Quadzilla, Four-Play: Gilbert Gardiner's betting strategy for Sandown Hillside on Saturday
Form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his $200 betting strategy plus Quadzilla for racing at Sandown Hillside on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– FOUR-PLAY: Gilbert Gardiner's $200 betting strategy $50 win LOSESOMEWINMORE (3) win at $3.20 Built a nice record, four wins from eight starts, including two at Flemington. Last start winner at Headquarters should appreciate the Sandown Hillside circuit and hard to beat again despite the wide barrier. Star jockey Jamie Melham has stuck with the Richard and Chantelle Jolly -trained South Australian raider. Wary of race fit pair HARRY GOT STYLES (6) and FASUTO (1), well back in grade and poised to get last crack at them. Losesomewinmore sneaks up on them & salutes to get back into the winner's circle ðŸ'° @jamieleekah07 posts an Anzac Day double ✌ï¸ @RJollyRacing — (@Racing) April 25, 2025 $25 each-way ARRAN BAY (1) at $8/$2.60 A model of consistency, placed the past three starts at 1600m in similar races in Adelaide most recently and previously at Bendigo. The Phillip Stokes -trained galloper is hard fit and the extra distance looks ideal despite giving up weight to key rivals. Arran Bay has won nine of 38 starts and placed on 13 occasions. Should be around the mark again. Finished ahead of favourite AIR ASSAULT (5) the past two starts but worse off on the weight scale. Another Flemington win for the All Too Hard gelding ðŸ'¥ Arran Bay takes his career prizemoney earnings north of $500k with today's victory ðŸ'° @pstokesracing @DanielStack33 — (@Racing) March 30, 2024 $25 each-way RUAKAKA RAIDER (17) at $8.50/$3.20 First emergency needs a scratching to make the cut but if fortunate enough to sneak into the field could take this out. The Cindy Alderson -trained four-year-old gelding rattled home late first-up at Caulfield and produced the best closing sectionals of the race. Ruakaka Raider won second-up last campaign. Handles all conditions and a horse to follow going forward. Ruakaka Raider continues his impressive run of form to take out the opener in a photo! ðŸ'¸ It's his third win from his last four starts for Cindy Alderson 🙌 @DanielStack33 — (@Racing) November 16, 2024 $25 each-way THE OPEN (12) at $8/$2.60 Unbeaten third-up (2-2) and looks poised to strike after two solid hit-outs at Cranbourne and Caulfield respectively. Last start fourth behind the in-form War Machine, favourite to take out a Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap qualifier in Brisbane on Saturday. Drawn wide but good speed in the race should suit The Open, nicely weighted with apprentice Tom Prebble taking two kilograms off. Prebble has ridden The Open four times previously for two wins. The Open swoops through on the outside to cap off a stellar 2024 with his 6th win of the year 🙌 @mj_payne @TheBeeegan — (@Racing) December 7, 2024 â– â– â– â– â– QUADZILLA LEG 1, RACE 6 ARRAN BAY (1) has placed the past three starts and despite a big weight should be right in the finish again. Favourite AIR ASSAULT (5) has finished behind Arran Bay the past two starts in Adelaide but better off on the weight scale on Saturday. SABAN (11) touched off last start at Caulfield. Should go close again. SAYEDATY SADATY (10) drawn to be prominent and could run a cheeky race first-up, especially if allowed to dictate on speed. 1ST LEG 1, 5, 10, 11 LEG 2, RACE 7 OTAGO (15) finished like a train first-up at Flemington after a long break to get within two lengths of race fit and in-form King Zephyr. Showed above average ability last season and anything close to potential would be good enough here. Emergencies RUAKAKA RAIDER (17) and PERSIAN SPIRIT (18) loom as the biggest threats although unlikely both scrape into the field. Include NATION'S CALL (11), who is suited by a rise in distance. 2ND LEG 11, 15, 17 LEG 3, RACE 8 THE OPEN (12) has been just outside of the places the past two starts and boasts a perfect third-up record (2-2). Last start fourth behind the in-form War Machine, not beaten far. Watch for him late. Respect Sydney raider ACCREDITED (10) with jockey Jamie Melham aboard. Accredited placed fifth in a blanket finish at Gosford last start, beaten half a length in the Listed Takeover Target (1200m). Has won at 1400m previously and need only hold form to be competitive again. Include OSCAR'S FORTUNE (1), hard fit with three runs under the belt. A decision on favourite ELOUYOU (13) is likely to be made on Saturday as trainer Scott Cameron wants a rain-affected track. 3RD LEG 1, 10, 12, 13 LEG 4, RACE 9 SUNSHINEINMYPOCKET (4) has won five of eight career starts including two of his past four. Drawn wide but talented galloper with plenty of upside to come. OH TOO GOOD (7) placed third in a similar race first-up at Caulfield. Has not missed a place in nine career starts, including four wins. Include STEP ASIDE (8), who arrived in time to win first-up at Randwick. The Chris Waller-trained gelding has placed in four of five previous second-up appearances. 4TH LEG 4, 7, 8 SANDOWN QUADDIE Race 6: 1, 5, 10 11 Race 7: 11, 15, 17 Race 8: 1, 10, 12, 13 Race 9: 4, 7, 8 Cost: $100 for 69 per cent SKINNY QUADDIE Start with ARRAN BAY (1) and SABAN (11). In the second leg take OTAGO (15) and RUAKAKA RAIDER (17). Then in the third leg take OSCAR'S FORTUNE (1), ACCREDITED (10) and THE OPEN (12). Come home with SUNSHINEINMYPOCKET (4) and OH TOO GOOD (7).

Best bets and value play for Sandown Hillside races Wednesday
News Corp form analyst Brad Waters looks at Wednesday's meeting at Sandown. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET CLOSE TO MIDNIGHT (Race 3 No.3): The three-year-old wasn't far from the smart Biancelli at Caulfield last time out. He can improve on the bigger Sandown Hillside circuit. NEXT BEST VERHOEVEN (Race 1 No.4): Verhoeven closed well when beaten less than a length first-up and will be fitter. Expecting him to run on well again. DIWALI (Race 5 No.10): The stayer was a touch unlucky not to place in Saturday grade last time. He drops in class here and will be around the mark. VALUE BET PEEL THE STICKERS (Race 7 No.8): Peel The Stickers didn't quite see out the 1600m on the Lakeside track. He's back to 1500m on Wednesday and could overcome a tricky draw. THE JOCKEY Jockey Jamie Melham heads to Sandown for seven rides on Wednesday. SKY SISTA (Race 1 No.9 – $5.50), CONICAL NET (Race 2 No.8 – $11), EXPRESS YO'SELF (Race 3 No.7 – $10), DIVINO CAVALLO (Race 4 No.10 – $5.50), BOARDRIDER (Race 6 No.13 – $4.60), SURPRISE COMING (Race 7 No.12 – $9.50), LOWLANDS (Race 8 No.17 – $8).

Joe Pride heeds Jamie Melham's advice for Mazu in Group 1 Doomben 10,000
As wet track warrior Mazu looks to turn back time and win another Doomben 10,000, trainer Joe Pride reckons he has identified one of the keys to the evergreen galloper. A kind, female touch. Jamie Melham will ride Doomben 10,000 rival Benedetta on Saturday, but Pride has her words about Mazu ringing in his ears. 'Jamie is convinced you don't need to do much on him, you don't need to stand over him or be too vigorous on him,' Pride said. 'He is ridden by a female rider in his work and Jamie is the only one who has won on him in the last year. 'I thought keeping the theme up, getting another female rider (Rachel King) for the 10,000, that could work. 'Mazu is one of these horses who started racing early in his life. 'He has been around for a few racing seasons, but he has still got some petrol left in the tank.' • Yes Sir: $2.7m import to step out for Gai and Adrian There is a potential of a rain-affected Doomben track although exactly how it will be rated is in the lap of the gods – and if the weather forecasters are on the money. Six-year-old Mazu is a swimmer and would love a heavy track. Of his nine career wins, five have come on heavy tracks and three on soft tracks. A comprehensive win in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes, with Jamie Melham in the saddle, has him primed to fire on Saturday as an $11 chance in the $1.5m Doomben 10,000. It will be his fourth crack at the Doomben 10,000, having won the race in 2022 when he was trained by Peter and Paul Snowden. Last year, he finished seventh in the 10,000 but was less than three lengths off Bella Nipotina. 'There have been some pretty strong Doomben 10,000s that he has contested,' Pride said. • Williams gets unexpected shot at rare Group 1 hat-trick 'It will be interesting race on Saturday as there are a few who aren't going to be suited if the track gets well into soft or heavy range. 'I saw the barrier (13) and then I saw the ones around him and I thought it doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference. 'I don't mind the whole set up. 'It's perfect race for him, I'm glad I have kept him fresh for it. 'I could have given him another run or brought him up for the Victory Stakes (last Saturday), but I thought he was best served going four weeks into it and on the fresh side ready to go.' Meanwhile, Pride indicated elite performer Private Eye would have another trial before being sent north for a first-up tilt at the Kingsford Smith Cup at Eagle Farm on May 31. 'He is in great shape and I will bring Nash Rawiller up to ride him,' Pride said. Private Eye is rated a $15 chance in Kingsford Smith Cup betting and is the same price in Stradbroke Handicap markets.

Reserve Bank skyrockets in value as Jamie Melham claims back-to-back wins in The Goodwood
Gun colt Reserve Bank charged home to claim Saturday's $1m The Goodwood at Morphettville, notching a fourth win in Adelaide's premier sprint for astute trainer Mick Price. It saw star jockey Jamie Melham nailed another homecoming mission, settling off the pace aboard Reserve Bank ($5.50), before splitting the middle of the field at the 200m, on her way to a brilliant one-length win. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'He's a Group 1 winner now as a colt, isn't he? He's a beautiful, sound, big, strong and nice colt,' Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jr, said. 'I was a bit concerned in the run where he was, I did say to her (Jamie), 'he's a nice, flow along sort of horse, he doesn't like the mixed messages and don't drag him back'. 'I'm sure he was out the back, but thankfully they ran along and he was allowed to use his big stride late and he took off. 'I can only say he's a very good colt, and he's won a Group 1.' Group 1 glory secured a hat-trick of wins for Reserve Bank, a three-year-old son of Capitalist, who has now won five from nine starts. Melham admitted that the 1200m race threatened to go pear-shaped early, but it eventually mapped out perfectly. 'Nothing went to plan, he reared out the gates, missed the start, but I just got a dream run, I got a beautiful run in the end,' Melham said. 'Giga Kick was on our outside, I thought if I drag back now and get on his backside, he's going to be too sharp. 'We just rode for luck, the gaps came, I was just a passenger, Mick has this horse absolutely flying, it was a very impressive win.' Jamie Melham celebrates winning The Goodwood aboard Reserve Bank. Picture: Makoto Kaneko The win saw Melham defend her Goodwood crown, the hoop won last year's sprint aboard Benedetta. 'I thought, I can't leave Adelaide without getting another Group 1,' she said. 'It's a very special race to win, and nothing's like winning a race back home in Adelaide, my aunty is here, aunty Jan, my family are here – it's very special.' Local galloper Sir Sway ($61) ran the race of his life to finish second for trainers Sue and Jason Jaensch, while Everest-winning sprinter Giga Kick, a $2.05 favourite, was honest first-up, hitting the line strongly out wide for third. Post-race jockey reports from the 2025 The Goodwood
Reserve Bank's affinity with Adelaide continued when defeating the older horses in the $1 million Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday. Reserve Bank made it three consecutive South Australian wins when coming from back in the field, surging through the ruck in the straight to defeat local galloper Sir Sway and short favourite Giga Kick in third. "RESERVE BANK IS ON THE SCENE!" Jamie Melham has gone back-to-back in The Goodwood with Reserve Bank bounding down the middle of the track! @jamieleekah07 @MickPriceRacing — 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 10, 2025 Reserve Bank's win was the first time this season a three-year-old colt claimed a Group 1 win in open age company. A son of Capitalist, the win was Reserve Bank's fifth from 11 starts, taking his earnings to more than $980,000. Reserve Bank gave his trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) their second Group 1 win of the South Australian autumn carnival. Jamie Melham was the winning rider. This is what the riders thought of their mount's performance in The Goodwood. 1st - RESERVE BANK (Jamie Melham) Nothing went to plan. He reared out the gates, missed the start, but I just got a dream run. I got a beautiful run in the end. Giga Kick was on our outside, and I thought if I drag back now and get on his backside, he's going to be too sharp. So we just rode for luck. The gaps came and I was just a passenger. Mick's (Price) got this horse absolutely flying. That was a very impressive win. 2nd - SIR SWAY (Jake Toeroek) Super run. You can't be disappointed with that. He's run out of his skin and tried his guts out and the connections are really happy. 3rd - GIGA KICK (Mark Zahra) He ran well. From the barrier we had to settle back. The jockeys in front of me got into a bit of a tussle and I had to swing wider than I wanted but he got to the line nicely. 4th - AMEENA (Dean Yendall) Had a nice run and settled really well. Just got carted off onto Anzac Highway on the turn which didn't help and lost a few lengths which didn't help being taken off her line. The straight is better out there, so I wasn't too bothered but she still finished off well. 5th - GENEROSITY (Lucy Fiore) Super run. I had a really nice run in transit, maybe not in the best part of the track late. 6th - CLIMBING STAR (Thomas Stockdale) I didn't expect her to lead. The speed horses were nowhere to be found on jumping away. She's a horse that needs to smooth, so it's not ideal leading, but that's where we were and what we had to deal with. She gave a nice shout for the run that she had. 7th - WATCHME WIN (Jason Holder) He travelled really well in the run. He had the same sort of run as when he run. He stopped pretty quick with the 56.5 (kg). He's probably better weighted a bit lower. 8th - PRAIRIE FLOWER (Will Price) She ran enormous. She was a little bit tardy away. She got in a good spot and always travelled well. She quickened up with the field but she probably just lacks that class, but she ran really honestly. 9th - SGHIRRIPA (Ben Price) Honest run. Unfortunately he made a bit of a meal of it at the start and I would have loved to have dictated as they did. They probably outsprinted him from the 600 (metres) but I thought he was good to the line. 10th - VOLCANIC EXPRESS (Justin Potter) He ran good. He settled back and probably a little more speed would have suited him better. He probably 12 months away from a good race like that, but he tried hard. 11th - STRETAN ANGEL (Lachlan Neindorf) She a tired horse. She's ready to go to the paddock and freshen up a bit. She just lacked that spark. 12th - PRESS DOWN (Rochelle Milnes (a)) They were a class above him today.
