Goalkeeper set to return to Manchester City two years after exit
Manchester City are set to re-sign goalkeeper James Trafford for £27m, two years after his departure to Burnley. Trafford rejected a move to Newcastle United, opting instead to return to his former club after City activated a matching rights clause in his previous transfer deal. The 22-year-old will sign a five-year contract and is expected to serve as cover for Ederson, which may lead to the departure of Stefan Ortega. Trafford equalled the record for most clean sheets in an English league season last year, keeping 29 for Burnley during their promotion-winning campaign. His return represents another transfer market setback for Newcastle, while City's summer spending will reach approximately £140m.

James Trafford set for Manchester City return in £27m deal
Manchester City are set to re-sign the Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford for £27million. The 22-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with the option for a further year and the transfer will be complete after a medical. He kept a record 29 clean sheets in 45 Championship matches last year as Burnley finished second to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Trafford started his career in the City academy before being sold to Burnley for £14million in 2023. That deal included a clause which meant that if an offer for Trafford was made by any club, Burnley had to inform City. Newcastle United made a bid for the goalkeeper and when City were informed, they matched that bid, with Trafford now choosing to return to the Etihad to compete with Ederson for the No1 spot. Ederson had been linked with a move this summer but despite having only one year left on his present deal he looks likely to stay this season. Trafford's arrival means that Stefan Ortega is likely to leave the club.
