Incredible reason Man Utd gave mega-money deal to 'body language consultant'
Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was behind the decision to hire a body language consultant, who worked with players to improve their effectiveness at penalties Manchester United signed off on the hiring a body language consultant paid £175k-a-year... simply to keep Erik ten Hag happy. Dutch coach Ten Hag was sacked as United manager in October, bringing to an end his two and a half years in charge as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team opted to hire Ruben Amorim as his replacement. Ten Hag arrived at United on the back of three Eredivisie titles with Ajax and won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup while at Old Trafford. He won 70 of his 128 matches in charge altogether but was sacked after a defeat by West Ham left United 14th in the Premier League. Ratcliffe had toyed with dismissing Ten Hag last summer, but the FA Cup final win over Manchester City bought him more time. He was even handed a new contract – a decision which ended up costing the club around £14million in compensation to Ten Hag and his coaching staff. United have been on a cost-cutting mission since Ratcliffe took over control of sporting operations in February 2024, with the petrochemicals billionaire slashing hundreds of jobs, including the ambassadorial role for legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Ratcliffe has made it clear that he believes he inherited an inefficient club which has been wasting money across the board. Ratcliffe was dismayed to see that the club were forking out £175,000 per year to pay a body language consultant, who, according to The Athletic, was working with the players on penalties. Ten Hag was behind the decision because he wanted his players to better recognise facial expressions and other signs that can help in high-pressure shoot-outs. The report states that United's executives had green lighted the expenditure largely just to appease Ten Hag. But that outlook was changed by Ratcliffe, who saw it as an unnecessary expense. United did win two penalty shoot-outs during the time period in which they were working with the expert. They saw off Brighton and Coventry in the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2023 and 2024 respectively, with Ten Hag praising his side's coolness after they saw off the Sky Blues on their way to winning the trophy last year. "It was about mentality in that moment,' he said at Wembley. 'You have a plan and have full confidence so I told them to stick to the plan. I had confidence we would win the shootout. Normally Casemiro scores, we train them very well. "I am always calm, I focus and know my players can shoot penalties. I'm always confident Andre [Onana] will catch minimum one. I was quite convinced but when the first is a mis-hit then you never know." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. EXCLUSIVE Qatar group Sir Jim Ratcliffe beat to Man United ownership WON'T renew their interest in the club despite share price plummeting on back of dire campaign
The Qatari group which failed to complete a £4.5billion takeover of Manchester United is not reviving its interest – despite a terrible season for the club which has seen its share price plummet. Mail Sport revealed that the Doha-based outfit, led by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, had joined the hunt to buy the turmoiled Premier League giants after owners the Glazer family announced they were open to selling in November 2022. However, following a protracted process the group eventually lost out to a bid for a minority share from petrochemicals billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which valued the club higher. Since that deal was completed last January, United have continued to underperform, aside from a shock FA Cup Final victory. Defeat in the Europa League Final on Wednesday under manager Ruben Amorim means they will end the season trophyless and a maximum of two places above the relegation zone. At a time of widespread cost-cutting and redundancies, overseen by Ratcliffe's INEOS group, it also means that in a further, heavy financial hit there will be no European football at Old Trafford next season. The group had tried to complete a £4.5billion bid to buy United before Sir Jim Ratcliffe became involved with the club United's share price is down more than 17 per cent year on year and speculation has been rife that the Qataris, against such a backdrop, may feel emboldened to launch a new bid. However, Mail Sport understands that there is currently little chance of that happening and little appetite for such a move given how the process played out with the Glazer family. To add to the matter, INEOS are thought to have no intention of walking away from the club following the amount of work they have already carried out to change its direction. Fans are set to protest at today's season-ending fixture with Aston Villa, with the Glazers – who saddled the club with debt following their leveraged buyout in 2005 – coming in for the most criticism. Last year, revealed details of 'Project Ruby', the Qataris' grand plan to restore United to the top. It included proposals for a new stadium and a rebuild fuelled by vast wealth and a mix of United legends and some of sport's leading execs.

Bayern Munich planning to talk with Manchester United for Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United fans are eager to discover the club's plans for Bruno Fernandes following the Europa League final debacle. INEOS have said every player is for sale for the right price, including the club captain, despite his importance to the squad. Al-Hilal have reportedly already submitted a gigantic offer and have given the Portuguese ace three days to decide on his next course of action. Ruben Amorim once again made it clear that the 30-year-old is not for sale, but INEOS are reportedly willing to let him leave should any club offer them over £100 million. As relayed by The Peoples Person, Fernandes has no intention of leaving Europe at this stage of his career, and Real Madrid could revisit their interest. Now, Teamtalk have revealed that Bayern Munich are ready to open talks with the Portugal international having identified him as the perfect alternative for Florian Wirtz, who seems destined for Liverpool. The Bavarians are planning to sit down with United officials to try and figure out a way forward but whether they can afford United's asking price remains to be seen. 'Bayern Munich have lost out to Liverpool in the race to sign Florian Wirtz and could launch a blockbuster move for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as an alternative, TEAMtalk understands. 'TEAMtalk understands that Bayern are keen to sit down and have a conversation with Man Utd's representatives over a potential deal for Fernandes. 'However, Man Utd have no intention of letting Fernandes go on the cheap. Sources state that it would take a bid of over £100m for them to consider a sale.' Bayern were ready to spend big on the Bayer Leverkusen ace but whether they will be willing to splurge on someone who is eight years his senior remains to be seen. Fans will be left distraught if Bruno Fernandes leaves in the summer, given he is the only world-class superstar in the squad currently. Man Utd fans in disbelief as three Euro giants compete for ‘sloppy' Ten Hag signing
Despite his woeful campaign, Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund remains very popular in Italy, as three Serie A giants are reportedly vying for his services. On Sunday, the Red Devils will put an end to one of the worst seasons in the club's history when they take on Aston Villa in a meaningless contest for Ruben Amorim's men. United currently sit in astonishing 16th position in the Premier League, and their hopes of rescuing something out of this miserable campaign faded after falling short against Spurs in the Europa League final on Wednesday. Sadly for Hojlund, he has been identified as the face of Man Utd's horrific season. The Dane has been shockingly poor in front of goal, scoring only 10 goals throughout the season, with just four coming in the Premier League. Roy Keane went on to describe Hojlund as 'sloppy' and 'not good enough' to play for Man United. Therefore, INEOS are already searching the market for a new centre-forward, with the likes of Liam Delap and Jean-Philippe Mateta emerging as some of the most reasonable candidates considering the circumstances. But while most Man Utd fans would struggle to envision any top side wanting to accommodate Hojlund, Serie A has reportedly yielded not one, but three! According to TuttoJuve, Inter Milan have now joined Juventus and Napoli in the race for the 22-year-old striker. Hojlund spent a solitary career in the Italian top flight. This was the 2022/23 campaign, which he spent under the tutelage of Atalanta's Gian Piero Gasperini. The young striker was an instant hit at Bergamo, which prompted Man United to splash a whopping £72 million to secure his signature. Hojlund's stats by competition Appearances Goals Assists Premier League 61 14 3 Serie A 32 9 4 Although the player failed to justify this hefty figure, the Italian giants still remember the promising Danish bomber who took Serie A by storm, so they're willing to give him the opportunity to revive his career. In Naples, Hojlund would reunite with Scott McTominay who has been selected as the Serie A MVP of the season after leading Antonio Conte's men's towards a fourth league title on Friday.

Every Manchester United player up for sale: Here's what each player is worth
Man Utd Transfer List Entire Team After Europa League Collapse/ Image: Getty Manchester United have entered full-blown crisis mode after a humiliating 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final extinguished their last hope of Champions League qualification. The defeat not only cost them £100 million in potential revenue but confirmed the club's worst season in modern history, with the team now set to finish as low as 17th in the Premier League , just one place above relegation. The fallout was swift and brutal. Manager Ruben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag to revive United's fortunes, offered to resign without compensation in a tense post-match press conference. 'I will go the next day without any conversation about compensation,' he said. 'But I will not quit. I am really confident in my job.' Despite public unrest, Amorim retains the backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and will lead a dramatic rebuild this summer. With Champions League football off the table and United's share value plummeting 60% under INEOS ownership, the club must now raise funds fast, and that means putting nearly the entire squad up for sale. United's sale list: Market values and player futures revealed In an effort to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and finance a major squad overhaul, Manchester United have put 14 players up for potential sale. This excludes out-of-contract veterans such as Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo The list features several big names, with market values provided by Transfermarkt UK, these represent estimated values, not official asking prices. Image: Transfer Markt UK It would seem unthinkable just one year ago that Kobbie Mainoo could leave Manchester United. The academy graduate endured a stunning breakthrough campaign and scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final before staring at the Euros for England. Mainoo, however, has endured a season to forget and Amorim must take some responsibility for failing to utilise him properly. The 20-year-old only got a few minutes off the bench in the Europa League final and United could cash in as he represents pure profit in terms of PSR. Contract extension talks have also stalled with Mainoo but it would be a sad day if he left Old Trafford. 2. Manuel Ugarte – €50.00m Manuel Ugarte only arrived in England last summer for €50 million from PSG but he's been underwhelming. The Uruguay international was an INEOS signing and it caused friction with Erik ten Hag, who didn't want to sell Scott McTominay to fund the sale. Amorim worked with Ugarte at Sporting CP but he was an unused sub in the final, which was telling. It's unlikely that United will cash in this summer for a major loss but Ugarte must step up considerably to avoid being another expensive transfer mistake. 3. Marcus Rashford – €50.00m Marcus Rashford will leave permanently this summer. His relationship with Amorim completely broke down before he was dispatched on loan to Aston Villa. Rashford impressed under Unai Emery and there will be a market for him this summer but his wages could be an issue for prospective buyers. It's understood that United hope to recoup €40-€50m for Rashford and he represents one of their biggest assets. 4. Alejandro Garnacho – €45.00m Alejandro Garnacho was clearly unhappy at only getting 20 minutes off the bench against Tottenham and he didn't hide that disappointment as he questioned Amorim's decision. While many United fans agreed with him, Garnacho's comments won't be appreciated by the manager and his attitude has repeatedly been questioned. The Argentina international possesses huge potential and his attacking numbers this season are good but he also represents pure profit as an academy graduate. Napoli and Chelsea were strongly linked in January and there will be a market for him so United could cash in to fund a rebuild. 5. Rasmus Højlund – €45.00m After a promising first season, Rasmus Højlund has endured a horrific second campaign in England. The 22-year-old has scored just ten goals in 51 games and his all-round game isn't good enough to be United's first-choice striker. United massively overpaid by spending €77.8m to sign Højlund from Atalanta and they'll be lucky to recoup half of that this summer. There is significant interest in Denmark from Italy. 6. Joshua Zirkzee – €35.00m Joshua Zirkzee struggled after joining from Bologna and his first-half substitution against Newcastle was cheered by the Old Trafford support. That was a horrible moment for the Netherlands international but he's shown commendable resolve to battle back from that. Zirkzee is outstanding technically but needs to improve from a physical standpoint. The 24-year-old isn't a natural scorer or a centre-forward - which he was signed to be. 7. Diogo Dalot – €35.00m Diogo Dalot completely splits opinion amongst United fans. The Portugal international has an incredible attitude and works tirelessly but there's justified criticism of his defensive ability. Dalot's versatility is an asset to Amorim's system and he will probably stay but he could be subject of interest on the continent. 8. André Onana – €32.00m André Onana's first season was littered with glaring errors and he's made numerous big mistakes again this campaign. The 29-year-old arrived from Inter Milan with his reputation bolstered by his performance in the Champions League final but he's not cut it at United. Onana changed agents recently and links to Saudi Arabia have intensified. 9. Mason Mount – €28.00m Amorim is a huge admirer of Mason Mount and raised eyebrows by starting him in the Europa League final. The England international's ability isn't in question but his injury history is a major concern. Despite being in the last year of his contract, United spent €64.2m to sign Mount but he's only made 45 appearances across two seasons. 10. Antony – €20.00m Another player who has thrived since leaving United. Antony has been a revelation on-loan at Real Betis and will face Chelsea in the Conference League final next week. The Brazilian has 13 goal contributions in 24 games and United will be aiming to recoup around €40m for Antony after spending an eye-watering €95m to sign him from Ajax. 11. Luke Shaw – €16.00m Like Mount, Luke Shaw's time at United has been decimated by injuries and he's only played 587 minutes this season. The 29-year-old is a top operator when fully fit but he was miles from his best against Tottenham. Shaw's decision to rush back for England last summer also irked United fans and he could depart Old Trafford this summer, 11 years after joining. 12. Harry Maguire – €15.00m Harry Maguire deserves immense credit for battling back from intense criticism to regain the affection of the United support. The England international has been good under Amorim and is perfectly suited to his preference of deploying three centre-backs. United triggered a one-year extension in Maguire's contract in the January but he could be sold if a suitable offer arrives. 13. Casemiro – €12.00m The Brazilian has entered the twilight years of his incredible career and it wouldn't be a surprise if he left this summer. Casemiro was firmly out of favour with Amorim but he regained his faith with several impressive performances on United's run to Bilbao. The former Real Madrid star is now 33 and one of United's biggest earners with a move to Saudi Arabia mooted. 14. Altay Bayındır – €10.00m Altay Bayindir is firmly second-choice to Onana and he's failed to impress when handed opportunities. The Turkey international will have aspirations of playing regularly and United are unlikely to stand in his way.
