Buraidah 2 sewage plant set for operations, says SWPC
Saudi Water Partnership Company has announced that work is in full swing on the Buraidah 2 Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP), which, on completion, will have a 150,000 cu m/day capacity. Located in the Qassim region, approximately 400 km from Riyadh, the Buraydah 2 plant is being implemented on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model. It is currently entering the operational stage. "Work is in full swing on the Buraydah 2 and the plant is now entering the operational stage," said its CEO Engineer Khalid bin Zuwaid Al Quraishi after a recent inspection tour of the project site. A consortium led by Spanish infrastructure major Acciona with Saudi partners Tawzea and Tamasuk had clinched the order for the financing, construction and 25-year operation of the Buraydah-2 plant. As per the deal, Acciona consortium will be building a 30-m-long treated water transmission line at the Buraydah-2 site in addition to three storage tanks and the respective pumping stations, it stated.

India's WABAG secures $371mln EPC order for Al Haer ISTP in Saudi Arabia
Indian water technology company VA Tech Wabag (WABAG) announced on Monday that its consortium with Mutlaq Al-Ghowairi Contracting Company (MGC) has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract worth $371 million for the Al Haer Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) in Riyadh province. On Sunday, Zawya Projects had reported that a consortium led by Saudi-listed utility Miahona, and including Besix and Power and Water Utility Co. for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) achieved financial close on the 1.5 billion Saudi riyals ($399.93 million) ISTP project with a capacity of 200,000 cubic metres per day (m3/day). WABAG said in a stock exchange statement that new award follows an $34 million Engineering and Procurement (EP) order for a 20 MLD [20,000 m3/day] Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWWTP) at Ras Tanura Refinery Complex, where Miahona is the project developer. As the technology partner and leader of the EPC consortium, WABAG will design and build the sewage treatment plant, while MGC will undertake the scope of laying the transmission pipelines and construction of the reservoirs. The project also includes Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) facilities, consisting of a nearly 32 km-long TSE transmission system with a capacity of 400,000 m3/day, a TSE pumping station, and TSE storage tanks with a capacity of 200,000 m3. Al Haer ISTP is expected to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2026. In December 2023, WABAG had reported the cancellation of a previously awarded Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contract worth $317 million for a 300,000 m3/day mega seawater desalination plant in the Kingdom. Miahona says Al-Haer ISTP achieves financial closure, costs SAR 1.5B
Miahona Co. achieved the financial close for Al-Haer independent sewage treatment plant (ISTP) project in Riyadh at a total cost of SAR 1.5 billion, according to a statement to Tadawul. The project duration is 25 years, and the expenses do not include the financing costs. Miahona's stake in the project consortium is 45%. The facilities agreements were sealed on Feb. 7, after fulfilling all requirements and conditions with a group of financiers, namely, Banque Saudi Fransi (BSF), APICORP and Riyad Bank. The project will be developed on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis with a treatment capacity of 200,000 m3/day.
