REUTERS/Carlin Stiehl/File Photo LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics on Monday released the first look at the Olympic competition schedule, highlighting a historic reshuffling of key events and the most ambitious sports lineup in Games history. The announcement comes as the city marks three years to go until the Opening Ceremony and celebrates a major legacy milestone: more than one million enrolments in the PlayLA youth sports programme. For the first time in nearly three decades, the Summer Olympics will return to the United States, with Los Angeles hosting for the third time after 1932 and 1984. The 2028 Games are set to feature 844 ticketed events designed to maximize both domestic and international viewership. Organizers revealed that the Opening Ceremony will take place on July 14, 2028, at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT), split between the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for July 30 at the Coliseum. In a notable departure from tradition, the LA28 schedule swaps the usual order of athletics and swimming competitions. Track and field events will open the Games in the first week, with swimming moving to the second week, culminating in its finale on the penultimate day at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The first Olympic champion of LA28 will be crowned at Venice Beach in the triathlon event, while the marathon will close out athletics on the final weekend. Day 15 is expected to be the busiest for medal events, with 16 team sport finals and 19 individual sport finals taking place. "The Olympic competition schedulehas been meticulously developed to ensure the world's best athletes can compete in LA," LA28 CEOReynold Hoover said in a statement. "We are energized by today's milestones and remain focused on the work aheadas the Road to 2028continues." Organizers said the schedule will continue to be refined, with a more detailed breakdown to be released later this year. "When the world comes here for these Games, we will highlight every neighbourhood as we host a Games for all and work to ensure it leaves a monumental legacy," LA Mayor Karen Bass said. Meanwhile, Hoover joined city officials on Monday at an event at the Coliseum to celebrate PlayLA surpassing one million programme enrolments. The initiative, backed by up to $160 million in investment from LA28, the city's Recreation and Parks Department, and the IOC, provides affordable and inclusive sports programming for children aged 3-17 across more than 40 Olympic and adaptive sports. Everything Colorado football fans need to know about the 2025 TCU Horned Frogs
There's no doubt that every Colorado football fan remembers where they were the last time the Buffaloes played in Fort Worth, Texas. Then, newly hired head coach Deion Sanders led his team, featuring new additions Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, into TCU's house and escaped with an improbable victory. The game ignited a media frenzy around Colorado, vaulting the team into must-see television every single week. It's been a long two years since that game, and much has changed about the two programs. Shedeur and Hunter are now NFL players, while TCU has completely rebuilt its roster back into a team that can contend for a Big 12 title. These two new-look programs meet each other in Amon G. Carter Stadium in week six of the 2025 season. Fresh off a contest with BYU, Colorado will be heading into a true hostile environment for the first time all season. Meanwhile, the Horned Frogs will be fresh off a bout with the defending conference champions, Arizona State, revealing how well they can keep pace with the top of the conference. Opponent Previews: Georgia Tech, Delaware, Houston, Wyoming, BYU 2024 in review TCU is coming off a surface-level impressive 2024 season, with nine wins and a bowl victory to its name. A closer look at their schedule reveals that the Horned Frogs weren't particularly impressive last season. They didn't face a single ranked opponent and suffered a blowout loss to the eventual No. 12 seed in the CFP and their rival, SMU. They were the definition of a slow-starting team, losing three of their four losses in the first half of the season. TCU was often in many of their games, playing in seven one-score games, many of which went in their favor, a mark that will be hard to repeat. The brightest spot of 2024 was, by far, the emergence of quarterback Josh Hoover, who grew into his role at the helm of Sonny Dykes' air raid offense. The Horned Frogs built momentum at the end of 2024, which they'll need to carry into 2025 if they want to contend for the conference title. Head coach profile The Horned Frogs' headman has been coaching football at TCU for four seasons, after he came over from SMU. Dykes' tenure has been a rollercoaster for the program, with its peak being their first victory in the College Football Playoff and an unexpected appearance in the national championship game in 2022. However, the year following saw the Horned Frogs still hurting from their shellacking in the title game at the hands of Georgia, ultimately going 5-7. Dykes has proven capable of building and leading contenders, but not consistently. Top offensive player Entering his third season as the quarterback for the Horned Frogs, Hoover showed an impressive jump in his second season. Despite throwing the ball over 470 times, Hoover completed 66% of his passes for almost 4,000 yards, 27 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. Hoover is a leader in the Horned Frog locker room, reportedly turning down a large offer from Tennessee to enter the transfer portal. TCU is losing Hoover's top three targets from last season, Savion Williams, J.P. Richardson and Jack Bech to the NFL, so more will be on his shoulders heading into this season. Top defensive player A preseason All-Big 12 selection, Bud Clark might be the Horned Frog with the most hype, outside of Hoover, heading into 2025. Entering his final collegiate season, Clark has been a staple of consistent, high-quality play in TCU's secondary. For the last three seasons, Clark has totaled three or more interceptions and never landed below the 30 total tackle mark. Coming off a fantastic season last year, the Buffaloes will have to scheme around No. 21 in this matchup. 2025 schedule Way-too-early Colorado matchup preview Both of these teams enter with significant question marks on the offensive side of the ball. Colorado's quest to find replacements for Shedeur and Hunter will most likely not be over by this point in the season, and that could cause some huge stumbles for the Buffaloes. The Horned Frogs are replacing virtually their entire offensive skill group, and there are likely to be huge bumps in the road. Ultimately, the Horned Frogs should get the better of the Buffaloes in a tight contest. While both teams have questions, Hoover's play could elevate a lacking skill group over the hump, mainly if Colorado's pass rush can't produce as effectively as it did last season. If Kaidon Salter impresses early on, I might have to revisit this game, but for now, TCU strikes me as a team with fewer questions to answer. Colleen Hoover's "Verity" Release Date Delayed
Yara Sameh Colleen Hoover fans will have to wait until a bit later in 2026 to watch the feature adaptation of the author's best-selling thriller novel " Verity ". Amazon MGM Studios has set director Michael Showalter's film for wide theatrical release on October 2, 2026, after having previously dated the project for May 15, 2026. Anne Hathaway leads a cast that also includes Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva, and Brady Wagner. Director Alejandro Iñárritu's untitled Warner Bros. movie starring Tom Cruise is also set for release on October 2, 2026. Nick Antosca wrote the Verity script following the previous work of scribes Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna and the team of Will Honley and April Maguire. Producers include Hathaway, Hoover, Showalter, Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, and Jordana Mollick. "Verity" centers on struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), who is hired by Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to complete the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), after she suffers a mysterious accident. Lowen soon learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the family's past. Hoover's works are hot properties in Hollywood following the success of last summer's Sony hit "It Ends With Us", which adapted the author's novel with stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar. Hoover self-published "Verity" in 2018 before Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021, and the book went on to become a New York Times bestseller. Showalter previously directed Hathaway in 2024's Amazon MGM Studios feature "The Idea of You", which co-starred Nicholas Galitzine and adapted Robinne Lee's novel of the same name. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Who loves cats more than North Canton? Turns out, not many places 🐈
North Canton is known for being the birthplace of Hoover vacuums. It's also home to Diebold Nixdorf, a worldwide maker of ATMs. But PetSmart says the Stark County community also should be known for ... cats. The pet supply retailer on July 11 released a list of the top 25 cat-loving cities in the U.S. and North Canton is ranked No. 12. The rankings are based on PetSmart Charities cat adoptions and sales of cat pampering products bought at PetSmart stores, the company said. North Canton is the only Ohio city to make the list. "We're seeing a remarkable surge in cat enthusiasm, and our top cat-loving cities index reflects this trend," Matt Byrnes, senior vice president of merchandising, said in a prepared statement. Cats have been adopted at a higher rate than dogs in recent years, according to PetSmart. "We've been following this trend as cat adoptions outpace dog adoptions — and it's fair to say cats are having a moment," Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities, said in a prepared statement. "This index shows us that cat parenting is more universal than you might think, and those old stereotypes no longer apply. More people than ever are enjoying the playful nature of cat companionship. Cats can thrive in smaller living spaces, and their independence often makes them incredibly appealing to pet parents who can't get out for regular walks." The American Veterinary Medical Association last year found that dogs were more commonly found in U.S. households than cats, with 59.8 million U.S. households owning dogs and 42.2 million households owning cats. There were 89.7 million total pet dogs in the U.S. that year and 73.8 million pet cats, according to the association. Cat owners were slightly more likely to have multiple cats, with an average of 1.8 cats per household, whereas dog owners had an average of 1.5 dogs per household. To commemorate its Charities National Adoption Week, which runs from July 21-27, PetSmart is offering new pet parents who adopt within the week a chance to claim "Very Important Pet Parent" status. "VIPP (Very Important Pet Parent) status (is) the highest tier and level of savings for PetSmart Treats Rewards loyalty members," the company said in a prepared statement. "PetSmart is also making it easier than ever for pet parents to welcome adopted cats into their homes celebrating Anything for Cats Month throughout July, featuring the biggest deals of the year across cat products and services." Here's the full list of the top 25 cat-loving cities: Lexington, Kentucky Green Bay, Wisconsin Mount Juliet, Tennessee Spokane, Washington Falls Church, Virginia New York City Clarksville, Tennessee Fort Collins, Colorado Alhambra, California Daly City, California Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania North Canton Plattsburgh, New York Sioux City, Iowa Kennesaw, Georgia San Juan Capistrano, California Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania Los Angeles Oviedo, Florida Flagstaff, Arizona Commerce Township, Michigan Springfield, Illinois Evansville, Indiana Johnson City, Tennessee Kensington, Maryland This article originally appeared on The Repository: PetSmart ranks the top 25 cat-loving cities in America

Verity sets new May 2026 release at Amazon MGM
Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that Verity, its adaptation of Colleen Hoover's psychological thriller, will release in theaters on May 15, 2026. The film stars Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford, a bestselling author who becomes incapacitated following a mysterious accident. Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer brought in to complete Verity's work, only to uncover a hidden manuscript filled with disturbing revelations. Directed by Michael Showalter, the film also features Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie, and Michael Abbott Jr. The screenplay is by Nick Antosca, with production led by Showalter, Hathaway, and Hoover herself. Filming wrapped earlier this year in New York. Verity is the latest in a wave of Hoover adaptations, following It Ends With Us and several additional titles in development. By setting a May 2026 date, Amazon MGM is positioning Verity for a spring launch that capitalizes on both the thriller genre's audience and Hoover's expansive fanbase. The project reunites Hathaway and Showalter, who previously collaborated on The Idea of You. As anticipation builds, the release marks a high-profile literary adaptation for Amazon's growing theatrical slate.
