iGA recognises trailblazers in Tech Innovation
TDT| Manama iGA launches eGovernment Excellence Award 2025 The Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has announced the opening of submissions for the 13th edition of the eGovernment Excellence Award, a national competition recognising digital innovation across public, private, and non-profit sectors. Entries will be accepted from Wednesday until June 28 via the official award platform Participants are invited to showcase their best practices, platforms, applications, and ICT initiatives that advance digital transformation. Diverse categories This year's awards span multiple categories, including Best Website, Best Practice in eParticipation, Best Integrated eServices, and Best Applications for Smart Devices. Other honours include Best Project for Digital Transformation, Best Utilisation of Artificial Intelligence, and Best Work Environment for Digital Innovation. A Citizen Award also invites individuals to submit creative digital ideas or initiatives that enhance eServices or improve access and usability for the public. Submissions must be new entries that did not win in the 2023 edition. Focus on innovation iGA officials noted that the awards reflect the Kingdom's commitment to fostering a culture of digital excellence and innovation. The Best AI Utilisation category, for example, highlights how organisations use artificial intelligence to enhance operations. Similarly, the Best Work Environment for Digital Innovation award celebrates policies and internal cultures that enable creative, future-ready solutions in institutions. Private sector entities and NGOs can compete in the Smart Devices App category, in support of the national initiative to streamline digital services across the MyGov, AlTajir, and Bahrain mobile applications. A dedicated information session will be held soon for interested applicants, with the date and venue to be announced by the iGA. Participants are encouraged to review eligibility criteria and category requirements on the award site before submission.

Commitment to quality, efficient public service
His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) and Chairman of the Government Service Centres Evaluation Committee, emphasised the importance of recognising excellence in public service delivery. He noted that the recent recognition of top-performing government service centres under the fifth cycle of the Government Service Centres Evaluation Programme, 'Taqyeem 5,' marks a significant step in enhancing the quality and efficiency of government services. Al Qaed highlighted that His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, awarded Gold classification to outstanding service centres and Platinum classification to remote service centres, reflecting his ongoing commitment to promoting excellence in government performance and embedding it across all national development pathways. The iGA chief noted that government entities place great importance on adopting performance excellence, particularly in developing national talent, improving procedures, embracing innovative methods, and adhering to global best practices that contribute to providing high-quality government services and enhancing the customer experience.

TDT | Manama The Chief Executive of Bahrain's Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, has praised the Prime Minister's Fellowship Programme as a key driver of national leadership development. Speaking during a meeting with the programme's 10th intake yesterday, Al Qaed said the initiative reflects the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to nurture future leaders who can deliver excellence across government sectors under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Al Qaed described the fellowship as a model for building young Bahraini talent and equipping them with the skills and technical expertise required for the modern government sector. Goals He encouraged participants to focus on developing leadership qualities and innovative thinking to contribute to the programme's goals. The fellowship, part of Bahrain's wider Vision 2030 framework, aims to prepare future leaders who can apply data-driven approaches and creative solutions to meet emerging challenges and drive national progress. Al Qaed also shared updates on iGA's latest digital transformation projects designed to improve government service delivery. These include the launch of the MyGov app for unified service access, the upgraded eKey 2.0 app, the rollout of an enhanced national ID card, new self-service centres and the iGA Innovation Center.

Bahrain economy grows
Bahrain's economy grew by 2.6% in real terms yearon-year (YoY) in 2024, supported by continued expansion and diversification efforts, according to preliminary data released by the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA). The report highlights a 3.8% growth in non-oil economic activities, which offset a 4.0% contraction in oil-related sectors. In nominal terms, the Kingdom's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 2.0% YoY, with non-oil sectors expanding by 3.3% and oil activities declining by 5.8%. The report also noted a 5.7% YoY increase in inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock, reaching BD17.3 billion in 2024. Global competitiveness In terms of global competitiveness, Bahrain achieved notable rankings. It placed first in the Arab world in the Business Perception Indicator in the Milken Institute's Global Opportunities Index 2025, and ranked seventh globally in the Islamic Finance Development Report 2024 published by the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector and the London Stock Exchange. Additionally, Manama was listed in the Smart Cities Index 2025, issued by the International Institute for Management Development's (IMD) World Competitiveness Center, ranking 36th out of 146 cities, surpassing several major global cities.

According to preliminary data released by the Information and eGovernment Authority, Bahrain's economy grew by 2.6% YoY in real terms in 2024. This growth was supported by a 3.8% increase in the non-oil activities, while oil activities experienced a decline of 4.0% YoY. In nominal terms, the GDP rose by 2.0% YoY, with non-oil activities growing by 3.3% YoY and oil activities decreasing by 5.8% YoY. The report highlighted the key role of non-oil activities in driving economic growth. The continued expansion and diversification of the economy accounted for the increase in the non-oil sector's contribution to GDP to 86.0% in 2024.
