Foreign Speakers Need Special Accreditation To Deliver Talks In Perak

IPOH, May 5 (Bernama) -- Foreign speakers need to obtain special accreditation from the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah before they can deliver talks or hold educational and knowledge-based programmes in the state. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said that conditions for delivering Islamic teachings in the state also take into account the speaker's knowledge, experience, and personal character. 'For example, we recently invited Dr Abdul Somad Batubara, also known as Ustaz Abdul Somad, to give a talk in Lenggong. Although he did not possess accreditation from Perak, we issued a special accreditation to allow him to deliver the talk,' he said. 'We are not overly rigid - as long as the speaker is qualified, capable, and has received consent from His Royal Highness (Sultan Nazrin), then there is no issue,' he said at a press conference after launching the distribution of kitab (religious books) for mosques, Friday surau, across Perak, today. Saarani said that the certification serves as a mechanism to regulate and ensure that religious teachings are delivered accurately and in a manner that benefits the community. Commenting on today's programme, Saarani said that three selected books - Qalbun Salim, Sifat 20: Suatu Pengenalan Asas and Mutiara Minhajul Abidin - will be distributed to 740 mosques and surau across the state. He said the books, authored by Muhadir Haji Joll and Raja Ahmad Mukhlis Raja Jamaluddin, were selected for their clear and accessible language, suitable content, and balanced emphasis on both 'aqidah' and 'tasawwuf'. 'These books can be used by imams in mosques and surau to share religious knowledge with congregants, during the time between Maghrib and Isyak prayers each day. 'This approach is seen as simple, practical, and effective, while also helping to overcome challenges, such as the high cost of organising large-scale religious gatherings,' he said.

JKR awaits Fire Dept clearance for dorm fire technical checks

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Department (JKR) is still awaiting official clearance from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department before proceeding with any technical assessments at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tinggi Setapak dormitory block, which was damaged by a fire last Monday. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that, according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs), the Fire and Rescue Department must first complete the initial investigation to determine the cause of the fire and ensure the area's safety before any further action can be taken. 'Only after that will any technical agencies, including JKR, be permitted to enter and conduct further assessments of the building's structure and safety aspects. 'I assure you that as soon as the Fire and Rescue Department gives the green light, the JKR's technical team will promptly visit the site to carry out a thorough inspection,' he said in a Facebook post today. Nanta added that the assessment is crucial to determine the extent of the damage and to propose the necessary repair or reconstruction measures. He said that his ministry will continue to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Education and all relevant agencies to ensure that the welfare and safety of both students and school staff remain a top priority. 'I am fully aware of, and deeply sympathise with this incident. Incidents like this are truly concerning, particularly when they involve the safety of students, teachers, and school staff. I am grateful that no casualties were reported,' he said, adding that the incident was one of the key topics discussed at his ministry's Post-Cabinet meeting, today. On Monday, the media reported that a dormitory block at SMK Tinggi Setapak, which accommodates 91 male students, was engulfed in fire, destroying 80 per cent of the building. Fortunately, all students were reported safe, as they were in the school's surau awaiting the Isyak prayer at the time of the incident.

Fadhlina: MOE Arranges New Accommodation For Students Affected By SMK Tinggi Setapak Fire

PUTRAJAYA, April 29 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Education (MOE) has made arrangements for temporary accommodation for students displaced by the fire that broke out at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tinggi Setapak dormitory in Kuala Lumpur last night, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. She said the temporary accommodation was crucial to ensure the continuity of learning for students who rely entirely on hostel facilities, as many face difficulties commuting from home to school. 'While the relocation process is being arranged, parents have expressed their commitment to sending their children to school,' she added. 'As an alternative for temporary placement, several options are being considered. We may relocate students to the nearest dormitory, and we also have teacher quarters located directly opposite the affected dormitory - which appears to be one of the most viable solutions,' she told reporters after officiating the 56th MOE-MSSM-MILO Sports Awards 2024 here today. Fadhlina added that, for the time being, teaching and learning will be conducted online, with textbooks and other school supplies provided to all affected students. The media reported that a fire broke out in a dormitory block at SMK Tinggi Setapak, which houses 91 male students, last night. Fortunately, all students were reported safe as they were in the school's surau at the time, waiting to perform the Isyak prayer. Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Japari Tajuddin, in a statement, said that the fire primarily affected the first floor of the dormitory and caused 80 per cent damage. Earlier today, Fadhlina, in a Facebook post, assured that prompt assistance would be provided to SMK Tinggi Setapak following the incident. She also confirmed that no students or teachers were injured and instructed that repair works be carried out without delay. -- BERNAMA
