Lotto player bags huge sum after purchasing winning ticket 'in the nick of time'

A lucky Lotto player has revealed how a quick dash to the shop to pick up some Friday night snacks lead to them landing a life-changing EuroMillionsprize. The Limerick man had dropped in to Moloney's Daybreak in Carrigkerry, Athea, on Friday, May 9, to grab some refreshments for his family when he decided to purchase a ticket for the EuroMillions draw being held that night. It proved to be a life-changing decision for the Limerick player as he scooped a whopping €255,000 in the special EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle being run throughout the month of May. The EuroMillions player was one of 10 winners of the Ireland Only Raffle in the May 9 draw. And while that prize is usually worth €5,000, the National Lottery has added an additional prize of €250,000 for one winner of the Ireland-Only Raffle for all nine EuroMillions draws during the month of May. The Limerick winner made the trip to Lotto HQ in Dublin this week to collect his prize, where he revealed how he purchased the all-important winning ticket "just in the nick of time". 'I was just grabbing a few bits for the family when I asked the shop assistant if I was too late for a EuroMillions ticket' the winner recalled. 'She told me I was just in the nick of time, and that ticket turned out to be the big one!' His partner shared a laugh in the Winners Room, 'It's funny because all weekend he kept joking, asking if I thought he might have the winning ticket. We heard it was won in Limerick, but he kept putting off checking it!' Now €255,000 richer, the couple plan to put their new-found fortune towards building a new family home. 'It's been a long journey, but this win means we can finally move things along," the Limerick player said. "We're over the moon, and it still doesn't feel real!' Meanwhile, EuroMillions players are in with a chance to win a jaw-dropping €200 million jackpot in Tuesday night's draw. And that's not all, as two guaranteed €250,000 prizes are still waiting to be won in the final draws of the EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle this May. Players dreaming of becoming Ireland's newest EuroMillions winner are reminded that tickets for tonight's draw can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or at ahead of the 7.30pm cut off.
