop of Scotland too. One of the filming locations included in the second series is Kinghorn in Fife, which has a beautiful coastline and a holiday park along the bay that offers stays from just £26. 5 5 Kinghorn is a coastal town and popular seaside resort in Fife. It's got rich history too dating back to the Mesolithic era, it's also known as "Kingdom of Fife" and was once the home of many Scottish monarchs. Nowadays it is well-known for its two sandy beaches, Kinghorn Harbour beach and Pettycur Bay beach, which are what is listed as the best thing to do on Tripadvisor. One visitor to Pettycur Bay wrote: "Just love this little gem! When the tide is out there's a ridiculously huge expansive beach that goes for miles. "It's never mobbed there I can't understand why because it's an awesome place. On a clear day, there are good views of the Forth bridges." Anyone who wants to head to Kinghorn on a break can stay at the Pettycur Bay Holiday Park. The park is found on a hill overlooking the Firth of Forth, so you will almost always have the best views around. As for facilities, the Pettycur Bay Holiday Park has an indoor swimming pool, amusement arcade, and children's play areas both indoors and outdoors. There's also a restaurant, a lounge bar and live entertainment like quizzes, magic shows and singers. As for where to stay, you can choose from five different types of caravans which vary in style, quality, and features. 5 5 The caravan's range from two stars, like Raith, to Balbirnie which is the executive five stars caravan. Guests can also stay on the Pettycur Bay campsite with pitches from £26 per night. When one writer visited Pettycur Bay Holiday Park, he said that it felt like he was in a "different world." He continued to add that supplies could be picked up at the small shop in the Bay Hotel, less than a five-minute walk away. And with a swimming pool, bar and restaurant there was actually no need to venture outside the park. The holiday park is also one hour away from the popular cities of St Andrews and Edinburgh. Currently, Kinghorn in Fife is starring in the ITV detective drama, Karen Pirie. Other filming locations include Loch Locmond, Glasgow, Glenrothes, and the historic Caiplie Caves. Plus, the Center Parcs boss reveals what to expect from brand new holiday park in Scotland – and future village locations. And the popular seaside town dubbed a 'must-visit' set for HUGE £16million retail and restaurant development. 5

Penn Hills Shop 'n Save closing its doors after 34 years

The Shop 'n Save grocery store in Penn Hills is closing its doors after more than three decades in business. The Hartley family, which operates Shop 'n Save stores in Penn Hills and Plum, says the decision to close the store was not one they made lightly. "This store has been a part of so many family traditions, grocery trips, holiday meals, and neighborhood conversations," the family said. "We're thankful to our loyal customers and dedicated team members who have supported us over the past 34 years." The family says they'll start a clearance sale on Thursday and will be keeping their regular business hours for the time being. Anyone who has Shop 'n Save gift cards will be able to redeem them at other locations, including the Holiday Park store in Plum that the family operates and says will remain open. "Thank you for 34 incredible years," the family said. A final closing date hasn't been announced.

Te Kūiti Holiday Park closes after running at $30k loss each year

Te Kūiti Holiday Park will close on Monday. Photo: Waitomo District Council After six unsuccessful years, Waitomo District Council is calling time on the Te Kūiti Holiday Park, which will close on Monday. Council chief executive Ben Smit said the holiday park, which was built before he started at the council, was an unusual asset for a council to own. However, Waitomo owns two - it also owns and operates the Marokopa Holiday Park. Te Kūiti Holiday Park opened in April 2019 and Smit said it only ever attracted around 200 to 250 visitors a year and never covered costs. "It never really had a heyday," he said. The facility cost about $45,000 a year to maintain and operate, and only raised revenue of around $13,000, meaning ratepayers in the small King Country town were subsidising the facility by about $30,000 a year. The decision to close the facility was determined at Waitomo District Council's monthly council meeting on 27 May. Shortly after the decision, Mayor John Robertson posted online that the decision was an example of council acting decisively. "The Te Kūiti Holiday Park has been a drain on rates ever since it opened in December 2018. "Hardly used for the purpose it was built, sometimes used inappropriately, it cost a packet to build and has been consuming over $30,000 per annum of ratepayer money to operate," he said. He didn't think the council should be running holiday parks and posted the council was hoping to lease the coastal Marokopa Holiday Park out to a suitable operator. Smit said the district served freedom campers well, which might be part of why the holiday park was under-utilised. "[Several locations offer] a really good environment for campers to stay, so there's no real drive for them to use the Te Kūiti Holiday Park." In a statement the council said the motorhome dump station near the holiday park would remain operational. It also said planning was underway to relocate the Te Kūiti bathroom and kitchen facilities to the Marokopa Holiday Park to replace ageing facilities there. Other assets from the closed holiday park would be repurposed elsewhere. Dead fish incident leads to no swim warning

An investigation has been launched after dead fish were found in a Cornish river. The Environment Agency (EA) said it received reports at about 17:45 BST on Thursday of the incident in St Austell River, known locally as the "White River". The EA has warned people not to swim at the nearby Pentewan designated bathing water area due to "pollution from sewage". A post on X from EA's South West team said the cause of the incident had not yet been established. The designated bathing area is on Pentewan beach, which is privately owned by the Pentewan Sands Holiday Park. EA said the beach was approximately 1.1km (0.7 miles) wide and its water quality has been rated as excellent every year from 2021 to 2024.
