Rodgers sets record straight on Celtic transfer policy

With the Parkhead club making signings like Shin Yamada, Callum Osmand and Hayato Inamura this summer, the perception from some has been that these are club signings brought in independently of the manager. But, while some players will be identified by the recruitment team, the manager insists they would never be signed without his say-so. Young players like that will be brought in to be developed, but also potentially contribute right away too. While others, like Benjamin Nygren, are brought in with the intention of being key players from the start. 'It's pretty straightforward," Rodgers insisted. "There will be players within our recruitment team that are not just for now but for the future. 'Clearly I will look at those players and assess, and see if those players can come in and play. Then there will be other players we specifically need. But it's still very much joined up. Read more: 'I suppose it's more around whether the players are for now or later. People know the model over a number of years. 'There are players who come in who are maybe not expected to hit the ground running, but some of them do. 'That's what I need to assess, those guys coming in. But I also need to win now, and we need to get those players in. Either way, I will be responsible for that. 'Club signings, with the greatest respect, I don't care where they come from. I just need good players in the building who can help us win today, tomorrow and the next week. 'I've always developed players in my career, so I respect that side of it, but also the need for the present." Addressing Osmand, Inamura and Yamada directly, he added: 'You look at the likes of Callum Osmand. He's a young, talented player, so is he ready now or does he need a loan. 'You don't know that until you assess that. He's still our signing. 'Inamura, for example, the idea was he's a talented player, but he's only been playing professional for a year. Read more: 'But he's a really gifted played who played mostly at centre half or left back, so we'll have a look at him. 'The idea was he's train and work, but would maybe need a loan. In actual fact he's come in and done really well. "Yamada is only in the door. He has the profile and attributes we really like but for me, there is still more work for us to do.' Celtic's transfer strategy coming under scrutiny isn't a new thing - it has happened window after window. Last summer, the main signings were Adam Idah, Auston Trusty and Arne Engels for a combined £25.5million. Questions have been raised over whether they have justified that. But the Northern Irishman has brushed those aside and insists the trio's contributions speak for themselves. 'There was a bit of focus around the players who came in last year and question marks around what they brought. 'For one, they didn't set the price. But, two, Celtic did as well as they've done for a decade and those guys really helped us.

Oba Femi retains WWE NXT Championship, Blake Monroe earns first singles win

Oba Femi retained his NXT Championship in a hard-hitting triple threat main event against Yoshiki Inamura and Josh Briggs on this week's WWE episode on Tuesday night. As Inamura and Briggs brawled, Femi regrouped and capitalized, flooring Briggs before delivering his signature Fall From Grace to seal the victory and keep his title. Kieran Tierney reacts to 'emotional' Celtic ovation as Hayato Inamura earns incredible reaction

The left-back duo have impressed for the Hoops so far in pre-season Emotional Kieran Tierney has responded to the warm reception he received from Celtic fans on his return to Parkhead. ‌ The left-back has been a key part of Brendan Rodgers pre-season plans and supporters saw a glimpse of his best form against Sporting CP on Wednesday night. ‌ But six years on from his £25million move to Arsenal he was back on the pitch at Celtic Park after an injury-plagued spell in North London. ‌ Tierney replaced Hayato Inamura in the second half of the clash with Newcastle United to warm reception from the Hoops' diehards as the Scottish Premiership champions ran out 4-0 winners. Speaking to Celtic TV after the final whistle about the homecoming reception, the club hero said: "Aw, whit man... amazing. "I didn't know what to expect. But what a feeling, it was quite emotional actually running on to the park like that. But amazing, a great day for me." ‌ He followed it up on his Instagram commenting with an image of the moment he replaced Inamura saying: "Wow! What a feeling. Thank you so much, that was so special." But the man who he replaced during the drubbing of the Premier League side is also winning over the punters after his arrival from Albirex Niigata earlier this summer. Having initially been expected to be on the fringes of the squad, 23-year-old Inamura was handed a start against Eddie Howe's Magpies. ‌ Posting to X, one fan said: "I know it's pre season but as far as tests go that's a good judge. Fantastic start for Inamura." Another added: "For a centre half who was signed from a team near the bottom of the J-League to get played at left back in the last couple of games, Inamura has settled in nicely so far." A diehard chimed in: "Liking Inamura composure on the ball" ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Brendan Rodgers addresses Celtic left-back transfer question

The Japanese player, initially not planned to be part of the first team, has impressed during pre-season matches, prompting manager Rodgers to reconsider his options. Inamura played in the 2-1 win over Cork City and the 3-2 loss to Estrela de Amadora. Rodgers said [RecordSport]: "The pre-season is always to assess. "We know the model here at the club is always to improve them. Read more: "Sometimes that means they come in and you assess and look, and look to see what's right for the development of them and the team. "That's what I'm about, getting a collection of individual players that I can see development and improvement in. "If they are going to be close to the first-team, they'll stay and do that. "If not, we may feel they need to go out. "Ina's that example. "I just wanted to get the chance to see him and we'll continue to do that. "But we know in the background that if we need to move on that position, that's something that we will be ready to do." Celtic play Sporting CP on Wednesday.

Brendan Rodgers in Celtic left-back transfer update

Inamura started in Celtic's 2-1 win over Cork City on Tuesday evening and played the second half as they lost 3-2 to Estrela de Amadora on Saturday. "The pre-season is always to assess," said Rodgers, as quoted by RecordSport. "We know the model here at the club is always to improve them.
