England vs India LIVE SCORE UPDATES 4th Test Day 3: Root-Pope keep ENG steady with senisible strokes
The Day 3 of the 4th Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is underway in Manchester today with all eyes on the Indian bowlers, who have the tall task of stopping England from taking the first innings lead cut out for them. At the end of play on Day 2, England had already put up 255 runs on the scoreboard with the loss of just two wickets, trailing by only 133 runs in the innings. The pitch at Old Trafford seems to favour batters as the sessions progress, and the hosts will fancy their chances of taking a big first innings lead and batting India out of the game early. However, Indian skipper Gill knows that on many occasions in the series, a team has been just one or two wickets away from a collapse. He will hope his bowlers deliver just that, as a couple of wickets in the first hour of play can clearly shift the momentum in India's favour. Root nears historic milestone One of the biggest talking points for Day 3 will be whether Root can add 20 more runs to his overnight tally of 11. If the former English skipper manages to do that, he will surpass Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis on the all-time Test run-scorers list, placing himself at the number three spot with 12,290 runs. Pant stole the spotlight on Day 2 Despite English batters dominating the show on Day 2 — with openers Zak Crawley (84) and Ben Duckett (94) making life miserable for the Indian bowlers through a 166-run opening stand before Ollie Pope (20 not out) and Joe Root (11 not out) ended the day on a high for the hosts — it was actually Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant who was the talk of the town. Pant, who fractured his foot on Day 1, came out to bat despite the injury and scored a magnificent 54, powering India to 358 runs before being bundled out in the first innings. India vs England LIVE Cricket Score, 4th Test Day 3: Ollie Pope and Joe Root to resume for ENG 225/2 against IND in Manchester
India vs England Live Cricket Score, IND vs ENG 4th Test Day 3 Match Updates: Ollie Pope and Joe Root were unbeaten at the end of Day 2 for England, taking them to 225/2 in the fourth of the five-match Test series at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday. The hosts still trail by 133 runs. However, the comfortable position of England in the game can be attributed to the sublime 166-run opening partnership between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. While the wicket did have minimal movement, the Indian bowlers sprayed the ball all around, drifting into the pads of the batters consistently and letting the batters get away with easy boundaries. Earlier, India were bundled out for 358 runs in the first innings after England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan chipped in with half-centuries, and England skipper Stokes shone with a 5-wicket haul after eight years in Test match cricket. Flat Jasprit Bumrah, tired Mohammed Siraj, nervy Kamboj, how India's nightmarish day unfolded at Old Trafford India's players walk towards the pavilion at stumps on day 2 of the fourth cricket Test match between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester on Thursday. (AP Photo) India's bowlers struggled on a changing pitch during a cricket match against England. While they faced unfavorable conditions in the afternoon (bright sun, less swing) compared to England's morning spell (cloud cover, rain), India's poor bowling performance allowed England's openers to build a dominant 166-run partnership. This put England in a strong position, making India's first-innings total of 358 look inadequate. (Read more from Sandeep Dwivedi)

IND vs ENG 4th Test Live Updates Day 3: Indian bowlers need wickets, or else series could well be over for Gill, Gambhir
India vs England 4th Test Live Updates Day 3, IND vs ENG: When the first session begins on Day 2, India will be looking to stage a fight back and break the threatening partnership of Ollie Pope (20*) and Joe Root (11*). Pope and Root will resume batting for the hosts, who stand at 225/2, in response to India's 358. Ben Stokes' first five-for in eight years on Day 2 shifted the tide to England's side and it was well-complemented by a 166-run opening run stand between openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley. On Day 2, England bowlers were in total control and hit better lenghts, found movement with the second ball and dismantled India for 358, even though Rishabh Pant put in a heroic effort with the bat, despite a broken foot. The Indian total seemed good before England began their innings. But as time went by, it began to become dreary for More Indian pacers didn't get help and were poor with the new ball. They often strayed in line and sent loose deliveries, which Duckett and Crawley pounced on with ease. Crawley was eventually dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 84 off 113. Meanwhile, debutant Anshul Kamboj removded Duckett for 94 off 100 balls. Speaking on his knock, Crawley said, 'I have high standards for myself, and I work very hard in my game. I always want more for myself, and I've certainly wanted more for myself than I've got in the last year or so. That's just an internal thing. I don't feel that pressure from anyone else.' 'I just feel like I owe it to myself to have a few more good performances. Days like today make the practice and the tougher times worth it a bit more. Obviously, I wanted more runs today, but I feel like I've worked hard and earned those runs,' he added. For India, Ravindra Jadeja failed to build on his Lord's heroics and was dismissed for 20 off 40 balls. Meanwhile Shardul Thakur registered 41 off 88 balls. Pant, who retired hurt on Day 1, returned to bat and got a valiant half-century. He smacked 54 off 75 balls, packed with three fours and two sixes, and soon after his dismissal, it was done and dusted for India. It is not yet game over for the visitors though. The dismissals of both openers in the final hour definitely gave them motivation. Also, Jadeja is getting help from the pitch. They will look to break Pope and Root's partnership early, otherwise things could get out of hand.

Zak Crawley hits back at Shubman Gill's 90 seconds claim: It wasn't intentional
England opener Zak Crawley has responded calmly to Shubman Gill's claim that he and fellow batter Ben Duckett arrived 90 seconds late to the crease in the third Test at Lord's, clarifying that any delay was the media after the second day of the fourth Test in Manchester, Crawley explained that he remained in the dressing room until he saw the umpires walk out, following what he believed to be standard acknowledging Gill's concerns, Crawley maintained that the situation was a misunderstanding rather than a breach of protocol. He reaffirmed his respect for the match officials and the spirit of the game. ENG vs IND, 4th TEST DAY 2 SCORECARD | HIGHLIGHTS"No, it wasn't intentional. I sit in my spot until the umpires go out. I walked out when I saw them go. I wasn't aware we were 90 seconds late, but fair enough,' Crawley said. 'I love batting with Ben Duckett'Day 2 saw England seize the momentum at Old Trafford, thanks to a rapid-fire opening stand of 166 runs between Ben Duckett (94) and Crawley (84). The pair scored at over five runs per over across just 32 overs, putting India on the back foot century opening partnership was only the fifth for Duckett and Crawley in 53 Test innings together. Duckett blazed his way to 94 off around 100 balls, while Crawley impressed with a composed 84, handling the seaming conditions with confidence and their partnership, Crawley said, "I love batting with him. He's a phenomenal player. He scores effortlessly — today, almost a run-a-ball — and that takes pressure off me. We communicate well in the middle, and with our left-right combo and height difference, I'm sure it's tricky for bowlers when we're both going.'By the close of play, England had reached 225 for two, narrowing the gap to just 133 runs behind India's first-innings total of 358.- EndsMust Watch

Manchester Test: Indian bowlers fail to back up Pant's fight with fractured toe
On a day when Rishabh Pant produced a courageous act, batting with a fractured toe to help push India's first-innings total past 350, the Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling unit faltered, handing the momentum back to England as early as Day 2 of the fourth Test in Manchester. Pant, visibly in discomfort, battled through pain to score a defiant half-century, but the Indian bowlers were well below par, allowing the English openers to dominate stumps, England had reached 225 for 2 in just 46 overs, scoring at a brisk rate of 4.89 runs per over. Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley put on a commanding 166-run stand off just 192 balls, taking the Indian new-ball attack to task in a dominant afternoon vs IND, 4th TEST DAY 2 SCORECARD | HIGHLIGHTS India found some consolation late in the day as Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Anshul Kamboj dismissed the openers, denying them deserved centuries. Nonetheless, England had already reduced the deficit significantly, trailing by only 133 runs by close of play. Ollie Pope (20*) and Joe Root (11*) remained unbeaten, poised to push England further ahead on Day 3 and set up the prospect of batting India out of the Siraj, fielding at cover in the final over of the day, walked up to the stumps and flipped the bails in a bid to reverse India's fortunes. The bail switch, made famous by Stuart Broad, has been tried by Siraj on several occasions, but on Thursday evening, it felt more like an act of desperation. The Indian bowlers had been taken apart by Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, and Siraj's gesture seemed symbolic of a day gone continued his love affair with Manchester, the venue where he dismantled Australia in the 2023 Ashes Test. The ease and aggression with which Crawley and Duckett tore into the Indian attack brought back memories of that Old Trafford encounter. Between them, they struck 26 boundaries and a six, sending the Indian bowlers on a leather hunt and reminding fans of England's scoring blitz during the Ashes, when Australia laboured to 317 at 3.52 runs per over, only to watch England respond with a whirlwind 592 at 5.49 runs per was a crucial knock for Crawley, whose place in the side was under the scanner after a string of low scores in the series. "There is a bit more pace and carry here which suits my game. I feel I don't have to hit it too hard or think so much and that was the case today..I feel I can react and play against the quicker guys, while I took some deep breaths today to keep me relaxed," the England opener said, describing his love affair with Manchester. India will be desperate to avoid a repeat of that script. A vastly improved bowling effort will be needed on Day 3 to claw their way back into the contest. Otherwise, the "moving day" could swiftly move away from them—at a pace quicker than Jofra Archer's will come back tomorrow and try to hit the right areas. We have to be mindful of not giving them boundaries, because they are intent on scoring boundaries. They are not looking for singles and twos," Anshul Kamboj said, speaking to Sony Sports after his second day as a Test cricketer. India will be hoping the pitch, which is getting drier, will assist India's spinners. Jadeja, who got the big wicket of Crawley, will be hoping to lead the Indian fightback on Friday morning. WEATHER GODS CHEATED INDIA? Earlier, England, led by Ben Stokes, bowled with great discipline across the first two sessions on a helpful Old Trafford pitch. Stokes ended his eight-year wait for a five-wicket haul in Test cricket, once again proving to be the spearhead of the English bowling attack, especially in overcast once the sun emerged in the afternoon, the surface began to flatten out and batting became easier. Even so, India's bowling performance was substandard. Their lines and lengths lacked consistency, particularly with the new have been cheated by the weather gods," Sanjay Manjrekar joked when recapping the day's play."Overcast conditions also changed. When India were batting, it was dark and overcast, there was moisture on the pitch as well. The pitch really eased up during England's innings. "It looked so difficult even for Jasprit Bumrah to bowl a wicket-taking delivery. Glad those two wickets came in the end," he said. The decision to hand the new ball to debutant Anshul Kamboj raised eyebrows. The young pacer struggled to settle into a rhythm and was expensive early on, allowing Duckett and Crawley to capitalise and ease the pressure that Bumrah had tried to build from the other Bumrah himself lacked his usual incisiveness, looking the least threatening he has all series. India's attack, in general, appeared to be trying too hard—perhaps in response to the lack of assistance from the pitch—while England's bowlers had earlier shown the value of patience and was Stokes who delivered yet another lion-hearted spell, just a week after leading England to a famous win at Lord's. The England captain bowled 24 overs and picked up five wickets on Day 2, including those of the well-set Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, and debutant Anshul Kamboj, having already dismissed Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill on the opening Thakur stepped up with the bat after being promoted ahead of Washington Sundar on Day 1, justifying the move with a composed innings. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant received a standing ovation from the Manchester crowd as he bravely walked out to bat despite nursing a fractured toe. Pant added 17 runs to his overnight score of 37, but rather than hold back to bat with the tail, he strode out following Shardul's dismissal—demonstrating tremendous commitment and fighting spirit.A knock for the ages! #RishabhPant returned after being retired hurt and showed the world what true grit looks would you rate Rishabh Pant's comeback knock? #ENGvIND 4th TEST, DAY 3 | FRI, 25th JUL, 2:30 PM | Streaming on JioHotstar!Ok Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 24, 2025However, Pant was undone by a pearler from Jofra Archer, who has complemented Stokes wonderfully well in the last two Tests. Stokes has now bowled 129 overs in the series—more than any Indian bowler. He thrived in helpful conditions at Old Trafford, breaking partnerships at will while maintaining control throughout his spells. His ability to strike at crucial moments has made him the linchpin of England's bowling India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik lauded Stokes, calling him the standout bowler of the series so far.'He was lion-hearted, for a start. He's bowling long spells, and when the game is on the line, you can't get the ball out of his hands,' Karthik said.'He also has control over what he wants to do with the ball and has easily been the best bowler across both teams in this series.'England will now be hoping their skipper can carry that form into his batting and make India's path to a comeback even more difficult.- EndsYou May Also Like
