Monsoon misery persists in Sanganer despite CM's repeated visits

1 2 3 4 5 6 Jaipur: The arrival of monsoon has not only brought the much-needed rains to Rajasthan but has also seen Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma making his second visit this year to his constituency, Sanganer. On Wednesday, he issued fresh directives to Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G) officials, urging them to repair broken roads, address water supply issues and expedite sewer line work. The reality on the ground, however, tells a different story. Sanganer continues to reel under the same age-old problems: crumbling infrastructure, choked drains and monsoon misery. Take the Malpura underpass, for instance. Once meant to ease movement, it's now riddled with potholes, nearly impossible for two-wheelers to navigate without swerving dangerously. Just a few metres ahead, a broken cement block intended to cover an open drain lies partially collapsed. During heavy downpours, water rushes past with such force that the drain's gaping void becomes clearly visible. Rajeev Jaga, who runs a nearby shop, said, "It's been nearly 15 days since this block broke. Just two days ago, rainwater overflowed onto the road. We locals know where to step but for a stranger, it could be fatal." The same chaos spills into public schools. At Mahatma Gandhi English Medium School in Dada Gurudev Nagar, water has flooded not only the approach road but the school playground as well. "Two days ago, the road outside was completely submerged," said staffer Ashok Jangid. "As for officials? No one ever shows up here, forget about acting." Even as the Diggi Kalyan Ji pad yatra drew large crowds Thursday, basic arrangements were lacking. Babulal, who was setting up tents for the pilgrimage, remarked, "What's the use of the CM's visits? He comes, gives orders, leaves. Nothing changes. Even today, when everything should've been perfect, the roads are still broken and waterlogged." Outside the CM's own local office building (Mukhyamantri Camp Karyalay), the main road is no better. One side is a stretch of potholes, the other a mini-lake formed by stagnant rainwater deep enough to submerge a four-wheeler's tyres. In Engineer's Colony near Mangyawas, the road caved in after Monday's downpour. Local resident Aman Saini says, "This road was once solid. Ever since they dug it up for the sewer line, it turns into a mess after just one rain. Now it's all mud and slush." Perhaps the most symbolic of all is the RIICO Kata area, where the CM himself laid the foundation stone for road widening on Jan 12. Today, only the stone remains. Around it, nothing but water, cracked roads and a disappointed public. Sanganer's struggle reveals a deeper rot where govt visits, foundation stones and grand declarations rarely translate into real change.

Brace for traffic congestion as four JDA projects start in Sept

Jaipur: With Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) set to begin work on four major projects in Sept, traffic may move slowly or be diverted at these city areas. Soon, JDA officials will meet the traffic department to finalise the road map for traffic during the construction works. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Our aim would be to disturb the city traffic as minimally as possible. We would work in stretches so that, if required, we can divert traffic only on a small stretch of the road. The aim is to complete the projects before the deadline," said an official. A senior JDA official disclosed that the projects comprise two elevated roads in Sanganer and on Gopalpura Bypass Road, as well as two railway overbridges at Shaligrampura Phatak and CBI Phatak. "The work orders have been issued for two of the projects, while tenders for the remaining two have been awarded and work orders will be issued soon," another official added. Officials said these projects may affect traffic movement on the Gopalpura Bypass Road—from the Gopalpura ROB to Gurjar ki Thadi—and on Sanganer Road, Ganga Marg, Jagatpura Road, and roads adjacent to the Shaligrampura Phatak. JDA is awaiting clearance from UDH dept and state govt to finalise dates for the foundation stone-laying ceremonies of these four projects. "We feel the state govt may agree to lay the foundation stones for all these four projects, together with that of Jaipur Metro Line 2, on a single day. We are ready to start the construction works by Sept," stated an official.

Hyderabad: A delegation from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has lauded the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's (GHMC) Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and 'Build Now' policies. The JDA Commissioner, Anandi, led a team that included Planning Director Preeti Gupta, IT Advisor R.K. Sharma, Assistant Town Planner Rushikesh Kolte, and IT Deputy Director Pankaj Sharma on a visit to GHMC on Thursday to study these successful urban planning and permission systems. Officials at the GHMC headquarters welcomed the delegation. Commissioner R.V. Karnan delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation, explaining the nuances of the TDR Policy, especially the key features and benefits of the updated policy introduced in 2017. He also highlighted 'Build Now', GHMC's single-window platform for building and layout permissions. Commissioner Karnan emphasised that these policies have greatly facilitated land acquisition for government development projects within GHMC limits. He also noted a significant increase in transparency, efficiency, and accountability in civic services, along with a reduction in the time taken for permission processes and streamlined rule implementation. The visiting JDA team expressed their appreciation for GHMC's policies, stating their intention to implement similar systems in Jaipur to enhance city administration and improve public accessibility. GHMC Chief City Planner Srinivas Rao, Additional Chief City Planners Gangadhar and Pradeep Kumar, Study Tour Coordinators Raj Kumar and Wilson, along with various Town Planning Officers, were also present at the meeting.

‘Raj township policy aims at affordable hsg, green devpt'

Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Monday stated that the newly announced Rajasthan Township Policy 2024 is not only aimed at building townships but also at creating ecosystems that are green, inclusive, and growth-oriented. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "This policy is a blueprint for Rajasthan's urban future," said Sharma in an official statement. The policy mandates inclusion of parks, green zones, and public utility spaces in all residential townships. Each project must earmark 7% of its land for parks and playgrounds and 8% for community services and utilities. Additionally, rainwater harvesting and wastewater recycling systems will be compulsory for all new developments. A major highlight is the policy's Antyodaya vision, which prioritises affordable housing for the economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower-income groups (LIG). To further ease the lives of workers, industrial projects will now be required to reserve 5% of their land for labour housing, reducing commute times and enhancing productivity. To protect consumer interests, the policy introduces developer accountability mechanisms. Developers must retain 2.5% of project land as collateral to ensure infrastructure maintenance for at least five years or until the handover to a Residents' Welfare Association (RWA). Acknowledging the limitations of land in urban centres, the policy promotes vertical development and encourages high-rise residential projects, alongside mixed land-use plans. Group housing, plotted schemes, flat systems, commercial hubs, sub-city centres, and community spaces will be part of this integrated approach. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now For better urban mobility, the policy paves the way for the construction of large sector roads, following the Jaipur Development Authority's model. Land acquisition for these projects will be based on mutual consent to minimise disputes. In a significant push for renewable energy, the policy removes earlier restrictions on setting up solar and wind energy plants, even on land without formal road access in revenue records.
