Hollyoaks legend's friends on show 'stopped talking to her' after she was axed
Former Hollyoaks star Stephanie Waring has revealed a number of her co-stars cut contact following her departure. Steph, 47, appeared in the Channel 4 soap intermittently for almost three decades between 1996 and 2024. The actress part of a mass cast exodus ahead of a huge revamp in September, which saw a reduction of episodes and a game-changing time jump. Cindy and her little brother Tom (Ellis Hollins) made a quick escape after learning the truth behind Dave Williams' (Dominic Power) identity. As the notorious gangster 'Blue', he plagued Warren Fox's (Jamie Lomas) life for weeks over the summer, kidnapping his children and forcing him to confess to the murder of his mother. After Dave pulled a gun on the siblings, Cindy whacked her husband over the head with a stapler before they both fled. Desperate to depart before she found herself in more danger, she resolved to stay with older sister Jude in Spain – with Tom agreeing that it would be best for him to move on too. Now, almost a year on, she has told the Secure The Insecure podcast that she misses her friendships with her fellow 'Oaks actors. 'I did feel the quiet from the family that I once knew on the show,' she admitted. 'No one's picking up the phone. No one's checking in. Everyone's just getting on with their life.' She continued: 'When you're in that Hollyoaks bubble and they call it a family – I feel you're only family when you're in it. 'You pour your heart out to these people, and then you go, and it's like it never happened. 'Where did that friendship go? There's only a couple of people I'm in contact with.' In April, she addressed her 'vulnerability' upon starting a new venture away from the acting industry, working as a life coach. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? 'That's all I've known for the last 30 years. When I lost my job last year, I knew that I would be in a place of vulnerability, because it wasn't guaranteed that I was just going to get another role, and you know, go onto the next project, it's really hard out there, it's not easy,' she said on Instagram. More Trending 'That's one of the reasons why I stayed in Hollyoaks for so long because it was security and I was doing what I loved every single day. 'I didn't even question it, so when I became vulnerable, I thought well what else can I do that would give me a purpose, and something that I was passionate about. Controversial Hollyoaks scene that stunned fans breached two Ofcom rules
A Hollyoaks scene featuring soap legend Kieron Richardson has been found to have breached two Ofcom rules. The broadcasting regulator stepped in to investigate the Channel 4 serial after product placement was used during an episode in February. A direct reference to the credit checking company ClearScore – which was previously the show's sponsor – was made by Kieron's character Ste Hay. In a conversation with his son Lucas (Oscar Curtis), he whipped out his phone and opened the app, exclaiming: 'See this? They've shown me some options based on my financial situation, and it looks like I can get you that laptop for your studies!' He was then seen to scroll through various features that the company offers, before adding: 'I really want you to make a go of this, Lucas. These guys are going to help me make it happen.' Product placement is allowed, though the guidelines in Rule 9.10 state that it shouldn't be 'unduly prominent'. Ofcom also cited Rule 9.9, which states that 'references to placed products, services and trade marks must not be promotional.' Fans were quick to pick up on the references, with one writing on X: 'The ClearScore product placement on Hollyoaks is insane. Ste was doing the most this week.' Another added: 'Not ANOTHER ClearScore ad.' According to the report, Channel 4 has confirmed that the references were made in relation to a deal with the company, which was separate from their overall sponsorship. The broadcaster also stated that the references were 'editorially justified' within the programme, and that 'part of the sponsorship and product placement agreements, potential integrations into existing storylines were proposed to ClearScore by the programme editorial team, in consultation with the programme compliance team.' They added: 'ClearScore had no editorial input into the storyline of the programme.' Their response went on to claim that as Ste was trying to rebuild his life after the death of his husband James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) and over a year spent in a coma, he was looking for ways to support his family. Ofcom concluded their report by saying that the scene was a clear 'demonstration' into how to use the app, rather than an off the cuff reference. More Trending In response to the outcome, a Channel 4 spokesperson said: 'We acknowledge Ofcom's decision and will review its findings carefully. 'Our compliance responsibilities are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to engage with Ofcom and our partners to ensure our content remains compliant.' Hollyoaks confirms major Joel twist that turns everything on its head
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday's (July 16) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm. There's nothing like a great big twist right before a soap wedding to throw everything on its head – and that's exactly what Hollyoaks served up during its last episode of the week. With groom-to-be / serial killer Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) all set to wed John Paul McQueen (James Sutton), he confided in Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) about how happy he is in life right now. In fact, he reckons he's never been happier. Robbie, who is being held captive by the murderer at the allotment, listened intently as Jez explained the catalyst in what led to such overwhelming joy. 'None of this would have happened,' he said. 'I wouldn't be in the happiest place I've ever been in my life if I hadn't killed Tommy and blamed Joel for it'. Talk about a twist . To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The Tommy that Jez is referring to is, of course, Tommy Odenkirk (Brandon Fellows), the fake therapist who recorded his murderous confessions and used them to blackmail him. Tommy was murdered earlier this year, with Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) – who was led by Tommy to believe that he'd killed someone – convinced that he was to blame. Joel confessed to the police and was subsequently jailed. But it turns out that Joel is actually innocent – it was Jez who committed the crime, framing Joel for it. Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin), meanwhile, made it quite clear that she doesn't want Joel in her unborn baby's life due to the fact he's killed someone. If only she knew! More Trending And on the subject of shock twists, that wasn't the only one in store for fans during the episode in question, with Bobby Costello (Zak Sutcliffe) learning from Martha (Sherrie Hewson) that Jez was the one who murdered his social worker. With Jez believing that all his loose ends have been tied up ahead of tying the knot, the question is: will the truth of his heinous crimes come spilling out via Bobby? And will Joel get justice? The two men prepare to exchange vows in an action-packed batch of episodes but with secrets and lies pretty much everywhere, the question remains as to whether or not they will actually say 'I do'. Will Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) – who has been having a secret affair with Jez – find it difficult to keep quiet? Or will Jez's killer secrets come to light? Elsewhere, Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) confesses his feelings to Diane (Alex Fletcher), with the much-loved couple deciding to give things another go. Lib relays the tragic news to Sienna and Martha. John Paul, meanwhile, grows suspicious of Jez and, fearing that he doesn't really know him at all, he tells his fiancé that he's unsure about whether or not he truly loves him. As you can imagine, such a statement doesn't go down too well with Jez, who lashes out, smashing a mirror. Elsewhere, Tony arranges to meet with Mercedes and shares his hopes of reuniting with Diane. Later, he and ex-wife Di move back into The Dog, while Jack is delighted at the prospect of being asked back behind the bar ahead of the show's signature pub re-opening. The big wedding day arrives and Jez is intent on tying up some loose ends before he and John Paul wed. That is, if he and John Paul wed as the killer's fiancé is still having cold feet. The McQueens are on hand to offer the teacher some support as he weighs up whether or not Jez is the man for him. Jez tracks him down and makes one more heartfelt plea, begging JP to give him another chance. As the ceremony gets underway and the guests gather, Jez is delighted to see John Paul arrive at the altar. The question is: will vows be exchanged? With the subject of love in the air, Tony musters up the courage to ask Diane to give him another shot. More Trending With the kids to consider, Di reckons they should take things slow but it's looking like it's all systems go for a new chapter for The Dog's landlady and landlord as the soulmates plan a picnic. The fallout from the wedding day continues with high emotions – and danger lurks nearby. Liberty, meanwhile, pays a visit to see Jez at the allotment but is their affair over for good? And elsewhere, Tony makes a life-changing detour amid a vendetta.
