Incredible video shows trucker come within inches of Final Destination-style backhoe death
A truck driver in Idaho narrowly escaped a terrifying backhoe death after a semi-truck slammed into a bridge just feet in front of her. Tabitha Farely, 27, was driving down Interstate 15 transporting portable toilets to an event in Fort Hall when she slammed on the brakes, as harrowing footage showed the close call with a backhoe. The MVP Rentals employee's dashcam footage captured the moment the truck in front hit the bridge, causing a giant dust cloud to erupt and a rogue backhoe to flip onto the roadway in front of her. 'I heard the noise before I saw the dust. Once I saw the dust, I knew that I was having a bridge come down on me,' Farley told East Idaho News. 'The only thing I could think of was, "Don't lose the Porta Potties."' The semi-truck, driven by a 36-year-old man from New Plymouth, that was seen in front of Farley was transporting two backhoes southbound as it collided with the Porterville Road Bridge. As the truck made impact with the bridge, one of the backhoes that clipped the bridge came off the truck and landed in the median. 'You can't see it in the footage, but [the backhoe] does a cartwheel above [my truck],' Farley said. 'I could see it up in the air before it actually came down in front of the truck.' Farley drove under the bridge, coming to a stop within just feet of part of the backhoe hanging over the road. A second semi-truck, that was two cars behind Farley, hauling more backhoes also crashed into the bridge just seconds later, according to an Idaho State Police news release. Fortunately, the trucker had watched a video on what to do if a driver crashes in front of you on the highway just the night before. 'It said to drive as if you were in the snow. Pump your brakes, don't slam on them, because you'll cause an accident behind you,' Farley said. She added that the driver behind her responded to the incident well, sparing further incidents from occurring at the scene. 'There was a little pickup behind me, which I'm thankful he knew how to drive, because I had a long trailer behind me,' Farley added. Despite the terrifying near miss, Farley was able to get to the event on time and believed her employer's training helped her manage the situation. 'Just mind what you're doing. Don't be on your phone, don't be looking down. There are so many drivers that I see that are just, on the daily, looking at something other than the road,' she added. 'If I wasn't looking at the road, it could have been very bad.' The roadway reopened at around 11pm on Tuesday, while repairs on the bridge are underway, the outlet reported.

Brightline West continues field work in High Desert for its high-speed rail project
Brightline West officials announced updates to field investigation work for its planned $12 billion Las Vegas to Southern California high-speed rail project. Field work will begin this week within the rail corridor along the Interstate 15 right-of-way on the California side of the project. The announcement came over a year after Brightline West hosted a groundbreaking for its high-speed rail system in Las Vegas in April 2024. Since then, the company has conducted a number of field investigations along the route, which have included geotechnical borings and samplings, utility potholing and land surveying. Brightline West's 218-mile high-speed rail system will be constructed in the middle of Interstate 15, with a flagship passenger station in Las Vegas and stops in Apple Valley, Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga. Field investigation work will take place primarily during daytime hours with some work at night to minimize disruption to traffic. In some instances, short-term closures of freeway shoulders will be required. Barstow tourism summit sparks buzz: Is Inland Empire the next big travel destination? All work will be done in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and coordination with Caltrans. Motorists should proceed with caution through work zones and adhere to posted detour signs, speed limits and other signage, company officials stated. Dates and times are subject to change. These operations are weather-dependent. Field investigation locations include: Nipton Road and I-15: Geotechnical boring will be performed at night on the southbound interior shoulder of the I-15 freeway at Nipton Road. The work will be performed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Thursday, June 19. The I-15 southbound lane No. 1 will be closed during this work. Mojave River and I-15: Geotechnical boring will be performed adjacent to the exterior shoulders of the I-15 freeway, in the Mojave River drainage area from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20. Halloran Summit Road and I-15: Pavement coring will be performed at night on the northbound interior shoulder of the I-15 freeway, 3 miles north of Halloran Summit Road from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday, June 20. Yates Wells Road and I-15: Potholing will be performed in the center median of the I-15, at the interchanges between Yates Wells Road and Alvord Mountain Road between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Wednesday, June 18 through Friday, June 20. Glen Helen Parkway and I-15: Infiltration tests will be performed at night on the southbound off-ramp gore area of the I-15 freeway at Glen Helen Parkway from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 19. Devore and Barstow: Infiltration tests will be performed on the shoulders and gore areas of the I-15 freeway in Devore and Barstow from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20. In February, Nevada Department of Transportation officials were told by Brightline that construction of the project would begin within the next two months. During that time, Nevada Department of Transportation Senior Project Manager Eric Scheetz explained that before construction, his agency must have proof that Brightline West has financing established for the $12 billion project. Scheetz added that when work begins, it will launch about three years of heavy civil construction that will include bridges, freeway overpass crossings, train stations and other infrastructure. Once that is completed, train rails will be installed, with construction expected to take four years before the project is ready to take on passengers, Scheetz said. With a top speed of up to 200 miles per hour, the high-speed trains will take passengers from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga in about two hours, company officials stated. Motorhome fire causes major delays on I-15 in Kaysville
KAYSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — A motorhome fire on I-15 in Kaysville caused the freeway to temporarily close down in both directions. According to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), a pickup truck was hauling a camper on a trailer traveling southbound on I-15. Around mile marker 326, the driver pulled over after he noticed smoke coming from the camper trailer. Due to on-board propane tanks, the fire began to engulf both vehicles. UHP closed down both directions of traffic temporarily due to the risk of the fire spreading, but lanes have since reopened as crews work to remove debris. Mystery as Utah girl, 16, is ran over and killed by semi-truck on busy highway
A 16-year-old girl tragically died after she was run over by a semi-truck on a busy highway in Utah. Jessica Santiago, of St. George, was walking along Interstate 15 early Friday all by herself when she was mowed down by the large truck around 6.30am, police said. At the time of the horrible incident, no other vehicle was found nearby, suggesting that Jessica was on foot, Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol told St. George News. The unidentified truck driver was not injured in the crash, Roden added. It remains unclear why the teenager ended up on the freeway and why she was walking in the southbound lanes, but according to her brother, she 'stepped out of the home' the night before while her family slept. When they woke in the morning, Jessica was nowhere to be found so her concerned loved ones reported her missing to the police before hearing of the crash, her brother, Omar Santiago, told the outlet. Omar said he and the rest of the family do not know why his younger sister would have left the house, especially after everyone was asleep for the night. 'All we know is that, when we woke up, she wasn't home. We don't know how she got on that side of the freeway or what happened exactly. 'We just have as many questions as the investigators do. We're unsure how everything unraveled.' Omar said his late sister 'was not suicidal' and did not 'leave a note or anything' behind. 'She was a light in our home who will be dearly missed,' he said, adding that Jessica was 'a hard worker who cared about all of those around her.' A family member also created a GoFundMe page to help support her grieving family during this time. 'Jessica was a bright, kind, and beautiful soul who brought joy and light to everyone who knew her,' the organizer wrote. 'Whether it was her infectious laughter, her gentle spirit, or her passion for music, art, and most of all, helping others. Jessica left a lasting impact on all our lives.' 'She was a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a beacon of hope. Her time with us, though far too short, was filled with love, compassion, and unforgettable memories.' As of Wednesday afternoon, more than $4,500 was raised. A public funeral mass is set to be held Saturday at St. George Catholic Church before Jessica's remains are sent to a final resting place in Mexico. Another service will be held for her on June 16, according to the donation page. contacted the Utah Highway Patrol for more information on the investigation. Soon after the crash, the road was shut down for a bit before authorities let vehicles back on. While they slowly re-opened the highway, a second crash took place involving three vehicles, per the outlet. Those involved suffered several minor injuries. One person had to be transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, according to authorities.
