Chelsea launch £50m Jamie Gittens move with Liam Delap announcement close

Chelsea are in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens. The Blues considered a deal for the England Under-21 international back in January, and it is understood that he has been on their list of primary transfer targets for several months. Advertisement Gittens, who trained in Chelsea's youth setup earlier in his career, has made a name for himself in Germany since leaving Manchester City's academy for Dortmund in 2020. He appeared off the bench in last year's Champions League final, when BVB lost 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley. After a season in which he scored 12 goals and registered five assists in 48 total appearances for Dortmund, Gittens is now being pursued by Chelsea, who want to add a winger to their ranks before beginning their Club World Cup campaign against Major League Soccer (MLS) side Los Angeles FC in Atlanta on June 16. The Reading-born 20-year-old is expected to cost in the region of £50million if a deal goes through. Chelsea are also close to announcing the signing of Gittens' England U21 team-mate Liam Delap after triggering his £30m release clause following Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League. Advertisement The Blues are in the process of deciding the future of Jadon Sancho, whose loan from Manchester United this season included an obligation to buy for around £25m if Chelsea finished in the top 14 in the Premier League. They finished fourth so would be liable for a £5m penalty fee if they refused to sign him permanently, with Chelsea unwilling to inherit the wages he was earning at Old Trafford. Chelsea are seeking to sell a raft of players this summer including defenders Axel Disasi and Ben Chilwell, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively, as well as considering offers for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea pay £5m to send Jadon Sancho back to Man United

Chelsea will pay a £5million penalty clause to not sign Jadon Sancho permanently this summer after the club failed to agree personal terms with the Manchester United forward. Chelsea signed Sancho, 25, on loan from United last August in a deal that included an obligation-to-buy clause worth £25million. However, the London club still retained the option to withdraw from the agreement provided that they pay a £5million penalty fee. After trying to negotiate personal terms this week, the club have opted against signing Sancho permanently and he will now return to Old Trafford when his loan ends on June 30. It is understood that Sancho will not play for Chelsea at the Club World Cup, which begins on June 14, and that the winger does have other options this summer. Chelsea's wage model is incentive-based, with new contracts generally consisting of lower base salaries that are then boosted by performance-related criteria, both individual and collective. Sancho has made 41 appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring five goals and providing ten assists. He scored the third goal during the club's 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Conference League final last week, which will now be his final game for the club. Chelsea are in the market for a right-footed left winger this month and have renewed their interest in the Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, 20, who has a £51million release clause. The club have also held an interest in United's Alejandro Garnacho, with both players subject to enquiries from Chelsea in January. Chelsea are interested in Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, 22, despite having already completed the signing of the Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap for £30million, with official confirmation of that deal expected soon. It is not yet clear whether Delap, 22, will play for Chelsea at the Club World Cup in the United States or play for England Under-21 at the European Championship in Slovakia. It is believed that Chelsea would prefer the former, and the Club World Cup holds more seniority under Fifa regulations, meaning Chelsea would have the final say. Chelsea will be including their new midfielder Dário Essugo, 20, whose signing from Sporting Lisbon was confirmed on Monday, as well as Mamadou Sarr, the 19-year-old defender who will be joining the club from Strasbourg this summer for €14million (about £11.8million). Sarr will travel with Chelsea to the US, rather than compete for France's youth sides this summer.

Chelsea set to beat Arsenal to transfer as club chief says deal could happen

Chelsea are in the market for a new winger and have approached Borussia Dortmund to try and thrash out a deal for the impressive Jamie Gittens before the Club World Cup Chelsea have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal which would see their sought-after winger, Jamie Gittens, return to the club he had a brief spell with in his academy days. Gittens, 20, was the subject of interest from the Blues back in January and also has other Premier League suitors. Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Gittens, with all three clubs in the market for more firepower this summer. ‌ It's Chelsea, though, who have formalised their interest by approaching Dortmund for talks with a view to striking a deal before the upcoming Club World Cup. ‌ As per The Telegraph, Gittens is expected to attract offers in the region of £50million this summer amid interest in his services. The winger has a release clause for a similar amount in his contract which, if triggered, would mean the England Under-21 star is free to negotiate a switch to Chelsea, who briefly had Gittens in their academy previously. Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle have also been linked with Gittens in recent weeks following a stellar season for the wideman in Germany. And in a boost for the winger's suitors, Sebastian Kehl, the Borussia Dortmund sporting director, has already hinted that the club are willing to cash in on Gittens if serious offers materialise over the summer. Speaking to Sport1 last month, he said of Gittens: 'There's definitely a market for him. He's a very exciting player. We'll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we'll have to deal with them.' ‌ Chelsea are keen on adding a winger to Enzo Maresca's squad as they prepare to return to the Champions League fold next season. They also hold an interest in Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho, who is free to leave Old Trafford this summer and was linked heavily with the Blues in January. It remains to be what Chelsea's interest in a deal for Gittens means for Jadon Sancho, who spent the 2024-25 season on loan with the Londoners. The Blues have an option to make that deal permanent for £25m, however, they can also renege on it if they are willing to pay Manchester United a £5m penalty fee.

It's no secret that Jamie Gittens is looking to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer - and a move now appears to be edging closer. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are eager to secure the signing of the 20-year-old winger before the Club World Cup kicks off in around two weeks. Advertisement The report states that Gittens has a €60 million release clause in his contract with Dortmund. Negotiations between the two clubs are reportedly underway, with the Blues keen to finalize the deal quickly in order to register Gittens in time for the tournament in the United States. Gittens previously spent six months in Chelsea's youth academy before moving on to Reading, then Manchester City, and eventually joining Borussia Dortmund in 2020.
