Tuchel unhappy with England attitude after Andorra toil
BARCELONA, June 7 (Reuters) - England coach Thomas Tuchel criticised his team after they struggled to a 1-0 victory away to Andorra in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday. The German has won his first three matches in charge with no goals conceded but had it not been for Harry Kane's 50th-minute goal his team would have faced humiliation against a side ranked 173rd in the world. After collecting the three points that put England in command of Group K, Tuchel made no attempt to sugar coat a performance that was way below par. "We can just admit it that it's not what we expect from us. We need to look at it in detail and do better on Tuesday," the German told ITV Sport. "We lost all momentum after the first 25 minutes and lacked the quality and the energy. I was most worried in the last 20 minutes, I did not like the attitude that we ended the game with. I didn't like the lack of urgency. It is still a World Cup qualifier away from home." England had 83% of the possession against a nation they had scored 25 goals against without reply in six previous meetings, but suffered from a chronic lack of imagination. Asked if his message before the game had not got through to his players, Tuchel added: "The message got across because we had a good 25 minutes but then the energy and the determination weren't there anymore." It was a refreshingly honest take from the former Paris St Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager whose contract with England only runs to the date of next year's World Cup final. He did have kind words, however, for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke whose display was about the only bright point for England. "He was over the course of the match, the most dangerous. I could feel his hunger to do what was the plan throughout the whole of the match," Tuchel said. Captain Kane, whose goal was the 450th of his career for club and country, also praised Madueke. "I think he was a constant threat today and got the assist for the goal, but we need more of that," Kane said. "We have amazing players and we need players who are not afraid to take players on and if they lose it, do it again." England host Senegal in a friendly in Nottingham on Tuesday.

England resume their World Cup qualification campaign on Saturday with a trip to Andorra, but players are fighting for a diminishing number of places in Thomas Tuchel's squad England boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted there are just 10 spots remaining in his squad for next summer's World Cup. The Three Lions still have six games to play in their qualification group. Their next match comes on Saturday evening when they travel to face minnows Andorra in Barcelona. But having won their opening two qualifiers, England appear almost certain to book their place in next summer's tournament. That will be held across the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. The revamped competition will see more games than ever before, though only 16 countries will be dumped out at the group stage. England are likely to be one of the favourites to win the World Cup, having finished as runners-up in each of the last two European Championships. Tuchel has been brought in to lead them to glory in next summer's tournament. The German has sprung a few surprises in his first few squads, bringing the likes of Jordan Henderson and Ivan Toney in from the cold. He only has a handful more camps in which to test out players in his team. And a year out from the World Cup, the England boss has now confirmed that there are only 10 spots remaining in his squad. Each country will be allowed to name 26 players for the tournament. But Tuchel has already settled on 16 names. He told ITV Sport: "I have to take a guess, I would say 16, maybe. But it's just a guess, maybe it's less, maybe it's more. We need a bit of time. We still have time." The Three Lions are heavy favourites to smash Andorra, before hosting Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest's City Ground on Tuesday. Speaking after naming his squad for these games, Tuchel admitted he is relishing the chance to work with his players again. 'We can't wait,' Tuchel said. 'It's been a while. We had a good first camp and we are eager to do the next step and have a good camp again in Spain and back at St. George's Park with two matches. 'We want to win both matches. It's super important. We are the heavy favourites [against Andorra] and we expect from ourselves a win. We will prepare for this game with all the respect and of course, very seriously. 'We love Wembley and Wembley is our home but it's a nice change of routine [to play at the City Ground]. It will be a nice occasion because Senegal are a strong team, high up in the international ranking, so it will be a good test and a necessary test.' 'This is maybe the last chance to integrate more players and see more players in our environment and see how they behave and see the quality and what they can bring to the group. 'We added some new guys to have a full picture when things become even more competitive in September, October and November.'

We didn't really have any real threat,' Williamson told ITV Sport. 'Under that much pressure against a top side, sometimes that's what happens, they get to you and win the game. 'I think especially first half was a great display, but for the most part we looked solid and we felt solid. 'We feel good, there's just tweaks that need to be made and it's disappointing because that's a competitive fixture and that's an important campaign to us going forward with rankings and seedings. 'I think you saw maybe the best of us the previous game and just slightly off it today.' England boss Sarina Wiegman believes her team showed signs of threat throughout the first half. 'Very intense game. Of course we know that they're very tight on the ball,' she added. 'I think we did well, after the first half they had a little more of the ball, but saw we had the ball a lot too. 'I think we could've been a bit tighter and patient in the first half too, but you could see where we could harm them. I think a couple more times we would not have been offside or play a little quicker behind or switch play quicker, we could've harmed them even more. 'Second half they started really quick, they did something different and pressed really high. We had some trouble to get out of the press and keep the ball. 'Of course they brought Pina in and she was very secure with her shots.' England's attention now turns to Euro 2025 and Wiegman is set to announce her squad for the tournament this week. The team play Jamaica in a friendly on June 29 before their Euros campaign begins against France in Zurich on July 5. Wiegman added: 'What you've seen this week is that we had a very good week. Players coming back from injuries, players fighting for positions or minutes or selection and I think that's very positive. 'Some will keep training because they need to train, others will take a couple of days off. Then we move forward and come together get ready for Jamaica, then for France.'
