Caersws triumph and Guilsfield taste cup shoot-out agony
RHYS Hesden starred with both goals as Caersws celebrated a 2-0 win at home to Brickfield Rangers in JD Cymru North on Saturday. Hesden broke the deadlock with a composed finish past an advancing Robbie Williams just before the break and settled the outcome with five minutes remaining after rounding the visiting No1 to slot home from a tight angle. The second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup took centre stage. Guilsfield handed JD Cymru Premier visitors Bala Town a fright before falling to a 3-1 penalty shoot out defeat at the PRS Recruitment Stadium. The visitors led for much of the first-half after Hussein Mehasseb broke the deadlock only for the villagers to hit back before the break with James Smallwood on target. Iwan Matthews gave the Guils a shock lead with nine minutes remaining but the advantage was shortlived as John Owen struck moments later to force penalties. Newtown were handed a fright before edging a 3-2 win at Buckley Town. A solitary strike from Steffan Jones separated the sides at the break and the Robins doubled their advantage after the interval with Devon Torry on target. A frantic finale saw Luke Mariette reduce the arrears for the home side only for Oliver Sharp to promptly restore Newtown's two goal cushion.

Newtown snap up ex-England schoolboy starlet Theo Ezea
NEWTOWN Football Club manager Nathan Leonard is relishing the forthcoming JD Cymru North season. The ex-Guilsfield boss has been tasked with steadying the ship at Latham Park following last season's relegation from the JD Cymru Premier and Leonard is full of confidence. This week saw ex-England schoolboy international Theo Ezea make the switch from Salop Leisure Premier League club Ellesmere Rangers while winger Tom Jones has joined on loan from JD Cymru Premier champions TNS. Leonard said: "Theo is a great young talent with huge potential while Tom Jones has signed on loan from TNS and will be a massive threat going forward. "There will be two or three more signings before the window closes, we know what we are lacking and the players coming in will push us on further." Leonard insisted nobody at Latham Park would be taking promotion for granted after bookies made the Robins joint-second favourites to win the league. Leonard said: "We are in no doubt how tough the league will be this season but the energy and work rate shown against TNS hasn't been seen at the club for a while now and it's a great base to work from. "Considering we've lost 15 players from last seasons squad I'm really really happy with the group assembled and we have the potential to have a great season."

However, Powys football fans can look forward to a festive derby of sorts when Guilsfield host Penrhyncoch on December 27.
