Cameroon joins Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition

The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition announced that Cameroon has officially joined, becoming the 43rd member state of the coalition, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The step underscores a growing commitment to combating terrorism and fostering regional and international security and stability, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday. The announcement was made during an official ceremony at the coalition's headquarters in Riyadh, where the flag of Cameroon was raised alongside the flags of the 42 member states; a powerful symbol of unity and solidarity in the fight against terrorism. The event was attended by Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, acting secretary-general of the IMCTC, Iya Tidjani, Cameroon's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the Cameroonian representative to the coalition, a delegation from Cameroon's embassy, and representatives of member states. Al-Moghedi welcomed Cameroon's admission to the coalition, describing it as a significant step that strengthens joint efforts to combat terrorism and enhances coordination and integration in the intellectual, media, financial, and military fields.

RIYADH: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition has launched a training program in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, titled 'Countering Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering,' aimed at curbing terrorism financing operations. Cote d'Ivoire's Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization Ibrahim Kalil Konate and the coalition's secretary-general, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghedi, attended the event, the Saudi Press Agency reported. This strategic initiative, the first of its kind in Abidjan, seeks to enhance the capabilities of participants from relevant institutions in addressing terrorism financing and money-laundering challenges. The program features intensive courses and workshops led by international experts, covering international laws on combating money laundering and terrorism financing, the SPA reported. Earlier, Brig. Gen. Alah Kouame Joseph, commander of the International Academy for Counter-Terrorism, welcomed Al-Moghedi and his delegation in Abidjan. Both sides discussed areas of mutual cooperation in counterterrorism, the SPA said. Al-Moghedi was briefed on the academy's training capabilities, educational resources and technical expertise in providing a high-level response to terrorist threats.

The event was attended by the coalition's assistant military commander, Air Force Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Qurashi, as well as member state representatives and coalition personnel, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Chaired by Abdullah Al-Dawah, director of monitoring and analysis at the Intellectual Affairs Department, the symposium emphasized the day's role in enhancing global efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideology while fostering peace and tolerance. Al-Dawah explained that the symposium serves to address the complex drivers of extremism, explore preventive measures, and highlight the crucial roles of community awareness and global cooperation. In the first session, Yahya Abu Maghayed, director of preventive programs at the Intellectual Affairs Department, examined extremism's dynamic nature and stressed the need for increased public awareness. He discussed factors driving its spread and indicators of violent radicalization, such as violence justification, conspiracy theory adoption, and participation in social unrest. The second session featured Col. Malik Al-Farrayeh, Jordan's representative to the Islamic coalition, who highlighted the importance of public education on extremist ideology risks. He emphasized that prevention begins with promoting moderate religious values while rejecting hardline ideas. Al-Farrayeh also noted the critical role of educational and media institutions in promoting tolerance and moderation. He stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to prevent extremism from evolving into a security threat. The event concluded with recommendations to strengthen community oversight, reinforce moderate values, and address extremism's root causes. Participants underscored the need for coordinated international action to combat this phenomenon and protect communities from its impact.

UN, Islamic Coalition Sign Strategic Partnership to Counter Terrorist Threats

The Secretariat General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday to strengthen their partnership in countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism conducive to terrorism. The MoU, signed at the UN headquarters in New York, aims to bolster international efforts against terrorism and promote global security and stability. The partnership was signed by Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, and Vladimir Voronkov, UN Under Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, during a meeting. Al-Moghedi emphasized that the MoU highlights the coalition's commitment to combating terrorism and enhancing international cooperation for global security. Working with the UN will facilitate the exchange of expertise and strengthen member states' abilities to address security challenges effectively, he added. The MoU outlines strategic cooperation in areas such as specialized law enforcement training and tailored technical assistance to member states. It also focuses on organizing capacity-building training programs, exploring best practices, as well as organizing meetings, joint projects and activities on issues of common interest.
