IMAX Corporation (IMAX): A Bull Case Theory
We came across a bullish thesis on IMAX Corporation on Raging Bull Investments's Substack. In this article, we will summarize the bulls' thesis on IMAX. IMAX Corporation's share was trading at $27.96 as of June 30th. IMAX's trailing and forward P/E were 60.78 and 26.88 respectively according to Yahoo Finance. An audience of moviegoers inside a theatre, savoring the latest cinematic experience. IMAX Corp. stands out as the premier player in the ongoing 'premiumization' trend reshaping the cinema industry, driven by audience demand for elevated theatrical experiences and higher per-patron spend. The company's core strength lies in its dual business model: remastering films into the proprietary IMAX format, and providing or leasing enhanced theatre systems globally. In exchange for converting films into IMAX format, the company earns ~11% of box office revenues from studios. On the systems side, IMAX monetizes its offerings via sale, lease, or increasingly popular revenue-sharing models, in which it provides the system and installation at its own cost and earns ~7% of box office revenue from exhibitors. With just under 1% of global screens, IMAX commands 3.5% of the global box office—a market share that has grown over 40% since 2018. This reflects both strong demand and the format's success in drawing premium-paying audiences. IMAX has grown its global system base from 863 in 2012 to 1,738 today across 89 countries, with over 350 systems in the backlog and significant runway remaining. Studios are increasingly releasing tentpole films in IMAX, and directors are now shooting directly with IMAX cameras to leverage its superior quality and revenue potential—leading to higher take rates for IMAX. With a robust moat built on proprietary technology, brand strength, and high switching costs for exhibitors, IMAX is uniquely positioned in the PLF market. Its royalty-like business model, operating leverage, and alignment with studios and exhibitors make it a compelling investment opportunity. Previously we covered a bullish thesis on The Marcus Corporation by Waterboy Investing in October 2024, which highlighted the company's strong cinema and hotel segments, along with valuable real estate holdings. The company's stock price has appreciated by approximately 9% since our coverage. This is because the hotel segment grew steadily. Raging Bull Investments shares a similar view but emphasizes IMAX's premium format leadership. IMAX isn't on our list of the 30 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. New SUPERMAN Behind the Scenes Featurette Focuses on IMAX — GeekTyrant
IMAX has released a behind the scenes featurette for James Gunn's Superman , and it focuses on the film being presented in IMAX, even though the movie was not shot using IMAX cameras. Regardless, the are still labeling it as "Filmed for IMAX" in all the marketing. This basically means the that movie was prepared for an IMAX release in post-produciton process, so it can be screened on IMAX screens. The superhero film explores Clark Kent / Superman's (David Corenswet) journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive human family in Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views this as old-fashioned. The cast of Superman also includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, Skyler Gisondo as Clark's best pal, Jimmy Olsen; Wendell Pierce as The Daily Planet's Perry White; Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl; Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl; and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. It also stars Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific; Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampan as Eve Teschmacher; Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason, aka Metamorphosis; Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.; Neva Howell as Martha Kent; and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent. The movie was directed by James Gunn and is in theaters now.

Want to be Seated for ‘The Odyssey?' Some Showtimes Are Out Over a Year in Advance
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey opens in theaters one year from this Thursday—on July 17, 2026—and something big might be coming to celebrate. Showtimes (just showtimes, not a way to actually buy tickets) for select IMAX 70mm screenings of the film have begun to show up on ticketing websites, which is odd because a) It's over a year in advance, b) Nolan is still making the movie, which means c) there isn't a locked-in runtime yet. And yet, if you head over to a site like Fandango, there they are. Showtimes. Sitting there. Staring at you. Teasing that you might have to buy tickets a year in advance if you want to see this movie in IMAX 70mm on opening weekend, which would be completely unprecedented. (In some cases, showtimes can be viewed on an app and not a browser, but they're there. Here's a screenshot.)So what's the deal? io9 reached out to Universal, Fandango, and IMAX for any comment or clarification on this and has yet to hear back as of publication. We'll update this post if, or when, we hear back. But it is worth noting that Universal did release that teaser trailer for the film in theaters over a year in advance. And with that one-year countdown looming on the 17th, you can imagine that might mean the trailer makes it online, and tickets will go on sale for the film's preferred format as the start of a mega media blitz. That's because, in case you missed it, The Odyssey is doing something no film has done before. It's the first feature-length Hollywood production to be entirely filmed with IMAX 70mm cameras. It's a format that fans can only see in a handful of theaters at the moment, with more currently under construction with the plan to be open in time for The Odyssey. That means everyone expects demand to see the film in the format to be completely insane, to the point where maybe it warrants starting to sell tickets a year in advance, even without a defined runtime. But movie tickets a year in advance? Usually a month, maybe two or three, is the max for something really, really big. But a year? With the film not even close to finished? If anyone can do it, it's Christopher Nolan. Hopefully we learn more in the coming days, but if you are a Nolan head, it's best to start looking at your local theaters now. Want more io9 news?
