Jamie Carragher drops Celtic Champions League claim that gets Thierry Henry saying 'don't make statements'
PSG started last night in unwelcome company but shattered through the barrier with a 5-0 win over Inter Jamie Carragher predicted there will never be another Champions League winner from smaller nations like Scotland – before Thierry Henry warned him not to make 'statements' that could come back to bite him. PSG annihilated Inter 5-0 to win the trophy last night and, incredibly, it was only the second time a team from France had won the Champions League or European Cup. Marseille's victory in 1993 had stood alone as the only French success in the competition leaving them trailing well behind the rest of the Big Five nations – with Spain, England, Italy and Germany boasting 55 between them. Prior to PSG's win they were in unwelcome company as one of four nations with only one to their name. Celtic, famously, are the only Scottish team to win the big one, the famous Lisbon Lions win in 1967 the proudest moment in their history and one that is unlikely to be repeated. Outside of that only Red Star Belgrade from the former Yugoslavia and Steaua Bucharest of Romania can boast bringing home their country's sole European Cup. The pre-match discussion centred around whether PSG would be able to break France out of that bracked, and Carragher, speaking on CBS Sports, said: 'The big thing when you look at that stats table, France are alongside Scotland, the former Yugoslavia, and Romania. Those three countries, I am quite confident, will never win a Champions League again.' That's when Arsenal legend Henry cut in: "Don't make statements!" But Carragher clarified: 'No, I just don't see that. France produces some of the best footballers in the world. Probably one of the most dominant nations in the world. It's unacceptable that they only have one Champions League winner.' PSG did in the end win a second Champions League for France, and in some style. Desire Doue was the star of the show with two goals and an assist as Inter struggled to even lay a glove on the dominant French champions, who will be hoping to rack up the European honours in the years ahead and fire France up the medal table. ‘Snap your hands and take it' – Paul Scholes reveals why Man Utd should accept Al-Hilal's £100m bid for Bruno Fernandes
PAUL SCHOLES has urged Manchester United transfer chiefs to "snap" the hands off a £100million offer for Bruno Fernandes. Club captain Fernandes was the team's top scorer and creator with 19 goals and 20 assists across all competitions. 2 2 However, with the Red Devils failing to qualify for European football after finishing 15th in the league and losing the Europa League final, he has been the subject of transfer interest by Al-Hilal. The 30-year-old has admitted he would be willing to leave if the club wanted to "cash in" on him, with the Saudi Pro League outfit's bid reported to be worth around £100m. And Man Utd legend Scholes, 50, believes the club would be mad not to accept the deal given that Fernandes is also a bit of an awkward fit for the 3-4-3 system. Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, he said: "They are talking about £100m for him, Man United cannot say no to that. "I know he has been brilliant and carried the team on his back, but where does he actually play, what is his position? "Do you see him as a number 10? Do you see him as a holding midfielder? 'He almost confuses the whole system. I mean, he has been brilliant, don't get me wrong. "But when you're getting £100m for him, you snap your hands and take it.' Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher also weighed in on the topic. He added: "I've always described Bruno Fernandes as a great talent but not a great player - where does he play? 'Shambles' - Luke Littler savages Man Utd in one word over Bruno Fernandes transfer links and gives Amorim verdict "He's a bit mad in that he just runs all over the place, like a kid in the school yard. "The best player in the school yard doing everything but in a really poor team. "I don't think he's ever had any discipline in those No.10 positions." The £100m could go a long way to helping the club recruit fresh faces to try and move them back up to the top end of the table. However, manager Ruben Amorim believes his talisman could stay at the club to lead the revolution. Speaking to in a press conference during Man Utd's frantic post-season tour of Asia, he said: "We've talked about this many times. You can see by his [Bruno Fernandes'] performances. "You can see by his leadership. 'You can see the passion he has for the game. In difficult moments, Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should do it because he is the captain."

Jamie Carragher reveals why PSG's Luis Enrique is refusing to speak to him and CBS Sports before Champions League final
JAMIE CARRAGHER is getting the cold shoulder from Luis Enrique ahead of the Champions League final. The former England centre-back, 47, will be part of CBS' coverage of the showpiece in Munich on Saturday. 3 3 Enrique's PSG take on Inter Milan and hope to win their first ever Champions League crown. But the Spanish boss is set to swerve speaking to either Carragher or the CBS crew. Carragher joined Borussia Dortmund 's ultras for a game against PSG in last year's tournament. The Liverpool legend sank EIGHT pints with the fans on Dortmund's iconic Yellow Wall. He later appeared live on air looking a little worse for wear. And the move didn't go down well with Enrique. Carragher told It's Called Soccer podcast: "Luis Enrique, at the moment, won't speak to us. "Because last season, I was in Dortmund when his team lost to Borussia Dortmund. "I was in the mixed zone with a Borussia Dortmund scarf on, so that didn't go down particularly well with Luis." Jamie Carragher interviews Jadon Sancho on live TV after EIGHT PINTS and CBS Sports studio cannot bear to watch Carragher was "in the sin bin" following the incident, according to his CBS colleague Peter Schmeichel. Speaking during the broadcast, the ex-Man Utd keeper said: "Seriously, he's upset every person here. "First of all, we were supposed to have Luis Enrique. "And he came in and said, 'Hello' and then he left because Jamie was wearing a Dortmund scarf." Prior to his light-hearted feud with the CBS crew, Enrique appeared on the network's post-game show last season. Jamie Carragher accuses IShowSpeed of 'using' Cristiano Ronaldo before the former Liverpool star and the YouTuber go comically head to head on the pitch
Sparks flew when YouTube star IShowSpeed spent the day with CBS Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards recently. Speed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr, is a 20-year-old American content creator with almost 40 million subscribers on YouTube. Much of his content to date has centred on his obsession with Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner and the world's most-followed person on Instagram. Richards and Carragher quizzed Speed about his love for Ronaldo while they shared a car ride together, which was streamed live on Twitch. 'What's the obsession with Ronaldo? We never actually address this on CBS,' asked Richards. 'I know you love him, I respect that. But why do you love him so much?' Speed responded by describing Ronaldo as 'The GOAT', meaning greatest of all time. Jamie Carragher tried pressing Speed by saying he is using Ronaldo to get his numbers up 😭 — Speedy Updates (@SpeedUpdates1) May 30, 2025 He is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the UEFA Champions League on five occasions He said: 'He is literally No 1 in the football world. He is literally No 1 in the world. Ronaldo's the GOAT.' But a sceptical Carragher asked Speed: 'Were you just using him to try and get your numbers up?' Speed replied instantly with a defiant 'no', but Carragher hit back: 'I think you were. 'He was massive on social media. You come in when you were 15 to start to get going, you jump on Ronaldo, you do his celebrations...' At this point, Richards was in fits of laughter. However, the car then briefly fell silent after Speed created an awkward moment by asking Carragher: 'Jamie, have you ever lifted a trophy a day in your life?' Speed repeated his question to Carragher, who in turn asked the American: 'Lifted a what?' Seemingly unaware of Carragher's list of honours, Speed added: 'A UCL trophy. Have you ever lifted a UCL trophy?' Carragher, who was part of the Liverpool team that won the UEFA Champions League in 2005 after fighting back from 3-0 down to AC Milan in the final, responded with a question of his own: 'What do you think?' Shaking his head, Speed answered: 'No, you have not.' Jamie's still got it 😉 @ishowspeedsui tries to beat @Carra23 1V1 ⚽️ — CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) May 30, 2025 Somewhat smugly, Carragher then looked down the lens of the camera and said: 'That'll go down well on your stream. I was only part of the greatest final of all time.' Doubting what he had just been told, Speed pulled out his phone and said: 'Let me look this up on Google', as Carragher and Richards giggled beside him. Later in the stream, Speed and Carragher went head to head on an indoor pitch. Their one-on-one battle turned out to be just as amusing as their earlier chat. Speed tried to dribble past ex-defender Carragher but a heavy touch took the ball into the corner, where he was tackled. Now in possession but unable to beat his opponent for pace, Carragher tried to use his strength to get the better of Speed. However, despite plenty of pushing and shoving, Carragher also succeeded only in getting to the corner of the pitch and losing the ball. Speed then had another go at using his pace to skin Carragher, but lost both the ball and one of his shoes. He then accused Carragher of being too rough. 'He hit me in the face', said a flagging Speed. However, this either never happened or was not caught on camera. In addition to winning the Champions League in 2005, Carragher lifted the FA Cup twice during his Liverpool career. He also won two League Cups, two Community Shields, two UEFA Super Cups and one UEFA Cup (now the Europa League).
