Illegal parking on newly built Autobahn Road causes daily gridlock
Illegal parking has turned the newly built section of Hyderabad's busiest Autobahn Road into a traffic nightmare, with gridlock now a daily routine due to poor parking arrangements. The newly reconstructed 2.2 km stretch from Hero Chowk (also known as Guddu Chowk) to Latifabad Unit No. 7 has once again seen the emergence of illegal parking stands. Double parking outside multinational franchises, commercial plazas, and shops, along with vehicle repairs taking place on the roadside workshops, have severely disrupted the traffic flow. During evening and night hours, long queues of vehicles cause hours-long traffic jams, leaving commuters stranded. Heated arguments among drivers have also been reported. At several spots, parking fees of up to Rs50 per vehicle are allegedly being collected illegally, reportedly with the connivance of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials. The newly decorated road has also attracted families who stop to take pictures and selfies, further affecting traffic movement. According to a statement issued by the Sindh Information Department, a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Zainul Abideen Memon - following directives from Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Haider Shah - reviewed traffic and encroachment issues on Autobahn Road. SSP Hyderabad Adeel Hussain Chandio, SP Traffic, TMC officials, and traffic wardens were present. It was decided that encroachment police, district police constables, traffic wardens, and HMC staff would be deployed to clear the road and maintain traffic flow. CCTV cameras will be installed for monitoring, while speed limit boards and speed cameras will also be introduced. The meeting further approved strict action, including fines, against traffic violations such as wrong-side driving to ensure smooth traffic flow and safe commuting for citizens.

"This is callous, unconstitutional": Owaisi slams Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's banning meat shops on Independence Day 2025
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for ordering the closure of meat shops and slaughterhouses on Independence Day. Questioning the logic behind the meat ban and celebrating Independence Day , he said the order violates people's right to liberty, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition, and religion. "Many municipal corporations across India seemed to have ordered that slaughterhouses and meat shops should be closed on 15th August. Unfortunately, @GHMCOnline has also made a similar order," Owaisi said in a post on X. What's the connection between eating meat and celebrating Independence Day? 99% of Telangana's people eat meat. These meat bans violate people's right to liberty, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition & religion," he said. Owaisi's remarks came as several municipalities have issued similar directives regarding the closure of meat shops and slaughterhouses during upcoming festivals. Live Events On Tuesday, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra announced a ban on the slaughter of animals and the sale of meat within city limits on August 15 and 20. The closure on August 15 coincides with Gokul Ashtami , a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, while August 20 marks the beginning of 'Paryushan Parva,' a key Jain festival observed with fasting and prayers. The civic body warned of strict action against violations. This follows a similar order by the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Thane district near Mumbai, which mandated the closure of meat shops on August 15. The Malegaon Municipal Corporation has issued a similar directive.

Unauthorised cattle markets snarl traffic, turn Hyd into a cesspool
With Eidul Azha just around the corner, the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) and its affiliated Town Municipal Corporations have yet to designate or establish any official cattle markets in the second largest urban centre of Sindh. The absence of designated sites has led to the unregulated sale of sacrificial animals at multiple locations in Hyderabad, severely disrupting traffic flow, deteriorating sanitation conditions, and raising safety concerns. In the absence of official oversight, informal cattle markets have popped up on vacant plots and along busy roadsides in densely populated areas, including Latifabad and Phuleli. Vendors have set up temporary markets at major intersections such as Barah-e-Rabiul Awwal Chowk to Bismillah City, Siddiq Plaza Chowk, Asma-e-Hasna Chowk, Khuda Hafiz Board Chowk, Chungi Naka Chowk, Auto Bhan Road, Goods Naka Road, Pakka Qila Charai, Guru Nagar Chowk, and Wapda Town. Similar activity has been reported along the road from City Gate to Halla Naka Chowk, where evening gatherings for animal sales have become commonplace. Due to extreme heat, most animal trading is taking place during evening and nighttime hours. While serious buyers remain relatively few at this stage, the sites continue to draw large crowds of onlookers. The influx of animals and people at already congested junctions has worsened traffic conditions and led to a rise in minor road accidents. Agitated by vehicular noise and the blaring of horns, some animals have reportedly panicked, causing dangerous situations for both pedestrians and drivers. Adding to the urban strain is the worsening sanitation situation. Since the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board assumed responsibility for waste collection in Hyderabad, complaints about irregular and inadequate services have increased. The unregulated sale of cattle has further exacerbated the problem. Animal fodder, dung, and general waste have piled up at various makeshift markets, emitting foul odors and posing a serious public health hazard. Shopkeepers and residents near these unauthorised sites have expressed growing frustration over the unsanitary conditions. The issue was officially raised on May 7 during a session of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation meeting held at the Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium of the Sindh Museum. UC Chairman Gadu Mari of the PPP spoke about the specific problems caused by illegal cattle markets at Guru Nagar Chowk and Shahbaz Cinema Road, particularly the inconvenience to women and local residents.
