Shubman Gill's Sister In Tears, GT Coach's Son Heartbroken After Loss vs Mumbai Indians

Gujarat Titans crashed out of IPL 2025 after losing to Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the Eliminator on Friday. Chasing a mammoth target of 229, Gujarat Titans were in the game thanks to a stunning knock from Sai Sudharsan but were unable to clinch the victory. It was a crushing defeat for the side and emotions got the better of some family members of the GT players and staff. Following the end of the match, head coach Ashish Nehra 's son was seen crying in the stands. Even Shubman Gill 's sister could not control her tears as she was consoled by the people setting beside her in the stands. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill pinpointed the three dropped opportunities that cost them their chance of restraining Mumbai Indians on 210, which would have been a par score following their defeat in the Eliminator in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai trounced Gujarat with a 20-run victory in a run-scoring fest in Mullanpur, a fixture where momentum swung like a pendulum. Still, signs of MI's victory were written all over the wall after Sai Sudharsan's dismissal. 𝙈𝙄-𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙮 effort on a 𝙈𝙄-𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙮 occasion @mipaltan seal the #Eliminator with a collective team performance Scorecard ▶ #TATAIPL | #GTvMI | #TheLastMile — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 30, 2025 The Titans were responsible for hurting their chances to set a date with Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 2 in their home den in Ahmedabad on Sunday. After being put to bowl by MI, Gerald Coetzee was responsible for dropping Rohit on three in the second over and in the next over, Kusal Mendis floored the opportunity to remove Rohit on 12 after the ball popped out of his hand. Mendis, who was roped in as Jos Buttler 's replacement, was the culprit for offering Suryakumar Yadav a lifeline in the 12th over. The dynamic batter had a poke and gave away an outside edge, but Mendis failed to latch onto it. Rohit added 69 runs and ended with 81(50), while Suryakumar (33) didn't create much of a ruckus and returned after adding eight runs to his score. Gujarat's woes increased in the climax of the phase after Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya deposited the ball into the stands thrice to lift Mumbai to a daunting 228/5 on the board. "It was a brilliant game of cricket, and we were right in it. The last three-four overs didn't go our way, but it was still a good game. Definitely not easy when we drop three sitters. It wasn't easy for the bowlers to control, and it doesn't help when you drop three catches. 210 would've been par for us on this pitch. Even in the last over, we were talking if we had taken one or two less sixes it would have made a huge difference," Gill said after the match.

Jasprit Bumrah's one over of doom ends Gujarat Titans' IPL dream, toe-crushing yorker gives Sundar Ollie Pope deja vu

Jasprit Bumrah, time and time again, keeps showing the world why no one comes close to him in being the biggest match-winner in world cricket currently. The India speedster keeps changing the complexion of the game whenever he steps out on the park, and it is no surprise that it took Bumrah's brilliance to help Mumbai Indians brush aside the challenge of Gujarat Titans to progress to Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, where they will take on Punjab Kings. Gujarat Titans were in with for than a shout to chase down 229 and disrupt Mumbai Indians' plans of winning their sixth IPL title. Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar were keeping up with the asking run rate and no bowler was able to stop the onslaught. When there were no other options available, Hardik Pandya turned to Bumrah as the last resort as he brought the senior pacer into the attack in the 14th over. It was now or never for Mumbai Indians. Had Bumrah failed to strike, who knows what would have happened? But we will never know as the 31-year-old did what he knows best - take a wicket when the team desperately needs it. In the 14th over, Bumrah conceded just four runs but more importantly, he got the key wicket of Washington Sundar (48) on the fourth delivery. What a sight it was - a pitch-perfect yorker rattling the stumps of Sundar. The delivery will instantly remind you of Ollie Pope's dismissal in the India versus England Test series last year in Vizag. On the fourth ball of the 14th over, Bumrah floored Sundar with a toe-crushing yorker. The pacer bowled a yorker on the leg stump, and Sundar opened his stance to try and flick it. However, he ended up leaving a gap, and the ball went through his legs. Sundar fell over on the ground and the ball crashed into the leg-stump. Bumrah was pumped up, and he gave a send-off to Sundar without saying anything as his eyes did all the talking. In a match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, more than 430 runs were scored, and Bumrah showed why he is a world-beater by conceding just 27 runs. The pacer proved why every over of his, is worth its weight in gold. Bumrah also bowled the 18th over of the game when Gujarat Titans needed 45 runs to win off 18 balls. Bumrah conceded nine runs, firmly taking the game away from Gujarat Titans' grasp. In the final two overs, Trent Boult, Richard Gleeson and Ashwani Kumar did the job as Mumbai Indians walked away with a victory. But one has to think what would have happened if Bumrah was not there? It might be the IPL season, but the pacer is well aware that he needs to be at his best ever if India is to win their first Test series in England since 2007. Bumrah might not play all the five Tests but he can change the tide around even if he plays three matches.

MI Star Hails Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey After Emphatic Win Over GT In Eliminator

Mumbai Indians' (MI) young talent Ashwani Kumar outlined his plan of attack on Mullanpur's flat turf after being introduced as an impact substitute during their high-stakes Eliminator fixture against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ashwani, a young left-arm quick, is among the talents unearthed by MI scouts and has continued to prove why Mumbai has had his back throughout the season. During Mumbai's attempt to defend the imposing 228/5, Gujarat responded boldly and clobbered MI bowlers relentlessly to stay close to the asking rate at the halfway stage with 106/2 on the board. MI captain Hardik Pandya and the team management were forced to dish out a game-defining move to sway the game's flow in their favour. Moments before the 11th over, Ashwani Kumar was introduced as an impact substitute in place of seasoned opener Rohit Sharma, offering Mumbai another pace bowling option for the second half of the innings. The 23-year-old was straightaway handed the ball to create an impact in the 12th over. He defused Gujarat's attempts to stage a boundary fest and saved 21 runs in the last three balls of the final over after Richard Gleeson was unable to finish off his over. Ashwani spilt the beans about the conversations behind the field and admitted that using a spinner as an impact substitute was on the cards. But once he was picked out, coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey offered valuable insights to help him thrive. "The talk was about bowling carefully. The wicket was flat. We might have included a spinner. But then I was introduced as the impact player. Malinga sir and Paras (Mhambrey) sir helped me with ideas," Ashwani said after the match. Ashwani reaped the rewards for his hard work after forcing Shahrukh Khan to dispatch the ball straight into the hands of Suryakumar Yadav at extra cover in the final over and returned with figures of 1/28 in 3.3 overs. "I was focusing on my plan. And bowled to my strengths. I just didn't want to bowl a wide or a no-ball while bowling the last three balls," he concluded. The story of Mumbai's 20-run triumph against the Titans began with a relentless 81-run onslaught from Rohit and finishing touches from Hardik that lifted Mumbai to 228/6. Gujarat responded boldly with Sai Sudharsan carrying the Titans on his back with his 80(49) blitzkrieg, but eventually gave in to the pressure, allowing Mumbai to seal a date with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on Sunday. ‘Lost the battle, not the war': Shreyas confident of comeback after 8-wicket thrashing in Qualifier 1

'We have lost the battle, but not the war' — these were straightforward words which came out from Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer after his team was bashed by eight wickets in the Indian Premier League 2025 Qualifier 1 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Thursday night. Batting first, PBKS, which finished first on the points table first time since 2014, imploded against a potent RCB attack led by Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood in the Powerplay. Opener Priyansh Arya fell in just the second over before Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed the other opener, Prabhsimran Singh. Hazlewood picked two big scalps of skipper Iyer and in-form Josh Inglis. Eventually, PBKS were bundled out for just 101 in 14.1 overs before RCB romped home chasing the target with 10 overs to remain. Even though PBKS lost the match vs RCB, the Iyer-led PBKS are still not out of the tournament. They will play the winner of the Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians match in the second Qualifier. 'Not a day to forget, but got to go back to the drawing board. We lost a lot of wickets (in the first innings). There's a lot to go back to and study,' said Iyer after the loss. Iyer said he is not going to bother about his decision-making and PBKS failed to execute the planning, which seemed to be spot-on ahead of the game. 'I am not doubting my decisions to be honest. Whatever we did in terms of planning, outside of the ground whatever (planning) we did, I think it was on point. Just that we couldn't execute it on the field,' he said. 'Can't even blame the bowlers, as it was a low total to defend. We've got to work on our batting, especially on this wicket. In all the games we have played here, there has been some variable bounce,' he added. 'We can't give such reasons because we are professionals at the end of the day, and we have to bat according to the situation and we have to live up to it,' said Iyer.
