Mitch Evans on his Berlin win after a frustrating wait: "It's been a really tough few months"

Mitch Evans (Image credit: Instagram) Formula E Season 11 seems to have turned out special and interesting for most of the drivers. Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans had started the season on a high by clinching the first E-Prix win in Sao Paulo, but in the following races throughout the season, the New Zealander couldn't even come close to the podium in any of the next 10 races. He has now opened up about finally closing the year on a high after clinching his second win of the season at the Berlin E-Prix. Mitch Evans on finally ending his streak of bad luck in Berlin It was unusual to see Mitch Evans failing to finish in the top 10 in any of the ten races that followed his victory in Sao Paulo. He won the first race of the season but was among the last finishers in the next 10 races. Mitch Evans simply wrote on Instagram after his much-awaited win in Berlin: 'Victory. Amazing day — pole + win in tricky conditions. Thanks to all the boys and girls at @jaguarracing.' The happy pictures of the driver lifting the winner's trophy, planting a kiss on it, and celebrating with the team — including teammate Nick Cassidy — said it all. The Jaguar driver opened up about the tough six months that had him finishing near the back of the field. Talking to after finally clinching his second win in Berlin, he said, "It's been a really tough few months, and it felt like I couldn't do anything right. I kept having problems; performance wasn't quite there, and qualifying was just too rapid, so I had to keep it together. Obviously, in the race, it was changeable conditions. I think the team really managed the strategy well. I had some problems after the pit stop, which allowed Pascal (Wehrlein) to get closer to me.' "So once it happened, I thought I might have to stop in the race, and I was just kind of like, well, that just sums up my season. Luckily, I was able to juggle both things and bring them home, but it just wasn't expected. I'm just very happy for my side of the garage, for the team — you know, it's been a good day for what's been a really difficult season," he added. Berlin E-Prix winner Mitch Evans becomes Formula E's joint-most successful driver, ties with this driver

Image credit: Formula E As Mitch Evans crossed the finish line at the Berlin E-Prix on Saturday, the Jaguar TCS Racing driver joked on the radio with his team that they might have to remind him where the podium was. He said he had forgotten after such a long wait for a win — or even a podium. Evans had won the Formula E Round 1 race in Sao Paulo in December, but since then, he had failed to finish in the top ten in any of the following 11 races. Mitch Evans' radio footage from Berlin E-Prix Formula E later shared the radio footage of Evans on X. As his team congratulated him, he replied, 'Feels like it's been a lifetime. I forgot where the podium is, so you might have to tell me.' Reacting to a video of his win on Instagram, a fan wrote, 'Screaming & crying!!! What an absolutely phenomenal drive!!! Such a talented driver!' View this post on Instagram A post shared by ColorsTV (@colorstv) Speaking about his win at the Tempelhof Airport Circuit on Saturday, Evans said, 'I wasn't expecting that today. It's been difficult for us since São Paulo. There were tricky conditions, and I was managing some issues with the brakes towards the end of the race, which wasn't easy. I was quite happy with a bit of a gap, but nonetheless, the car was competitive throughout the race and there were some good strategy calls from the team. My guys did so well. There's always some work to do, but this is a nice reward for everyone back at Jaguar TCS Racing.' Evans had secured pole position in the qualifying session. The Duels were cancelled due to rain, so the grid was determined based on the results of the group stage. Mitch Evans has 14 wins in Formula E Formula E later announced that Evans is now tied for the most wins in the championship's history. He and Sebastien Buemi both have 14 career victories. Reacting to the post, a fan wrote, '14 and counting! Congratulations Mitch, many more wins to come.' Another wrote, 'History created in style.' REUTERS/Peter Cziborra/File Photo BERLIN - Jaguar's Mitch Evans won the first of two Formula E races in Berlin on Saturday as Nissan's Oliver Rowland failed to finish on a grey and soggy afternoon that left the Briton's title bid on hold for another day at least. Rowland would have been champion with three races to spare had he finished 69 points clear of closest rival Pascal Wehrlein but instead he retired with a damaged car and his lead reduced to 50. It was the leader's first retirement of the season. Porsche's Wehrlein, the defending champion from Germany, finished second with a bonus point for fastest lap at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport circuit and Mahindra's Swiss driver Edoardo Mortara was third for his second successive podium. Rowland can still clinch the title on Sunday if he finishes 59 points clear of Wehrlein, otherwise the chase continues to the final two races in London at the end of the month. There are still 87 points to be won. Rowland slipped from third to fifth at the start, with the safety car deployed after Jake Dennis's Andretti was stranded on the grid, but the key moment came six laps from the end when he made contact with Stoffel Van Doorne's Maserati and spun around.
