Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is actually thinner than the Honor Magic V5

Here's a clear case of 'looking too much at spec sheets may not be very productive', especially when we're talking about 0.1mm differences. See, on paper, the Honor Magic V5 in one specific colorway (called Ivory White) is advertised by the brand to be 8.8mm thick when folded. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7, on the other hand, is 8.9mm thick when folded. So there's a clear winner here, right? A clear "world's thinnest book-style foldable', as it were. Well, not so fast. Place the two side by side and try to balance something off of them, as famed Chinese leaker Ice Universe has done in the video below, and the roles are reversed, as you can see - the Fold7 is clearly the thinner device. There is no accurate measuring tool, but we can still draw a rigorous conclusion: Galaxy Z Fold7 is the thinnest folding mobile phone in the world. I switched the positions of two mobile phones during the test, and the results remained the same, which showed that the factors of… — PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) July 15, 2025 So what gives? Well, it's all about the pre-applied screen protector on the Magic V5, which is not part of the official thickness measurement, but is, well, pre-applied, when you buy the phone, whereas the Samsung doesn't have such a perk. This just goes to show how irrelevant a 0.1mm thickness difference is in real life, despite brands loving to claim things like "world's thinnest" and "world's lightest". So please keep this in mind - you won't feel 0.1mm and you won't feel 1g in real life, thus it only makes sense to make your choice for buying a device based on claims like "world's thinnest" and "world's lightest" if you then want to brag to your friends about your device wearing such a (sometimes very short-lived) crown. In this day and age, a lot of foldables are already thin enough and light enough to be very comfortable to use even when folded, so we'd advise you to make your pick based on other traits they have which you require. What do you think, though? Is all of this too much hype or are even minute differences like these important to you? Let us know in the comments. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7

Could the Galaxy Z Fold 7 really be the world's thinnest foldable after all?

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR A side-by-side comparison shows that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may actually be thinner than the Magic V5. HONOR claims the Magic V5 measures 8.8mm, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm. The unique way the company measured the Magic V5 may explain the discrepancy. When Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it impressed with a thickness of just 8.9mm. This measurement was enough to have it tie with the OPPO Find N5 for the world's thinnest book-style foldable. However, just before Samsung's launch, HONOR stole some of the Galaxy Z Fold 7's thunder by releasing the Magic V5. Thanks to a 0.1mm difference, the Magic V5 was able to snatch the title of world's thinnest for itself. But after some side-by-side comparisons, some are starting to question who the real champion of thinness is. On X (formerly Twitter), well-known leaker Ice Universe posted a video of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 next to the HONOR Magic V5. In the video, the tipster conducts a test by placing a flat card on top of both phones. Here we can see the card is angled slightly upward toward the Magic V5. When he places his finger down on the edge of the card on the Magic V5 side, we see the card lift up off the Galaxy Z Fold 7. No lift occurs when a finger is placed down on the opposite edge. I switched the positions of two mobile phones during the test, and the results remained the same, which showed that the factors of… There is no accurate measuring tool, but we can still draw a rigorous conclusion: Galaxy Z Fold7 is the thinnest folding mobile phone in the world.I switched the positions of two mobile phones during the test, and the results remained the same, which showed that the factors of… — PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) July 15, 2025 For further emphasis, the tipster places a ping-pong ball on the card. Regardless of where the ball is placed, it rolls toward the Galaxy Z Fold 7 every time. The same results occur when swapping the positions of the two phones. This suggests that Samsung's foldable may actually be thinner than HONOR's foldable. So what's going on here? How would this be possible when the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm and HONOR says its phone measures 8.8mm? It appears the answer could be how HONOR got its measurement. Spotted by SamMobile, HONOR's global landing page for the Magic V5 admits that the number does not include the inner or outer protective screens. This measurement also doesn't include the raised part of the camera. While it's not uncommon to exclude the camera bump from this measurement, it is unusual to also exclude the protective layers of the display. Not including the protective layers may have given HONOR the leeway it needed to claim the 8.8mm measurement. In his conclusion, Ice Universe claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the true title holder of world's thinnest foldable. With the extra publicity that comes with being known as the slimmest foldable around, it's no surprise that brands are fighting to be king of the hill. However, trying to claim that title by omitting certain measurements isn't exactly a great look. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Tecno to announce its Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept soon, here's what it looks like

Michail, 08 July 2025 Nearly one year ago, Tecno showcased its first tri-fold concept phone – the Phantom Ultimate 2. That device was later showcased at MWC 2025, and Tecno is now ready to hold a formal announcement. The Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept will be unveiled later this month (mid-July) and we have some early images of the device to share with you today, showcasing the G Fold in its folded and unfolded states. Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept It features an inward-folding design, similar to what Samsung is expected to go with on its own tri-fold. This allows the main display to be completely shielded when folded, providing better protection from accidental damage. We should mention that Tecno's G Fold is still not ready for mass production and will remain a concept for now. Phantom Ultimate G Fold will offer a cover screen on the leftmost part and a triple camera setup. Tecno promises a flat and seamless display when fully unfolded, with no visible crease. This was achieved by combining flexible display layering and developing smaller hinge components for the dual-hinge mechanism. The innovative hinge supports multi-angle hovering and various formations. Tecno also claims the G Fold will be the slimmest tri-fold device to date, which means it will be even thinner than the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which measures a mere 3.6mm when unfolded. In related news, tipster Ice Universe shared even more images of the device. Blue Shadow, which is the standout color option this year in my opinion, can be bought in stores as has genuinely made a generational leap with the Fold this year, and has truly caught up to Chinese foldables in my eyes. Theis super slim, very powerful, has an excellent camera, and is a stunner to boot with a screen that features a very minimal crease. If you go for the 1 TB variant, you also get boosted up to 16 GB of RAM, which is always welcome.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: This is Samsung's new OLED display tech to beat iPhone 17 Pro Max

Samsung is preparing to introduce new technology that could change the display experience on its upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. As the company wraps up its current flagship releases, early reports reveal that the next-generation model may feature a significant upgrade to its screen, which will focus on improving colour accuracy, brightness, and power efficiency. Samsung could upgrade the Galaxy S26 Ultra display with new CoE OLED tech for better performance.(HT) What Is CoE OLED Technology? The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is rumoured to adopt a new type of OLED display known as CoE OLED, which stands for Colour-on-Emitter OLED. This technology will change the traditional display design by integrating the colour filter directly onto the light-emitting layer of the screen, according to the Android Headlines report. Typically, in standard OLED panels, the colour filters and light-emitting layers are separate, which can cause some loss of light and reduce overall display performance. Also read: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 FE, and Watch 8: Here's everything announced at Galaxy Unpacked July event By combining these layers, CoE OLED improves how light passes through the display. This results in higher light extraction efficiency, meaning the screen can produce brighter images without using more power. For users, this could translate into a screen that remains clear and visible even under bright sunlight while helping to extend the phone's battery life. CoE OLED Display May Redefine Screen Design The new technology also promises to expand the colour range that the screen can display. With colour filters positioned closer to the light source, the screen can deliver more accurate and vivid colours. This means the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could offer a more realistic and immersive viewing experience across different types of content. This element works by reducing internal reflections within the screen, which can improve contrast and sharpness, further enhancing image clarity. Also read: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra review: Almost the perfect Android flagship If Samsung successfully integrates CoE OLED and depolarizer technology into the Galaxy S26 Ultra, users can expect a display that offers brighter visuals, richer colours, and better battery efficiency. With the Galaxy S26 Ultra still months away, more details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. For now, the focus remains on whether Samsung will include CoE OLED and other advanced screen technologies in its next flagship release.
