This Morning's Rochelle Humes announces huge change to the show - as ITV introduces drastic cuts to its daytime schedule
In a bid to make This Morning feel more relatable to everyday viewers, ITV bosses have relaxed a long-standing fashion rule - and presenter Rochelle Humes was quick to capitalise on the change. For years, This Morning presenters followed an unwritten but closely monitored dress code. While Holly Willoughby was known for her pastel midi dresses and cinched waists, Alison Hammond usually opts for colourful, floaty tunics paired with statement jewellery. Smart has always been the order of the day on the This Morning sofa, with one item of clothing firmly off limits. But all that has changed. Rochelle, now a staple of the This Morning rotation, appeared live on air in a pair of light-wash River Island denim jeans - marking a surprising turn for a programme long associated with polished, preened daytime glamour. Posting on her TikTok ahead of today's show, the 35-year-old former Saturdays singer revealed: 'There's a new rule, we didn't used to be allowed to wear jeans, did we? But we can wear jeans now. This is amazing news for me.' For years, This Morning presenters followed an unwritten but closely monitored dress code. While Holly Willoughby was known for her pastel midi dresses and cinched waists, Alison Hammond usually opts for colourful, floaty tunics paired with statement jewellery. But all that has changed Rochelle, now a staple of the This Morning rotation, appeared live on air in a pair of light-wash River Island denim jeans - marking a surprising turn for a programme long associated with polished, preened daytime glamour Now, amid a wave of behind-the-scenes upheaval and fresh revelations about ITV's flagship daytime show, Rochelle's relaxed denim look is not the only change at This Morning studio. Cat Deeley, recently installed as one of This Morning's new anchors, has been asked to lean back into her Brummie accent - softened during her years on American TV - to appeal to the UK daytime crowd. An ITV insider previously told the Mail: 'This Morning want presenters their audiences can relate to and there were worries Cat was too perfect and preened.' But the changes go far deeper than denim and dialects. While This Morning has largely avoided big budget cuts during the recent ITV upheaval, the long running series will be forced to significantly reduce production value as a result of cost saving. Presented by Cat Deeley, 48, and Ben Shephard, 50, as well as Alison Hammond, 50, and Dermot O'Leary, 51, the programme has become known for its big musical theatre performances and outside broadcasts, including at the This Morning forest, which was purchased by the channel in 2021. But insiders have claimed sending the likes of host Alison to Los Angeles for interviews with Hollywood stars and large-scale production items will be scrapped. Across the hall at Good Morning Britain, ITV's breakfast stablemate, things are even more turbulent. After a shaky start in 2014, GMB grew into a ratings fixture, regularly drawing over a million viewers. Now, with numbers slipping to around 700,000, it's facing its biggest overhaul yet. The show is set to merge with ITV's broader news division, produced by ITN, in a move insiders say is aimed at streamlining operations - and slashing costs. With BBC Breakfast still holding a dominant lead (often topping a million daily viewers), ITV bosses hope a revamp could close the 400,000-viewer gap. Plans are still in flux, but changes include a new studio, a more serious editorial tone, and shared correspondent teams across the day's bulletins.

The team at GMB will be streamlined as the programme will be produced by ITN and moved to Gray's Inn Road. Lorraine will be cut back to just 30 minutes of airtime and will only be broadcast for 30 weeks a year. Cuts of episodes will also affect Loose Women which will also be shown on a seasonal basis. This is as This Morning will now have to be a part of one streamlined and shared team of producers. After the biggest shake-up in decades, The Sun takes a look back at some of the biggest scandals to rock ITV Daytime. Phillip Vs Holly 11 This Morning star Phillip Schofield left ITV after he finally came clean about an affair with a younger male colleague Credit: Rex Phillip Schofield joined This Morning back in 2002, before he was joined by his Dancing On Ice co-star Holly Willoughby in 2009. The duo became the golden couple of ITV, bringing home 12 consecutive awards at the NTAs. She was by his side as they presented the show drunk in the aftermath of ceremony and she comforted him when he came out as gay live on air in February 2020. Away from the show, the pair would also spend time together on holidays in Portugal with their families. ITV Daytime Shake-Up: Major Changes to Lorraine and Loose Women Revealed However, their relationship soured after Phillip Schofield's brother was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage boy in April 2023. Speculation continued to rise of a secret feud behind the scenes as they appeared to lose their chemistry on the airwaves. Phillip eventually resigned from the show as ITV declared he would be given a new primetime show as well as continue his role on The Soap Awards. However, Philip later admitted to having an 'unwise but not illegal' relationship with a younger male colleague. He also admitted that he lied to his bosses, co-stars and even his own management about the affair as he stepped down from ITV. An external investigation found that just one junior worker admitted to knowing about Schofield's relationship. Other staff slammed the probe as a 'whitewash' as one insider said that investigators could have found 10 people in one day who knew about the affair. Loose Women rows 11 Coleen Nolan went off air after a huge row with her CBB housemate Kim Woodburn Credit: Rex Features Coleen Nolan was at the centre of Loose Women's most infamous showdown ever, when an interview with Kim Woodburn went off the rails in 2018. The Nolans sister was forced to deny being a bully after she and her sister Linda were accused of ganging up on her former Celebrity Big Brother co-star. The interview ended with Kim storming off the set, shouting: 'I wouldn't want to sit and talk with lying trash. She's a horrible person. You are trash, you're a piece of filth!" Coleen quit Loose Women for a while due to all the backlash she received afterwards - and said she cried for 10 days straight. While Saira Khan quit Loose Women in 2021 - but she certainly didn't go quietly. The former Apprentice star called the ITV daytime show "too toxic" and said she was "absolutely not" friends with all of the show's line-up. She told Platinum magazine: "People think you're best friends with everybody on Loose Women. 'You're absolutely not! You have to just tolerate [some people] because you've got to get the job done." She then unfollowed many of her co-stars including Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams, whom she often shared the panel with. Lorraine backlash 11 Lorraine Kelly was caught up in a huge row over her taxes Credit: Rex In 2019, the TV presenter rejected the taxman's claim the company she gets paid through for her work is a front. The Scottish star signed a deal with ITV in 2012 through her firm Albatel Ltd but HM Revenue and Customs insisted she became a staffer and sent her a huge retrospective bill of £1.2million in 2016. Lorraine had repaid £1.02million, but won a dispute over the outstanding difference - although she was later left with a hefty legal bill despite successfully defending the claim. She told tax tribunal judge Jennifer Dean she was 'baffled' by HMRC's attitude and denied the money should have been deducted from her income. Lorraine has been freelance since 1992 and had since also worked for the BBC, Channel 4, Scottish TV, and Sky. Lorraine pointed out she received none of the perks available to ITV employees and gets no pension pot. At the time, Judge Dean described her as an 'honest, intelligent' super-talented freelancer. She concluded: 'The relationship between Ms Kelly and ITV was a contract for services and not that of employer and employee.' The judge also ruled Lorraine was entitled to deduct from her tax bill fees she paid her agent. Daybreak failure 11 Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley reunited to front the short-lived breakfast show, Daybreak Credit: ITV Before Good Morning Britain, bosses at ITV commissioned a completely different breakfast show. After GMTV came to an end after almost three decades on the air, execs wanted a completely different programme to fill the traditional breakfast slot. Daybreak was the name given to the show that was to be launched in 2010. The execs brought in Adrian Chiles and Christine Lampard - then Bleakley - who previously worked together on The One Show. However, the former TV duo were used to taking to the airwaves in a primetime slot. Viewers didn't quite warm to them at breakfast and they suffered other problems. The programme was broadcast from a bespoke space the very top of The London Studios. Although bosses expected a panoramic view of the London skyline, the sun had not yet risen at the start of the show, meaning a completely black background for the first hour. Various shuffles occured in the presenting lineup as Ranvir Singh, Kate Garraway, Matt Barbet, Aled Jones, John Stapleton and even Lorraine Kelly were brought in. Bosses opted to axe the show for good after nearly four years to launch GMB with Strictly Come Dancing star Susanna Reid. The former CNN star was given the main anchor slot alongside Susanna Reid for the first three days of the week. Throughout his tenure, the ratings rose consistently and on Piers' last day on air, the team beat their rivals on BBC Breakfast. However, Piers was also a vocal critic of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which drew ire from bosses. After her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Piers took to the airwaves to give his opinion, saying on various issues that he didn't believe the former Suits actress. Weather presenter Alex Beresford confronted Piers live on air, which resulted in the the former Britain's Got Talent judge storming out of the studio. Stephen Mulhern reveals surprising reason he won't miss co-host Holly Willoughby after she quit You Bet & DOI was axed
Stephen's currently on air with Celebrity Catchphrase - where he's now overtaken show legend Roy walker MAN OF HIS WORDS Stephen Mulhern reveals surprising reason he won't miss co-host Holly Willoughby after she quit You Bet & DOI was axed Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) STEPHEN MULHERN wants to kick off a new era of his career, ditching his 'Mr Beige' tag to become the new Bruce Forsyth. And it is all because sidekick Holly Willoughby ditched him for Netflix. 7 Stephen Mulhern reveals why he won't miss co-host Holly Willoughby Credit: ITV 7 Willoughby quit You Bet and Dancing On Ice has been axed, pictured with Stephen Credit: Rex The duo lost Dancing On Ice when it was shelved by ITV earlier this year and Holly also stepped back from co-hosting gameshow You Bet! with him. But Stephen remains busier than ever with Celebrity Catchphrase and three new shows in the works. Chatting to TV Biz, he said: 'I'm gutted she's not doing You Bet! with me, but I've had time to think about it and Bruce Forsyth was the first person to do You Bet! and he did it on his own. 'Matthew Kelly made it the best show on the telly. 'And every time I've been interviewed and they say, 'What show would you bring back?' I've always said 'You Bet!' 'So maybe it happened for a reason. We've filmed one episode already without Holly, and it felt very comfortable. Maybe it is just a one-presenter show.' 'I cried a lot' Stephen has become an ITV stalwart through his work with Holly, Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly. But now he is forging his own path. So much so that, chatting to my reporter Felicity on the Catchphrase set, the former magician revealed he has an idea for a show — and is coughing up his own cash to pay for it. Stephen said: 'It's very hard to pitch stuff on paper, you've got to show people so I'm just going to invest my own money into it then pitch it. Watch moment Holly Willoughby is left red-faced as Dancing On Ice co-host Stephen Mulhern makes x-rated joke on live TV 'I want to do a bit of magic, a bit of wind-up, practical jokes . . . the key is for the family to sit down and enjoy it.' And now Stephen is ready to finally let viewers see the real him after agreeing to film an ITV travelogue with Ant & Dec along the lines of An Idiot Abroad, called Accidental Tourist. Stephen said: 'Emma WIllis called me Fifty Shades Of Beige because all my food is beige. 'I don't travel a lot, I always go to Florida — the food's safe. 'But the idea is I step out my comfort zone. I was doing stuff that I'd never do. 'When people see it they'll see a completely different side. It's stripped down. Everyone's like, 'Oh Stephen, he's so nice' but on this I think you're going to see it. 'People have seen me on TV for nearly 25 years and they go, 'What's he like at home? Is he going out with someone?'' 7 Stephen is the face of Catchphrase Credit: ITV Being exposed in that way was a lot for Stephen. He added: 'You'll see a lot of emotion, 100 per cent. You'll see me totally out of my comfort zone. 'I remember sitting on the bed, and I was like, 'Was this the right choice? Was it the right decision?' 'They film and film and film. I've never done that. No one's ever seen me cry but I cried a lot.' For now Stephen is back in his comfort zone, filming a fresh series of Celebrity Catchphrase. Michelle Visage, Melanie Blatt and Seann Walsh are some of the celebs appearing on the current run, which continues this Sunday at 6.55pm on ITV and STV. And Stephen has now filmed more episodes than show legend Roy Walker. He said: 'I used to watch Catchphrase growing up. I love it because of the gameplay of it. You can never call it. 'The secret to success now is proper family entertainment. 'If you can't sum up the show in a sentence, it will never work. Play Your Cards Right, higher or lower. You Bet!, will they do it, will they not? 'Catchphrase, say what you see. Deal Or No deal, pick the right box.' So what is the secret to his own success? 'Because I'm not the rebel! You hear of certain performers or presenters and they go, 'They're bang out of order'. And you go, 'Well, they're not working now. . .''
