Sligo midfielder Doyle-Hayes sues Hibs over injury caused by manager's tackle
Ex-Ireland U21 midfielder Jake Doyle-Hayes is suing his former club Hibernian over an injury he suffered in a tackle by his then-manager. Doyle-Hayes (26) lodged a compensation action against the Scottish Premiership club at the Court of Session in Edinburgh on Wednesday. His legal team claims the midfielder's career had been "greatly restricted" by the ankle issue sustained in a tackle by Lee Johnson in 2022. The Cavan native is currently at Sligo Rovers, whom he joined in February, but his representatives insist in their case: "Jake's career has been derailed by mismanagement and ineptitude. A career has been lost to this athlete." Doyle-Hayes joined Aston Villa as a trainee, moving on to play for St Mirren in Scotland. He spent four years at Hibernian, making only 69 appearances, due to his playing time 'being hampered by injury over the last two seasons". This stemmed from what Thompsons Solicitors described as "horrific injuries" suffered in the incident during the training session, leading to surgery on his ankle. They argue that, without the injury, his career would have continued at a higher level. A figure of compensation being sought wasn't disclosed, only that the potential loss of earnings was substantial. Joel Shaw, partner at the firm, said: "The impact of this has greatly restricted his career. "These injuries should never have happened and were incurred due to incompetent and incoherent decisions made by his manager. "Jake's career has been derailed by mismanagement and ineptitude. A career has been lost to this athlete." Johnson was sacked by Hibs in August 2023. A Hibs spokesperson told the BBC they were aware of the claim.

Another major EastEnders character to return after 8 years
EastEnders are expanding the Branning family this year, with the return of Lauren Branning's (Jacqueline Jossa) younger brother Oscar. The character, who was born on screen in 2007, is the son of Max Branning (Jake Wood) and his ex-wife Tanya Cross (Jo Joyner). With Jake reprising his role later this year, it has now been reported that he won't come back to Albert Square alone. Last seen portrayed by child actor Charlee Hall, the BBC soap has recast the part with Netflix star Pierre Moullier stepping into Oscar's shoes. Metro first reported Pierre's casting on Wednesday, as new filming pictures showed him on location with co-stars Jacqueline, Peter Beale favourite Thomas Law and Ian Beale legend Adam Woodyatt. Outside of an abandoned building, Lauren and the newbie can be seen carrying a number of holdalls and rucksacks. Peter can be seen sitting in a van with Oscar, before the group rush over towards three ne'er-do-wellers. They're also wearing tracksuits, and are holding bags, with one of them carrying a cricket bat down the front of his trousers. Lauren, can be seen shouting at Peter, as she seems to try and bargain with the gang. As the situation escalates, the weapon is brought out and they're threatened. Ian darts towards the van and encourages Oscar to get away from the situation as quickly as possible. With the vehicle speeding off, the thugs wave the cricket bat in their direction. After some speculation over Pierre's role from this soaps reporter, The Sun have now confirmed that he is portraying Oscar Branning. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? A source told the publication: 'It is an exceptional bout of casting – Pierre looks more like a younger Jake than Jake did himself. It's uncanny. 'He's going to bring something new to Oscar and the character will definitely set the cat amongst the pigeons in the Square.' More Trending As Oscar was just a child last time we saw him in 2017, he hasn't had many storylines, though the character was very much at the heart of Max's affair with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). Following the explosive fall out in that memorable Christmas Day episode, the youngster was crying upstairs. Tanya rushed to attend to him and pack her bags, and was sent tumbling down the staircase. He was due to visit Max for his tenth birthday, though Tanya changed her mind at the last hour when she learnt that he had tried to con his neighbours in a scam with dodgy Weyland & Co. Books for Kids: Stories to send them to sleep
Books By Special to Montreal Gazette 'In the great green room there was a telephone and a red balloon and a picture of the cow jumping over the moon ...' When I acquired a copy of Goodnight Moon soon after the birth of my first child, the classic picture book by Margaret Wise Brown with those opening lines, originally published in 1947, left me decidedly underwhelmed. The text, in a lilting rhyme, basically consisted of a list of things in a room and Clement Hurd's illustrations, while colourful, struck me as flat-looking and simplistic. But reading the book to my sons at bedtime changed my mind. Their interest in pointing at items listed in the soothing, repetitive text helped explain why, decades later, Goodnight Moon remains a staple of nightly bedtime routines in households where sharing a book with little ones is valued. Goodnight Moon has become my go-to gift for new mothers (although I also like to tuck in Sandra Boynton's comical The Going to Bed Book, first published in 1982), but over the years plenty of other titles have made the list of bedtime books. Below, some new and relatively recent additions. By Shauntay Grant Illustrated by Zach Manbeck Tundra Books Ages 2 to 5 Nova Scotia's Shauntay Grant was inspired by Goodnight Moon when she wrote the rhyming text for this just-published picture book. Pennsylvania-based illustrator Zach Manbeck cites the film The Wizard of Oz and the paintings of Maxfield Parrish and Vincent van Gogh as his inspirations. The result is a lyrical bedtime book with golden mixed-media art that depicts a child busy with his toy box who allows himself to be carried off by a magical Mother Moon figure through a starry sky into a dreamlike playland filled with familiar toy characters, where he is finally lulled to sleep. The Great Dinosaur Sleepover By Linda Bailey Illustrated by Joe Bluhm Tundra Books Ages 4 to 8 Jake is about to celebrate a birthday; he invites three friends to a sleepover with a dinosaur theme. Jake loves dinosaurs! Everything is ready when the big day arrives — except that things go 'stupendously wrong' when his dad tells him the friends have all caught the flu and the sleepover will have to be postponed. 'But everything's ready NOW!' Jake wails. Too sad to eat, he goes to bed early, waking in the middle of the night when he hears a snort. Creeping downstairs, he finds three dinosaurs watching TV. It makes for the best birthday ever, especially when three more dinos join them for games outside. When he tells his parents about it the next morning, they say he must have been dreaming. Until one of his friends shows up with a special birthday gift! Happy Dreams, Little Bunny Written and illustrated by Leah Hong Little, Brown & Co. Ages 3 to 7 Little Bunny, the central figure in Leah Hong's bedtime story, has trouble getting to sleep, so his mom suggests turning some of the thoughts that keep him awake into dreams. 'It won't be hard,' she says, 'with your imagination.' Little Bunny enlists the help of his toy elephant and together they dream up a magical series of adventures that eventually help Little Bunny drift off to sleep. Beautifully illustrated in pastel, pencil crayon and graphite, the text is written as a loving question-and-answer exchange between Mommy and Little Bunny. Awake, Asleep By Kyle Lukoff Illustrated by Nadia Alam Orchard Books, a Scholastic imprint Ages 3 to 5 Beginning with 'a kiss, a blink, a dawn, a break,' author Kyle Lukoff and Toronto-based illustrator Nadia Alam introduce us to three diverse families and their young offspring as they go about a day's activities, occasionally crossing paths, until night falls and the book ends with 'a kiss, a blink, a night, asleep.' The minimal text, combined with the lively images, tells a story of three sets of neighbours and how their children interact. A wonderful bedtime book, since even those who can't read for themselves yet will be able to decode the images and appreciate their message of individuality and togetherness. Too Early By Nora Ericson Illustrated by Elly MacKay Abrams Books for Young Readers Ages 3 to 7 'You wake up too early,' Daddy tells his early riser, as he shuffles the child down the stairs, trying not to wake the baby and letting Mama have more time in bed. Downstairs, he gets the coffee pot burbling and gives the early riser some warm milk before they both head out to the porch and snuggle together to watch the stars in the sky. An evocative text and glowing illustrations make this a perfect bedtime book, since it offers the promise of a new day to follow a night's sleep.

The BBC soap is set to begin rebuilding one of its main families with the Brannings to take centre stage once more. Max's comeback will also see his son Oscar arrive in Walford for the first time since 2017 - and he's being played by a brand new recast. Actor Pierre Moullier will play the now teenage Oscar taking over the role from Charlee Hall who last appeared in eight years ago. A source said: 'It is an exceptional bout of casting - Pierre looks more like a younger Jake than Jake did himself. It's uncanny. 'He's going to bring something new to Oscar and the character will definitely set the cat amongst the pigeons in the Square.' Actor Jake quit the BBC One soap in 2021 after 15 years to focus on other acting projects. His comeback coincides with former on-screen lover Stacey Slater, played by Lacey Turner, preparing to depart Walford. A telly source said: 'Jake's return is huge news for EastEnders fans as his character made a massive mark on the show. 'It'll raise some eyebrows after he was absent from the 40th anniversary earlier this year. Bosses are excited about what his character's reappearance means for spicing up the plots. EastEnders changes famous theme in honour of Max Branning's exit after 15yrs 'There is plenty to go at. Max has loads of unfinished business in the Square and is set to ruffle some feathers.' Speaking earlier this year Jake admitted he missed being part of the soap — except for the busy filming regime. He said: 'I don't miss the schedules. Anyone will tell you how hard they are and sort of all-consuming, but obviously I miss a lot of the people. 'When you're at the centre of a big storyline like EastEnders Christmas, something like that — it's a real thrill as an actor to be a part of that, big storylines, big characters.' EastEnders' 40th anniversary cameos so far With the 40th anniversary of EastEnders coming up, fans are looking forward to some more incredible cameos from iconic faces of Walford's past. Paul Bradley - Bradley returned as Nigel Bates, a character he last played over 25 years ago. Micheal French - French returned as David Wicks, a character he last played two decades ago. Patsy Palmer - Palmer returned as Bianca Jackson, a character she last played in 2019. Ricky Groves - Groves returned as Garry Hobbs, a character who has not been seen since 2009. Cliff Parisi - Parisi returned as Minty Peterson, a character who was last seen on the square in 2010. Ross Kemp - Kemp has returned to play Grant Mitchell, a character he first played in 1990. The BBC has described Kemp's storyline as "explosive". Kemp said it was an "absolute honour" to return to the show. Other aspects of the EastEnders 40th anniversary celebration include: A wedding between fan favorites, A huge explosion at the Queen Vic, and A live interactive episode. Earlier this month EastEnders scooped a TV Bafta for best soap — with executive producer Kate Oates teasing: 'If you like a return, I don't think you're going to be disappointed because there's potentially one on the cards. 'We've got some uncharted territory.'
