Laguna Beach's Nyjah Huston, decorated skateboarder, honored by hometown
Nyjah Huston stopped short of skating up to the podium, but the decorated skateboarder did get things rolling when he was recognized by his hometown on Tuesday. A Laguna Beach resident, Huston, 30, was honored by proclamation at the start of the City Council meeting. For several moments, the crowd filled the council chambers with applause for Huston, who became Laguna Beach's first Olympic medalist in skateboarding when he took home a bronze medal in men's street skateboarding in Paris last year. Huston began riding a board at age 5 and turned pro by the time he reached 11 in what has become a highly successful career as a contest skateboarder. He holds 15 X Games gold medals, as well as six Street League Super Crown World Championship titles. 'He now prepares as a leading American hopeful for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with the overwhelming support from the Laguna Beach community,' Mayor Alex Rounaghi said. 'We amended our flag policy, so we'll be able to fly the Olympic flag when that's happening.' When he approached the podium, Huston presented Rounaghi with a signed board with graphics from his brand, Disorder Skateboards. Huston was also recognized for his influence on skate culture and for his social impact initiative as a co-founder of the Let it Flow Foundation, which aims to provide clean water to communities in need globally. In June, Huston collected his 24th and 25th medals at the X Games, earning silver medals in the men's skateboard street and men's skateboard street best trick events in Salt Lake City. Laguna Beach leaned into skate culture in its own way with the installation of temporary skate ramps at the Community and Recreation Center on South Coast Highway in early 2024. The city facility directory states that the ramps remain open for public use from noon to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Nyjah Huston of Laguna Beach nabs two silver medals at X Games
Nyjah Huston, regarded as the best street skater of all time, added to his X Games medal collection over the weekend in Salt Lake City. Huston, a 30-year-old Laguna Beach resident, earned silver medals in both the men's skateboard street and men's skateboard street best trick categories. They were his 24th and 25th X Games medals overall, and he now sits alone in second place in the X Games record books with that total. Bob Burnquist has the most, with 30. Huston's first-run score of 93.00 led the men's skateboard street competition, before Japan's Yuto Horigome swiped the title with a 95.33 score in his third and final run. Filipe Mota of Brazil won gold in men's skateboard street trick, followed by Huston. Huston was also announced as a founding athlete of the X Games League, which will start in summer 2026 with a team-based, seasonal league format. Ryan Sheckler and Ryan Williams are the other founding athletes. Skateboarding and BMX bike racing will headline the inaugural Summer X Games League. 'I'm stoked to compete in my 20th year of X Games as a founder athlete of X Games League,' Huston said in a statement. 'The new format gives sponsors and media more opportunities to tell the awesome stories of our athletes that often get overlooked compared to mainstream sports. I'm hyped to be part of something that keeps the competition going and builds more excitement for the fans.'

Walt Disney helped build a mini railroad that comes with this CA house for sale
A charming estate with major Hollywood ties has landed on the market in Tarzana, California. The property spans 17,181 square feet and has multiple structures, including a 12,170-square-foot primary home. While the residence is jaw-dropping, its connection with two of the most famous names to come out of the Golden Era of Tinseltown is one of its main appeals. Walt Disney and Academy Award-winning director John Huston are both linked to the property. The home was designed for Huston, who directed such films as 'The African Queen,' 'Key Largo,' 'Annie' and 'The Maltese Falcon,' but when it exchanged hands, it got even more magical. 'The estate at 4535 Vanalden Ave. was designed as a grand ranch that was even once visited by friend Frank Lloyd Wright. After Huston's ownership, the property was acquired in 1959 by Gordon and Holly McClean, who became stewards of its unique character for over 20 years,' a news release about the estate says. 'They were close friends of Walt Disney who helped build the miniature railroad complete with a 240-foot tunnel, elevated trestles, landscaped tracks, a working station with turntable, and dual tracks that can run steam, electric, and propane-powered engines.' The house became a hot spot for train enthusiasts and people who just wanted to take a ride on the famous mini-train. Other features of the home, per the listing and release, include: Barn with one bedroom and two bathroomsGuest cottageTrain stationStorage rooms 'Additional highlights include a pool that goes beneath the home, seven ponds, a tennis court, dog run, garden, children's play area, and a reimagined barn for entertaining complete with original reclaimed wood under the bar,' the release says. The listing is held by David Kramer with Compass and Paul Czako with Gussman Czako Estates. Tarzana is about a 20-mile drive northwest from Los Angeles.

Laguna Beach's Nyjah Huston returns to skate as X Games celebrates 30 years
A numbers game might favor Nyjah Huston at this weekend's X Games. The action sports showcase turns 30 years old this year. Huston, the highly decorated skateboarder, is also 30. He celebrated his golden birthday (when the date of one's birth coincides with one's age) on Nov. 30. 'It's the 30th anniversary, is it really?' Huston said Tuesday morning during an informal press conference with other Monster Energy athletes Kevin Peraza, Jackson Strong and Ryan Williams, held on Zoom. 'Damn, that's sick. No one told me that, but 30 is my number and it's my year.' Huston, who lives in Laguna Beach, won't mind if his golden birthday was a prelude to more gold at the X Games. He's going for it this weekend in Salt Lake City at the contest, which starts on Friday and wraps up Sunday. He has 15 X Games gold medals since his debut, tying him with Shaun White of snowboard and skateboarding fame for the second-most all time. BMX bike rider Garrett Reynolds has the most, with 16 golds. 'I grew up watching X Games,' Huston said. 'It's probably the first contest I ever remember watching, watching guys like [Tony] Hawk, Bob Burnquist, PRod [Paul Rodriguez], people I still look up to, to this day. To be up there in that most-medals-ever conversation is special. But I think my favorite part about it is that I don't feel like I'm done yet, and I feel like I've still got a decent amount more in me.' Huston earned an Olympic bronze medal last summer in Paris in the men's street event. At 30, he definitely is a veteran in the sport, widely considered the best skateboard street competitor of all time. In May, he won his 27th Street League Skateboarding title in Miami, and Huston is the reigning SLS Super Crown World Champion. The sport itself still excites him as much as ever. 'Bro, did you watch the street contest out there in Osaka?' he asked his fellow athletes with amazement during Tuesday's news conference. 'I don't know if you guys saw it. I just watched it a couple of days ago, and I was like, what the hell. Those were the craziest runs I've ever seen. That's insane. That's what's so cool about skating. Even aside from all of the contests, we love being out in the streets and just challenging ourselves.' X Games heads to Salt Lake City for the first time this weekend. Though it's been updated since then, Huston said he skated in a street league on the same course a few years back. He'll take whatever slight advantages he can get. Not that he usually needs them. '[The X Games gold medal record] is definitely a little extra incentive and motivation,' he said. 'I mean, I'm still such a competitive dude. It's hard to let that side of me go. I've always been so competitive since I was a little toddler. As soon as I'm out there on the course, I'm doing what it takes to win. It would be great to get a couple of more [golds].'

Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 15 - Geoff Huston (1985-86)
The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history. Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the 20th of 27 players who wore the No. 15 jersey for the Warriors. That player would be Golden State guard alum Geoff Huston. After ending his college career at Texas Tech, Huston was picked up with the 50th overall selection of the 1979 NBA draft by the New York Knicks. The Brooklyn, New York native would play the first season of his pro career with the Knicks, and also played for the Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers before he signed with the Dubs in 1985. His stay with the team would span a single season, ending when he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in 1986. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
