Fake call centre busted in Noida, 12 who cheated foreigners held

Noida: A fake call centre operating out of a highrise building in Noida and cheating foreign nationals by luring them with fake loans and gift card vouchers was busted on Monday. Police arrested 12 people, including the kingpin, and recovered several gadgets used in the fraud. Cops said the gang has cheated over 150 people so far. Officials said the call centre had been operating since May 3 from the 17th floor of JP Cosmos building. The gang targeted Americans using phishing emails and extracted money through gift cards on the pretext of processing fees for loans and vouchers. The mastermind, Mustafa Sheikh (25), is a resident of Mumbai. Other arrested accused are Chance (22) of Delhi; Dinesh Pandey (49) of Darjeeling; Sohil Ajmil (27), Kalpesh Sharma (34), and Aftab Qureshi (34) of Ahmedabad; Umar Samsi (44) of Mumbai; Vidov (31) of Manipur; Ram Sevak (27) and Satyanarayan Mandal (35) of Madhubani, Bihar; and Thijno Luto (20) and Nibule Akami (22) of Nagaland. A team led by ACP Twinkle Jain raided the premises on Monday night and arrested 12 people," said DCP (Noida) Yamuna Prasad. During interrogation, Sheikh revealed that he had rented the office space in JP Cosmos for Rs 50,000 per month. He had hired the rest of the accused on salaries ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 40,000. Police recovered 10 laptops, 16 mobile phones, nine laptop chargers, nine headphones, five keyboards, five computer mice, an internet router, and an iPhone charger from the unit.
