JDA to construct 71 sector roads

Jaipur: With city roads deteriorating due to potholes, craters, and uneven surfaces, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has decided to construct 71 sector roads under its annual road maintenance programme. Though these roads were part of the Master Plan 2025, the JDA had been unable to execute them earlier due to various delays. Now, a portion of the road maintenance fund will be allocated for their construction. "We have four categories of sector roads – A, B, C, and D. Out of 226 proposed A and B category roads in the Master Plan, 71 will now be developed. The civic body has already granted administrative and financial approval of Rs 454 crore for the project," a senior JDA official said. During the previous Congress govt, sector roads were prioritised by category, with 'A' being the most critical. A JDA engineer added that these 71 roads were selected based on future traffic needs and planned settlements along both sides. "Several rounds of discussions were held between zone deputy commissioners and zonal engineers to finalise the list of sector roads. We also considered the availability of land and the number of encroachments to be removed before selection. Hopefully, construction will proceed smoothly," said a JDA engineer. Officials confirmed that out of the 71 sector roads, six will be developed near Niwaru Road and Govindpura, 13 near Muralipura, nine in Mansarovar and Bhankrota, two near Delhi and Agra Roads, and 16 in the Vartika area. "Tenders have already been floated for some of them," an official added.

Khatipura residents live amid rubble after JDA demolition drive

1 2 Jaipur: In a display of administrative negligence, residents along the General Sagat Singh Marg, Khatipura Tiraha and Sirsi Road are grappling with a man-made disaster more than a month after the Jaipur Development Authority's (JDA) anti-encroachment drive. The drive, conducted in May, targeted illegal roadside shops and houses. The demolition was intended at road widening but the left debris has transformed the area into a civic catastrophe. Broken structures, blocked drainage systems and wasted water have become daily reminders of the authorities' failure to complete what they started. The crisis has forced residents to dig into their own pockets, with each household contributing Rs 500 for partial debris removal. "We couldn't wait for the authorities any longer with monsoon approaching," says Ratan Lal, 56, a frustrated resident who has witnessed his neighbourhood transform into a waterlogged mess during recent rains. The haphazard execution has left the main drainage line clogged with rubble, creating a potential public health hazard. Adding to the woes, the demolition was allegedly carried out without disconnecting water connections, resulting in continuous wastage of precious drinking water resources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 5 Dividend Stocks with Growth Potential Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo "We're watching clean water go down the drain daily in a city where some colonies struggle to get tanker supplies," says Suresh Kumar Mitharwal, a local lawyer, highlighting the irony of the situation. JDA site engineer Nishant Khandelwal attributed the delay in debris removal to safety concerns and partial demolitions, explaining that residents had pledged to clear encroachments themselves. DIG enforcement at JDA, Kailash Bishnoi said that the authority was "working to resolve the issue," though no specific timeline was provided. This debacle exposes an unplanned urban development and bureaucratic apathy.

JDA clears encroachments on 2-km stretch

Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) Monday cleared encroachments from a 2-km stretch on the 100-foot sector road boundary from Malpura Gate Junction to Dadabari Junction in Zone 8. In Zone-10, encroachment was cleared from around five bighas of govt land, officials said. In Zone-8, around 125 temporary encroachments, including illegally constructed platforms, stairs, walls, iron angles, tin sheds, stalls, carts, hoardings, signboards, tables, and chairs, were removed. "Despite warnings to the encroachers, they failed to clear encroachments, leading to a joint operation with JMC-Greater with revenue and technical staff. In Zone-10, near Sumel scheme, JDA-owned land of about five bighas was illegally levelled and a mud road was constructed. The enforcement team demolished the encroachments," said JDA. tnn
