‘Why are Kannadigas being punished?' Siddaramaiah slams Goa CM Pramod Sawant over Mahadayi dispute

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly criticised Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over his recent comments on the Mahadayi river water project, calling them an "insult" to the people of Karnataka. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Siddaramaiah lashed out at both the Goa government and the Centre, accusing them of betraying the interests of the state and questioning the silence of Karnataka BJP and JD(S) leaders. : Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah addressing a press conference, in New Delhi, Thursday, July 10(PTI) Also Read - Explosives found at Bengaluru bus stand trigger heightened security, probe on: Report Take a look at the post Reacting sharply to Sawant's remarks in the Goa Assembly, where the Goa CM claimed that Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav had assured him that the Mahadayi project would not be cleared under any circumstance, Siddaramaiah questioned the Centre's lack of formal communication to Karnataka. 'Is this how federalism functions under BJP? Through backdoor sabotage, silence and betrayal?' he posted. 'What wrong have Kannadigas done? Are we being punished for not surrendering to the BJP?' The Mahadayi river dispute, which has lingered for decades, centres around Karnataka's demand to draw water from the river to meet drinking water needs in its northern districts. Siddaramaiah made it clear that the Mahadayi project is not a luxury, but a necessity — one intended to provide drinking water to over 40 lakh people across Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Bagalkot and surrounding areas. Also Read - 'Stop spreading Bengaluru hate…': Reddit users clash over traffic-related posts 'Despite the 2018 tribunal ruling awarding Karnataka 13.42 TMC of water, the Centre is colluding with the Goa government to stall our rights,' he alleged, adding that the project was being treated not as a basic lifeline but as a political bargaining chip. He further said Karnataka would continue its legal, political, and moral battle until it secures its fair share of water. Siddaramaiah also condemned leaders from Karnataka's BJP and JD(S), accusing them of failing to raise their voices against the Centre's stance and Goa's opposition. 'Their silence today will be remembered tomorrow,' he warned. Echoing the Chief Minister's criticism, Karnataka's Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil also objected to Sawant's statements, calling them 'shocking'. He questioned how such assurances could be made unofficially without taking Karnataka into confidence.

Mysuru: JD(S) MLC CN Manjegowda on Tuesday remembered the contributions of 12th century Vachanakara Hadapada Appanna for his philosophical insights. He was speaking after inaugurating the Hadapada Appanna Jayanthi celebrations organised by the department of Kannada and culture at Kirurangamandir in the city. He said that Hadapada Appanna was also a close associate of social reformer Basavanna and took forward his Sharana movement to build a discrimination-free society. Hadapada Appanna also contributed to the 12th century social revolution. He served as general secretary of Anubhava Mantapa, the religious parliament formed by Basavanna, promoting open debate represented by prominent Sharanas involved in the Sharana and Vachanakara movement. Hadapada Appanna's wife, Lingamma, also wrote 250 vachanas. Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa, who also spoke on the occasion, urged the most backward communities to give importance to education to come to the mainstream of society. Writer Kiran Sidlehalli wanted the govt to initiate economic empowerment to provide reservation for microscopic most backward communities for their upliftment. Joint director of Kannada and culture VM Mallikarjunaswamy, assistant director MD Sudarshan, and Mysuru Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Maddikere Gopal were present.

As BJP battles infighting, Nikhil leads JD(S) north Karnataka push

Bengaluru: With the BJP state unit caught in internal disarray and uncertainty over its leadership in Karnataka, its alliance partner Janata Dal (Secular) is wasting no time in seizing the moment. JD(S), led by its youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy, is expanding aggressively into both Kittur and Kalyana Karnataka regions—territories where it once held marginal sway and sees strong revival potential. After launching its state-wide outreach campaign on June 14 in Tumakuru, JD(S) held rallies in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Chitradurga. Thursday, the party marked a key milestone with a massive rally in Badami, a constituency from where chief minister Siddaramaiah won by a narrow margin in 2018 assembly polls. JD(S) functionaries said the Badami rally signals the start of a renewed focus on northern districts such as Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Ballari, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Koppal, and Raichur. With BJP distracted by internal issues, JD(S) appears determined to rebuild its base and emerge as a crucial player ahead of the next assembly elections. Nikhil has reportedly identified 80 winnable assembly seats across the state. The party has already begun shortlisting candidates with the aim of bargaining hard for around 100 seats when NDA seat-sharing talks begin. "It is certain that the JD(S)-BJP alliance will continue, as our leaders HD Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy have made it clear about our goals. While it is important to defeat Congress, we will see to it that NDA is intact and the JD(S) and BJP strive hard to install a pro-people govt by winning the next election," said Nikhil. Meanwhile, BJP—wary of being overshadowed by its junior partner—is planning a Sanghatana Parva campaign to revitalise its organisation. Block-level office-bearers will meet Saturday in Kalaburagi, followed by a similar session in Ballari division. "JD(S) is free to plan programmes to revive its organisational strength. We are just focusing on our strategies... It is too early to talk about the prospects of the alliance with JD(S)," said BJP general secretary P Rajiv.

CM slams BJP-JDS MPs, says they lack courage to question Modi

Mysuru: KarnatakaChief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a scathing attack on the BJP and JD(S) during the 'Sadhana Samavesha' in Mysuru, accusing their MPs of lacking the courage to even stand before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raise their voice against the injustice meted out to Karnataka. Addressing a packed gathering, Siddaramaiah threw an open challenge to BJP and JD(S) leaders to come onto the same stage and debate development. 'Had they been here today, people would have seen who has truly brought development to the state. I am ready to debate anytime — let them come,' he dared. Taking aim at the opposition parties' constant criticism, Siddaramaiah said, 'The BJP and JD(S) should not harbor so much jealousy. If our government was bankrupt as they claim, how could we plan and deliver so many development schemes? This is not my show of strength — it is the strength of our commitment to progress, presented before the people.' Referring to JD(S)'s declining strength, Siddaramaiah recalled that during his tenure as party president, JD(S) won 58 seats, but now it has been reduced to just 18 MLAs. 'JD(S) has grown too weak to come to power on its own — that's why they have aligned with the BJP. Together, they have failed to win the love of the people,' he charged. The Chief Minister further alleged that BJP and JD(S) MPs shiver before Modi and do not dare to question him about the state's rightful share. 'They are spineless before Modi. They don't have the guts to open their mouths. Instead, they mislead people with false claims. They are ashamed because our guarantee schemes have made the poor, Dalits, and minorities happy — that's why they are burning inside,' he quipped. Hitting out at the Prime Minister, Siddaramaiah said, 'Narendra Modi works only for the top 10% of this country. The remaining 90% do not matter to him. But the Congress stands with the poor and Dalits. We follow the ideals of Buddha, Basava, and Ambedkar. The BJP and RSS stand for Manusmriti and are anti-Constitution,' he alleged. Rejecting opposition claims that the Congress government will stop its welfare guarantees, Siddaramaiah clarified, 'The guarantees are permanent. No matter what they say, we will not withdraw them. In fact, the BJP is shamelessly copying our guarantees in other states. Modi ji, does that not embarrass you?' he mocked. With this, Siddaramaiah reaffirmed that his government would continue its guarantees and remain focused on inclusive development, despite the opposition's constant hurdles and accusations.

CM launches Rs 2,578 crore development projects in Mysuru, criticises opposition

1 2 3 Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday launched development projects of Rs 2,578 crore in Mysuru district. The new projects sanctioned to the city include a cancer hospital (Rs 50 crore), an endocrinology hospital (Rs 50 crore), a new building and facilities at the Institute of Nephrology (Rs 125.5 crore), and a new KSRTC bus stand in Banni Mantap (Rs 120 crore). Also, various developmental works of Rs 380.8 crore were implemented in the Mysuru City Corporation limits. These include a construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling plant (Rs 10.6 crore), a material recovery facility (Rs 10.2 crore), a floating dragon boating pond inside the Dasara exhibition grounds at an estimated cost of Rs 3.5 crore, and works of the Centre for Sports Science (Rs 3.5 crore). The CM inaugurated the newly constructed buildings of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hostels for boys and girls. The CM launched these projects in the presence of DCM DK Shivakumar, AICC president Mallikharjun Kharge, and over a dozen cabinet colleagues, including home minister G Parameshwara and energy minister KJ George. Speaking at an event, Siddaramaiah accused the opposition of misleading the public. "The BJP and JD(S) are spreading falsehoods to derail Karnataka's progress. I challenge them to come to a single platform and debate our govt's development works. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? Play this for 1 minute and see why everyone is crazy about it. Play Game Undo I will be there," Siddaramaiah said. He said BJP MPs from the state are afraid to even talk in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He accused the Union govt of denying Karnataka its rightful share in the Centre's taxes. "BJP and JD(S) are neglecting the state's interests. Why don't Union ministers HD Kumaraswamy and Pralhad Joshi, or MP Basavaraja Bommai, demand justice for our state? Their silence is a betrayal," he charged. Siddaramaiah alleged that the BJP never came to power in Karnataka on its own and captured power through the backdoor via Operation Kamala. He also criticised JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy, claiming he never rose to power independently. Siddaramaiah accused the BJP and JD(S) of being envious of Congress' achievements, urging them to set aside petty jealousy. "Today JD(S) became very weak in the state due to its alliance with BJP," he said. Interestingly, even though this convention was widely called a show of strength for CM Siddaramaiah on his home turf, district minister HC Mahadevappa made it clear that it is not a convention called to show one's existence or challenge anyone. "After Mysuru Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru city witnessed developments only under Congress rule—under Siddaramaiah's govt," he claimed.
