Mizoram To Start Biometric Enrolment Drive For Displaced Foreign Nationals
Mizoram: The Mizoram government has announced that it will initiate the biometric enrolment process for displaced persons from Myanmar and Bangladeshi nationals who are taking shelter in Mizoram. According to officials, the enrollment drive is set to begin this month, starting at Ramthar Camp and expanding to eight other camps. A training session on the 'Foreigners Identification Portal & Biometric Enrolment' for displaced persons from Myanmar and Bangladeshi nationals was held on July 18 at the Police Computer Training Centre, SP Office, Lunglei District. The training was organised by the District Level Committee on Myanmar & Bangladesh Refugees (DLCMBR), aimed at equipping officials for the proper identification and enrolment of displaced persons. The session was chaired by Sub-Deputy Commissioner Lalnunchhani Hnamte. Additional SP of Lunglei district, K Beihmotaosa, briefed on steps taken so far, including the formation of 10 Biometric Enrolment Teams and equipment requisition from the Home Department. A total of 27 team members were trained by Master Trainers CZ Lalnilianpuia and C Lalremruata through practical and interactive sessions. According to the officials of the State Home Department, more than 30,000 displaced Myanmar nationals are presently staying in 11 districts of Mizoram. Apart from Myanmar nationals, more than 2,300 Bangladeshi nationals are staying in Mizoram. On July 14, Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi and discussed several key issues concerning the development of Mizoram. Mizoram is training officials to gather biometric data of Myanmar and Bangladeshi refugees. This process will begin this month. The Home Department has allocated funds for this. Remove Ads The Mizoram government is providing training to district-level officials to collect biometrics and biographic data of Myanmar and Bangladeshi refugees and the process of recording this would start from this month, a home department official has of district-level officials on the ' Foreigners Identification Portal and Biometric Enrolment' for displaced persons from Myanmar and Bangladeshi nationals are almost completed in all 11 districts of Mizoram. According to the Mizoram Home Department official, Rs 38 lakh has been earmarked for the exercise, and the expenditure would be borne by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The MHA had earlier asked both the Manipur and Mizoram governments to capture biographic and biometric details of "illegal migrants" in the two states and complete the process at the a military coup in Myanmar in February 2021, there were around 35,000 refugees in Mizoram. Another 5,000 Myanmar refugees also took shelter in Manipur. The Manipur government has almost collected the biometric and demographic data of the refugees staying in the state. Over 2,370 Bangladeshi Bawm community tribals from Chittagong Hill Tracts are also staying in Mizoram for over two years after they fled their country due to ethnic troubles after the Bangladesh Army launched a crackdown on tribals. Over 4,650 people, including women and children, from Myanmar earlier this month fled to Mizoram following a series of armed clashes.

Biometrics of displaced people of Myanmar, Bangladesh living in Mizoram to be recorded
The biometrics of displaced people from Myanmar and Bangladesh taking shelter in Mizoram will be recorded, officials said on Saturday (July 19, 2025). Training of officers is being held across the state for the exercise, which is expected to begin at the end of July, they said. Recording of biometric and demographic details will be conducted online, using the foreigners' identification portal, they said. However, offline mode may also be used as many of these displaced people live in rural areas where there is poor internet connectivity, they added. In a statement, the government said training on the 'Foreigners Identification Portal and Biometric Enrolment' for displaced persons from Myanmar and Bangladesh was held on Friday (July 18, 2025) in Lunglei. The session organised by the Lunglei District Level Committee on Myanmar & Bangladesh Refugees (DLCMBR) aimed to sensitise and equip officers for proper identification and enrollment of displaced people, it said. Formation of 10 biometric enrolment teams Lunglei's Additional SP K Beihmotaosa briefed the officers on steps taken so far, including the formation of 10 biometric enrolment teams and equipment requisition from the Home Department. The enrollment drive is set to begin this month, starting with Ramthar Camp and expanding to eight other camps in the district, it said. A total of 27 team members were trained by master trainers through practical and interactive sessions during the event, the statement said. Officials said that similar trainings are being held in other districts as well. According to the Home Department, more than 32,000 Myanmar nationals are presently staying in Mizoram's 11 districts. The number, however, keeps changing almost on a daily basis as some of them have a habit of going to their country and coming back to Mizoram, officials said. The Home Department also said that 2,371 Bangladeshi nationals from the Chittagong Hill Tracts are staying in the state. In addition, more than 7,000 Zo ethnic people from Manipur, displaced by ethnic violence, have taken shelter in the state. The Myanmar nationals, mostly from Chin state, fled to Mizoram following a military coup in the neighbouring country in February 2021, while the asylum seekers from Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts came to the state after a military offensive against an ethnic insurgent group in 2022. The Chins in Myanmar, the Bawm tribe of Bangladesh and the Kuki-zo people from Manipur share close ethnic ties with the Mizos.

Govt proposes Rs 200 ceiling on cinema hall tickets
Bengaluru: The government has proposed to put a ceiling of Rs 200 on cinema hall tickets including multiplexes for all language films. A draft notification was issued on Tuesday. 'Provided that the cost of the ticket of each show in all theatres of the state including multiplexes for all language films shall not exceed Rs 200 inclusive of entertainment tax,' it. Any objection and suggestion which may be received by the state government from any person with respect to the said draft within 15 days will be taken into consideration, the notification said. Objections and suggestions should be addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department, Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru-560001.

Sustainable peace solution in terrorism-prone areas: KP govt to take political parties into confidence, formulate strategy
PESHAWAR: The 35th meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet was held here on Friday, with Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur in the chair. Cabinet members, Additional Chief Secretaries, the Senior Member Board of Revenue, Administrative Secretaries, and the Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the meeting. Barrister Dr Muhammad Ali Saif, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information & Public Relations, while explaining the details of the decisions taken in the Cabinet meeting, said that Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur announced that an All Parties Conference would be convened next week to take all political parties into confidence and formulate a joint strategy for a sustainable peace solution in terrorism-prone areas. The Chief Minister stated that the restoration of peace in District Kurram is the result of the government's sincere efforts and that peace in other areas can also be achieved through consultations with local jirgas and tribal elders, Barrister Dr Saif said. The Advisor further informed that the meeting also discussed proposed reforms to 3MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) law. It was decided that the implementation of this law would be subject to prior approval from the Home Department to prevent its misuse. The Chief Minister remarked that the 3MPO is a law similar to the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), which is often misused. Speaking on incidents of natural disasters across the country, the Chief Minister emphasized that such tragedies should not be politicized and reaffirmed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is always ready to assist other provinces in times of need, he added. Barrister Dr Saif said that the Cabinet approved financial assistance of Rs5 million each for the families of martyrs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who lost their lives due to Indian aggression. Additionally Rs10 million in compensation was approved for the family of Maulana Khanzeb Shaheed, who was martyred in a terrorist attack. Explaining other important decisions of the Cabinet meeting, he said that the Cabinet approved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture Income Tax Rules, 2025, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Audit Rules, 2025, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection (Sealing or Seizing) Rules, 2025. The Cabinet formed a cabinet committee on the agenda item related to the removal of the death penalty provision from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 2019. The Cabinet Committee will submit its recommendations to the Cabinet. The Cabinet approved financial assistance totaling Rs48.1 million for four individuals - Rozina, Anas Khan, Muhammad Aman, and Muhammad Azlan - to help cover the cost of high-expense treatments for acute medical conditions that were otherwise beyond their financial means. The Cabinet approved the handing over of Dir Model School Dodba for the establishment of a campus of Khyber Medical University's Institute of Health Sciences in District Dir Upper, so that the current academic session could begin at the building. The Cabinet also approved land acquisition, at a total cost of Rs38.69 million, through private negotiations for the supply of Swat River surface water to Mingora via gravity flow. The Cabinet approved a cost enhancement from Rs318.501 million to Rs375.210 million for the project titled Strengthening Health Management Information System / District Health Information System in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Phase-II). It also approved a series of important administrative measures, including the appointment of members to the Board of Governors of the Paraplegic Center, and the posting and transfer of the Managing Director of the Health Foundation. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the appointment of five members to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission. Under the Provincial Action Plan, the Cabinet approved the installation of RFID systems and machine-readable number plates on already-profiled NCP vehicles in the province. The Cabinet also decided to limit the measure strictly to profiling of NCP vehicles, with no tax collection involved, he explained. He said that requests for relaxation of the ban and procurement of vehicles for various departments were placed before the Cabinet.
