PH men's tennis team sweeps Davis Cup, gets promoted to Group III
The Philippine Men's National Tennis Team was promoted to Group III of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone as they completed a sweep of the Group IV games in the tournament held last July 16 to 19 in Malaysia. Pooled in Group B with Qatar, Kuwait, and Pacific Oceania, the Philippines finished on top of the group after a perfect 3-0 run. As the group's top finisher, the Philippines faced Group A second placer Kyrgyzstan for one of the slots for promotion. Eventually, the Filipinos won 2-0 in the game to move up to Group III. Aside from the Philippines, Malaysia was also promoted. The Philippine team is composed of AJ Lim, Jed Olivarez, Francis Alcantara, Ruben Gonzales, and Arthur Craig Pantino. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Filipinas grouped with Australia, South Korea, Iran in AFC Women's Asian Cup
The Philippine Women's National Football Team Filipinas will play against Australia, South Korea, and Iran in the AFC Women's Asian Cup in March 2026. The draw for the Asian Cup was held on Tuesday. The Filipinas, along with the three other teams, will form Group A. Australia is ranked 15th in the FIFA Women's world rankings, while South Korea is at 21st. The Philippines is ranked 41st in the world, while Iran is at no. 68. The Asian Cup has three groups, with North Korea, China, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan comprising Group B, while Group C has Japan, Vietnam, India, and Chinese Taipei. Only the top two teams of each group and the two best-ranked third placers will advance to the knockout round. The Asian Cup also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. PH finishes 4th in Mandiri Cup, Otu Banatao named Rising Star
The Philippines had its best finish in the ASEAN U-23 Championship Mandiri Cup as it placed fourth in the tournament recently held in Indonesia. The Philippines went against Thailand in the third place playoff last Monday but fell short, 3-1. Otu Banatao made the country's lone goal at the 79th minute but the Thais were already ahead 2-0 prior to that. Seksan Ratree eventually sealed the victory for Thailand. Prior to the battle for third, the Philippines fell short against Vietnam, 2-1. This is the first time that the Philippines went as far as the semis since the tournament's first edition in 2005. The 18-year old Banatao was also named as the Rising Star of the tournament after his three-goal performance. "I'm honored to have received the Adidas Rising Star Award and I'd like to thank everyone on the team for helping and supporting me throughout the tournament. It's also because of them that I am in this position. This award motivates me to continue to make our country proud and soon, hopefully, earn our first podium finish." PSC officially opens track and field facilities to public
The Philippine Sports Commission officially opened its track and field facilities to the public on Tuesday. This came a day after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.'s State of the Nation Address where he encouraged Filipinos to engage in a healthier lifestyle. In a social media post, the PSC said it has opened its facilities at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, the Philsports Arena Complex in Pasig, and the PSC Teachers' Camp site in Baguio City. The said track and field facilities are open from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. "Kindly note that we are still fine-tuning our operations, but we are happy to welcome you all back to the tracks," it added. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Poy Erram reveals ACL injury
Poy Erram bared that he has sustained an ACL injury, just days after his TNT fell to San Miguel in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup finals last Friday. Erram revealed the development on Sunday as the seasoned big man is expected to be sidelined for some time, leaving the TNT frontcourt with Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Kelly Williams. "With a heavy heart, I share that I've suffered an ACL injury. It's painful, it's frustrating, and I have every reason to be mad," Erram said in a heartfelt post. The 36-year-old Erram hurt his ankle in Game 2, where he still managed to finish with six points, three assists, and two rebounds. He then missed the entire Game 3, but would return in Game 4 and contribute six markers and four boards in almost 19 minutes of action. Erram, though, did not make it again in the next two games as TNT fell short in its grand slam bid with the Beermen closing out the series with a 107-96 Game 6 triumph. Despite the setback, Erram is optimistic that he can still make a comeback. "But I also know that God has a greater plan for setback will only make me stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually.I trust that this journey will bring me even closer to Him," he added.
