Mystery woman emerges from the deep
Viral escape: The woman crawling out of a storm drain in Manila. — Photo taken from social media A woman was seen crawling out of a storm drain on a busy street in Manila's main financial district in a scene straight out of a horror movie about a deep well-dwelling, spectral serial killer. Images that have gone viral in the Philippines show a lithe, young woman pulling herself out of the drain at around 5pm on Monday at a street corner in Makati city. Her dress and denim shorts were caked with grime, and her hair was long, unwashed and streaked with dirt and dried leaves. As she made her way out of the drain, her head turned to the man taking her photos. She smiled and, after crawling out of the hole, ran towards him as a motorist wearing a military-style uniform chased her. 'She ran past me, the military guy in pursuit. Pedestrians, motorcyclists, and even the traffic enforcer, just stood there, stunned, confused, maybe even a little amused,' William, who posted the woman's photos on his Instagram account under the name iammrthirty, told online magazine His photos have been seen by close to two million viewers on YouTube and Facebook. William, an amateur street photographer, said the hole the woman crawled out of was wider than the typically narrow storm drain. 'The catch area of the canal was relatively spacious (almost as big as some rooms for rent in the city) ... Even closer, you could see a pipe on the bottom of the catch, a pipe big enough for humans to crawl through,' he told He said he went back a day later and saw city officials and security guards repaving the street corner where the storm drain was. He said they told him they did not know where the pipe where the woman hid in leads to. — The Straits Times/ANN

Miami Beach man coerces 15-year-old neighbor with drugs and money for sex: cops
A 29-year-old Miami Beach man used drugs and money to attract a 15-year-old neighbor and coerce her into sex multiple times, cops say. He was cuffed on Saturday. On May 17, the 15-year-old's parents called Miami Beach police, reporting their daughter had been sexually abused by Christian Gonzalez Lopez, a neighbor, an arrest report read. An interview with the young teen revealed that a few months ago, Gonzalez Lopez approached her while she was walking in the neighborhood and asked for her Instagram, which she gave, the report read. That same day, he sent her pictures of lingerie and asked if she'd take pictures in them for money — she ignored him. Sometime later, she messaged him asking for the drug Tusi, a type of cocaine, the report read. Gonzalez Lopez said he agreed to provide it, but not only for money — sex, too. This exchange happened several times. Police noted the teen had a 'drug dependency' and on some other occasions, he would give her $100 to have sex. In one instance, she told detectives she thought he would record her during the sexual abuse. On Saturday, the teen confirmed Gonzalez Lopez was the man who was giving her money for sex over several months, the report read. He was promptly arrested on an unrelated disturbance call that day. He was charged with human trafficking, seduce a child to commit any illegal act, lewd and lascivious battery on a child, induce a child to perform an act that causes a child to become dependent and illegal delivery of controlled substances to minors. Gonzalez Lopez was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained as of Wednesday night.

Myrtle Beach businesses feel tariffs' effects; Chamber of Commerce may offer resources to members
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — As tariffs on imports continue to affect Myrtle Beach businesses, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce asked its member businesses on Tuesday if they need more help navigating the changes. The Chamber sent out a survey to its member businesses to see if the Chamber needs to give those businesses more educational resources to better handle tariffs' effects. News13 spoke to the owner of Maz Fresco Supermarket, which is not a Chamber member business. It is scheduled to open in two weeks. The owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, says tariffs have not yet affected the supermarket. However, he is worried that may change and impact the store's success. 'As a grocery store, we want to be able to bring the best price to the market,' the owner of Maz Fresco said. 'By that being in place, it would actually change the pricing, which would hurt the customers and us because people won't buy anything.' He also says he cannot stock up on his products from Mexico and Latin America because they will not last. 'Our cookies and anything else other than canned goods only has about a month, a month-and-a-half-worth of shelf life,' the owner said. 'So, you can't really sit there and stock a lot of things because we don't have the space to stock things like that.' News13 also spoke to the owner of Asian Mart, another non-member business. Sak Yiengjuntuek said the market gets many of its products from China and Japan. Unlike Maz Fresco, Asian Mart can stock up. Therefore, its customers can pay the same prices, even if tariffs increase. But when suppliers raise their prices, Yiengjuntuek says he needs to do the same. 'Sometimes suppliers, they change my price,' he said. 'I have to do, probably, a 2% to 5% increase. That's the most that I can do right now because I don't want to hurt the customers and local community here.' The U.S. currently has a 25% tariff on Mexican imports and a 20% tariff on Chinese imports. * * * Skylar Musick is a multimedia journalist at News13. Skylar is originally from Long Island, New York.
