Kota Srinivasa Rao: The man who made every scene matter
HYDERABAD: He never needed a monologue. Never needed a backstory. All Kota Srinivasa Rao needed was a minute, sometimes just a line, and he'd turn a routine scene into something bordering on the divine. He didn't just act. He inhabited. Like water taking the shape of every vessel, Kota morphed into whatever the story demanded, bringing with him a weight of experience, a smile lined with irony, a glare laced with secrets, and pauses that let the silence throb. Over 750 films. Four languages. Every emotion in the book. But Kota Srinivasa Rao's gift wasn't just volume. It was precision. Where other actors acted at you, Kota acted with you, turning even the most transactional roles into studies of human nature. The father, the fraud, the philosopher To see Kota play a father was to understand that parenting isn't always loud. In Bommarillu (2006), he was a gentle patriarch who knew when to yield. In Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule (2007), he brought a practically tender authority that felt lived-in, never theatrical. In Idiot (2002), his annoyance as Ravi Teja's father crackled with bemused affection. He didn't act fatherhood, he understood it, sculpted it scene by scene. Now pivot to his villains, Kota's baddies were never generic. They were philosophical. See Athadu (2005), where as a corrupt politician, his end feels less like a punishment and more like karma catching its breath. Or in Sarkar (2005), where he delivered the line 'Style South, operation complete North' with a chill so cool, it could freeze lava. His villainy didn't shout. It smirked in ways that a man truly became sinister.

When Shah Rukh Khan Shot 36 Hours "Straight" For Circus
New Delhi: There are actors and then there is Shah Rukh Khan. There is a reason why fans call him 'King Khan'. Agree? SRK is known for his craft, discipline and dedication. Now, SRK's Circus co-star Renuka Shahane has shared her two cents. She recalled the time when Shah Rukh Khan worked for 36 hours straight for the TV show. Circus aired between 1989 and 1990 on DD National. It featured Ashutosh Gowariker and Sameer Khakhar. Directed by Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah, the series revolved around the lives of a circus troupe. During a conversation with Filmfare, Renuka Shahane said, 'His [Shah Rukh Khan's] attitude toward work is like that. I've seen him work for 36 hours straight. We had two units on Circus — one managed by Kundan and the other by Aziz — and SRK was in practically every frame of the show. So, I have seen him shooting for 36 hours at a stretch. Yet, not a single wrinkle appeared on his face. He never complained about anything either.' The actress also shared a wonderful piece of advice that Shah Rukh Khan once gave her. She said, 'My character, Maria, had a fear of heights, and so did I in real life. Hence, I was really scared while doing some of my scenes, particularly the ones featuring me getting on the trapeze. We all belong to the same age group, and, at that time, Shah Rukh wasn't a film star. He was already a television star, though. So, after pack-up, we all used to discuss things.' 'I was really scared, especially because I had to shoot with Kundan. Then, Shah Rukh [Khan] came up to me and said, 'Listen, you are an actor. If the director tells you this is a well and asks you to jump, you jump. You shouldn't think about your fear of heights and all,'' Renuka Shahane added. Apart from Circus, Shah Rukh Khan has appeared in various TV shows like Fauji, Doosra Keval, Mahan Kar z and Idiot. The superstar will be next seen in Sujay Ghosh's King. The film will also feature SRK's daughter, Suhana Khan.

SRK Worked For 36 Hours On Circus, Says Co-Star: 'Not A Single Wrinkle Appeared On His Face'
Last Updated: Shah Rukh Khan started on TV with Fauji and Circus, before going on to becoming a huge movie star. Shah Rukh Khan, before becoming one of Bollywood's biggest stars, began his career on television with popular shows like Fauji, Dil Dariya, Doosra Keval, Circus, and Idiot. In Circus, directed by Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah, he worked alongside future stars like Ashutosh Gowariker, Makrand Deshpande, Renuka Shahane, and Sameer Khakhar. Reflecting on those early days, Renuka Shahane recently shared a memory of Shah Rukh giving her a valuable piece of advice, which Ashutosh Gowariker later helped her apply while they were working together on the show. In a chat with Filmfare, Renuka Shahane talked about her time on the show Circus. She said she was scared of heights, just like her character Maria, which made some scenes hard to do. She recalled, 'My character, Maria, had a fear of heights, and so did I in real life. Hence, I was really scared while doing some of my scenes, particularly the ones featuring me getting on the trapeze. We all belong to the same age group, and, at that time, Shah Rukh wasn't a film star. He was already a television star, though. So, after pack-up, we all used to discuss things." She went on to add, 'I was really scared, especially because I had to shoot with Kundan. Then, Shah Rukh came up to me and said, 'Listen, you are an actor. If the director tells you this is a well and asks you to jump, you jump. You shouldn't think about your fear of heights and all.' He actually works like that. His attitude toward work is like that. I've seen him work for 36 hours straight. We had two units on Circus — one managed by Kundan and the other by Aziz — and SRK was in practically every frame of the show. So, I have seen him shooting for 36 hours at a stretch. Yet, not a single wrinkle appeared on his face. He never complained about anything either." Renuka Shahane also shared a memory of Ashutosh Gowariker jokingly telling her that if a director asks her to jump, she should reply, 'First, you jump and show me." But the professionalism SRK was talking about was, don't overthink or question these things. It's the director's vision, and as an actor, you have to fulfill it. His words got me thinking. One can be mollycoddling of oneself, and we need to stretch ourselves." First Published:
