Office In Turkey? Congress Launches FIR Against BJP's Amit Malviya, Journalist For Defamation

The Congress Party on Tuesday filed an FIR against BJP leader Amit Malviya and a reputed journalist alleging defamation and accusing them for spreading malicious disinformation about the grand-old party having an office in Turkey. 'This malicious attempt to malign @INC, provoke unrest, and undermine national security is a direct attack on democracy. We will not stay silent. Let this be a clear message: Any attempt to spread fake news against our party or its leadership will be met with firm legal and political response," it added. Earlier today, Malviya called Gandhi 'modern age Mir Jafar" and said that the Congress leader is 'speaking the language of Pakistan and its benefactors". Malviya made these remarks after Gandhi called out External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar over Operation Sindoor. In its complaint, the grand-old party alleged that Malviya and Goswami started spreading a fake claim that the Istanbul Congress Center in Turkey is the office of the Indian National Congress. 'This act was executed with clear and undeniable criminal intent to deceive the Indian public, defame a major political institution, manipulate nationalist sentiments, incite public unrest, and undermine national security and democratic integrity," the FIR read as shared by the party. 'This orchestrated campaign is not a mere ethical lapse but a deliberate criminal conspiracy, executed with premeditation to cause public harm, destabilize the nation, and advance partisan agendas. The accused have abused their positions of influence-Mr. Malviya as a key political strategist and Mr. Goswami as a prominent media figure-to perpetrate a grave assault on truth, public safety, and national interest," the FIR read further. Turkey and Azerbaijan backed Pakistan and condemned India's recent strikes on terror camps in that country and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) under 'Operation Sindoor'. Pakistan also used Turkish drones on a large scale in the conflict. While India's trade ties with the two countries have already come under scrutiny, multiple educational institutions, including Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), have either suspended their collaboration with universities in Turkey or are considering it.

Haryana chief secretary Anurag Rastogi has directed officials to identify one cooperative in the state that can be transformed into a model cooperative in a year known for unique identity and service delivery. Chairing a meeting of state cooperative development committee in Chandigarh on Thursday, chief secretary said that this model cooperative should exemplify innovation, transparency, sustainability, and outstanding service delivery, thereby setting a benchmark for others to follow. The state government in a release said that department unveiled a comprehensive year-long plan to commemorate the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025, in alignment with the United Nations' declaration recognising the crucial role of cooperatives in advancing sustainable development. Haryana has constituted the IYC-State Apex Committee (SAC) to coordinate and supervise the series of activities scheduled throughout the year. The celebrations will begin with the formal launch of the IYC-2025 annual calendar, an action plan booklet, and various publicity materials. The IYC logo will be prominently featured across government communications, social media platforms, and public displays. 'Activities will include cleanliness drives, cooperative-themed podcasts, and the implementation of e-office systems in all cooperative departments,' the spokesperson said. A wide range of programmes will be organised focusing on themes such as women empowerment, youth engagement, technological innovation, and sustainable farming practices. These will include special events, skill development initiatives, national seminars, and grassroots-level campaigns aimed at spreading awareness and strengthening the cooperative movement. The calendar of events also includes a cyclothon, webinars, exhibitions, plantation drives, and knowledge exchange programmes. A plantation drive under the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' shall also be launched this year. Through these extensive programmes, the Haryana government aims to strengthen the cooperative spirit, showcase the state's achievements, and encourage active public participation.

Youth Congress holds ‘Tiranga March' to pay tribute to Pahalgam attack victims
The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Friday held a 'Tiranga March' at the Jantar Mantar here in a tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Scores of party workers and supporters, including IYC's National President Uday Bhanu Chib and National Media in-charge Varun Pandey, took out the March from Jantar Mantar Square to Jantar Mantar – a few hundred metres distance. He said that in an all-party meeting yesterday the Congress affirmed its unequivocal support to the government. "The Congress party is committed to coordinating, cooperating and partnering with the government to root out terrorism. We have fought terrorism and separatism from time to time," Bhanu said. Calling the terror attack "a war against humanity," he said, "Infiltration to the interior parts of our country, killing innocent people, all this is possible only because the terrorist organisations sitting across the border get open support from the Pakistan government." He added, "Now there is a need to root out every hideout of terrorism, adopt a balanced but decisive approach between diplomatic pressure and military action, and most importantly, justice should be given to the family of every martyr. This was not just an attack, it is a war against humanity and we have to win it at all costs." Alia camel: symbol of Jordan's heritage, resilience
AMMAN — The United Nations declared 2024 the International Year of Camelids (IYC 2024). Camels, llamas, alpacas, vicunas, and guanacos are an important source of livelihood for millions of families in deserts and mountainous rangelands around the world. Camelids play a vital role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals related to the fight against hunger, the eradication of poverty, the empowerment of women, and the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. From providing milk, meat, fiber, and organic fertiliser to transporting products and people, camelids thrive where other livestock species cannot survive. Jordan In celebration of camels and Bedouin communities in Jordan, the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), under the patronage of Nizar Haddad (Researcher and former Director General of NARC), and in partnership with Nico Dingemans (founder of From Farm to Fork in Jordan) and Sami Allawama (founder of Camelera camel milk products), organised Ships of the Desert in May 2024 in Wadi Rum, the first IYC event in the Middle East and North Africa. Haddad also led the scientific research The Alia Camel of Jordan: a genetically distinct dromedary breed, which will be published soon, demonstrating that the Alia camels are genetically distinct and deserve preservation. Mohammed Araishi, camel expert at NARC and the Livestock Research Directorate, played a key role in this project. In October 2024, Dingemans and Allawama organised a second camelids event in partnership with FAO Jordan in Amman. In part one of this two-part article, Dingemans delves into the socioeconomic and gastronomic significance of camels and camel products, such as milk, cheese varieties, and meat, with contributions from Allawama, while part two (this article) explores the results of scientific and heritage research by Haddad, Araishi, and the research team. A unique breed in the heart of Jordan Among the diverse types of dromedaries, the Alia camel (locally known as 'Jamal Alia') is a genetically distinct breed found primarily in the arid landscapes of Wadi Araba in the south, and the Jordan Valley in the east. It captured the attention of scientists and cultural enthusiasts alike as recent advanced genomic research identified its' genetic uniqueness due to the exceptional endurance, high milk production, and adaptability to Jordan's diverse environments. Beyond its biological importance, the Alia camel holds a 'special' place in Jordanian culture and history, symbolising resilience, and ingenuity. Heritage written in stone The Alia camel has been a part of Jordan's history since ancient times, dating back to the Nabataean civilisation. Archaeological findings in Petra, including ancient carvings of camels in the Siq, reflect the essential role of camels as indispensable companions for trade and transportation across the Arabian Peninsula. Oral traditions attribute the Alia camel's lineage to the camels of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, further elevating its cultural importance among Jordanian Bedouins. In Jordan's Eastern Desert, rock art further depicts the enduring relationship between camels and Indigenous people of the region. These carvings, etched into the sandstone by early inhabitants, serve as a testament to the camel's importance in daily life and survival, and its' cultural significance is embedded in folklore and identity, social practices and artistic representation. Collaborative research and discovery The 'groundbreaking' research was made possible through the collaboration of several esteemed institutions, including NARC, the University of Jordan, and Victory Genomics. The Alia camel project I initiated as Haddad was supported by the National Centre for Research and Development of the Higher Council for Science and Technology of Jordan, following his prior genetic studies of local Awassi sheep, historical Mehras olive trees, and indigenous honeybee populations, showcasing Jordan's rich agricultural biodiversity. Why Alia camel stands out The study leveraged whole-genome sequencing (WGS), confirming that the Alia camel is genetically distinct from other dromedaries in the Arabian Peninsula. Its' phenotypic characteristics show remarkable traits, such as endurance and speed, high milk yield, adaptability and genetic distinction. This genetic distinctiveness is not due to geographical isolation but rather careful breeding practices in Jordan and the Alia camel's genetic diversity is comparable to or greater than other camel populations, emphasising its biological significance. Challenges, call for conservation Despite its resilience, the Alia camel faces numerous challenges, including habitat loss, modernisation, and a lack of formal recognition as a distinct breed. Conservation efforts are essential to preserving its legacy. Conservation matters due to several aspects related to cultural preservation, economic value, biodiversity.
