'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' box office collections day 5: Suresh Gopi's film stays steady; mints Rs 4.16 Cr

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Suresh Gopi 's return to the courtroom in 'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' continues to draw attention, with the film holding a steady line at the box office through its first five days. As reported by the Sacnilk website, after a reasonably strong four-day start, the legal drama added another Rs 27 lakhs on Monday, taking its total India net to Rs 4.16 crore. Slow but sure: The film's five-day journey 'JSK' opened on Thursday with Rs 1.1 crore, and while it didn't explode over the weekend, it managed to stay afloat — Rs 1 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 90 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 89 lakhs on Sunday. The Monday dip was natural, but the film still managed to pull in some footfall, especially in evening and night shows. Janaki V vs State Of Kerala - Official Trailer Interestingly, it's not just Kerala that's tuning in. Cities like Bengaluru and Chennai are showing decent numbers — Bengaluru, in fact, clocked in over 25% occupancy on Monday, far outpacing Kerala's metros like Kochi and Trivandrum. That's a strong sign the film is finding traction among Malayali diaspora audiences too. What's keeping audiences interested? There's something compelling about seeing Suresh Gopi back in his element — suited up, standing tall in court, voice booming with conviction. He's supported by a solid cast including Shruthi Ramachandran, Anupama Parameswaran, and Divya Pillai, all of whom bring emotional depth to a film that doesn't rely on gimmicks. Also the title controversy boosted the film's traction. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo The courtroom drama genre isn't always an easy sell, but Janaki V vs State of Kerala has leaned into its subject matter with sincerity. Meanwhile there are also mixed reports for the film. Whether it sees a jump again by next weekend remains to be seen. But for now, it's holding its ground — and that, for a film of this kind, is no small win.

'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' box office collection Day 4: Suresh Gopi starrer completes first weekend with Rs 3.8 Crore earning

The courtroom drama 'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' has wrapped up its first extended weekend at the box office. According to early data from trade tracker Sacnilk, the film rounded up its 4-day weekend with a total estimated collection of Rs 3.8 crore. The Pravin Narayanan directorial opened in cinemas on Thursday and began its run on a positive note, collecting Rs 1.1 crore on Day 1. However, the momentum slowed slightly on Friday, bringing in an estimated Rs 1 crore. Over the weekend, the film saw a further dip in numbers, earning Rs 90 lakh across Saturday and Sunday, indicating a decline in audience turnout, with the film earning an estimated Rs 89 lakh. Starring Suresh Gopi in a lead role, the film also features Shruthi Ramachandran, Anupama Parameswaran, and Divya Pillai . Set against the backdrop of a legal battle, JSK explores themes of justice, systemic failure, and institutional power, placing it firmly within a more serious and niche genre. Despite its limited mass appeal, the film has managed to attract a steady urban audience, especially in Kerala's multiplex circuits. However, with its weekend numbers slipping, the film now faces a crucial Monday test. As is typical for courtroom dramas and content-driven films, strong word-of-mouth could play a vital role in helping it sustain itself during the weekdays. While the film hasn't collapsed at the box office, it will need a solid performance on Day 5 to keep up with the competition from Hindi, Tamil and English film releases.

Janaki V Vs State Of Kerala Review: Suresh Gopi's Legal Drama Falters With Inconsistency

Last Updated: Janaki V Vs State Of Kerala fails to deliver shock value and drama. Suresh Gopi's larger-than-life persona clashes with the realistic setting, resulting in a convoluted screenplay. Janaki V Vs State Of Kerala movie review out. Janaki V Vs State Of Kerala Movie Review: Abel Donovan (Suresh Gopi) asks the victim of a brutal sexual assault, Janaki V (Anupama Parameswaran), 'Do you watch porn?" Almost everyone in the court and in the theatre is supposed to be shocked by that question, which seems to be the point of it. The idea here is to invoke a similar dramatic intrigue as in a scene from Pink, where Deepak Sehgal (Amitabh Bachchan) asks Minal Arora, 'Are you a virgin?" The question in Pink is justified, as Deepak intends to bring about the irrelevance of it in the context of consent. However, here the scene is exactly for all the wrong reasons. Debutant director Pravin Narayanath, who has also written the film, has intended to create an enigmatic protagonist and a sense of shock value by having a protagonist saving the wrong person in Janaki V Vs State Of Kerala. To put it more precisely, David Abel Donovan is the Devil's advocate, literally! While it sounds like a brilliant idea, the film fails to bring it to fruition. As far as the story goes, Janaki V vs State of Kerala is about an IT employee from Bengaluru who gets sexually assaulted by an unknown criminal during her visit to her hometown in Kerala. Since the victim was unconscious during the assault, the investigation turns out to be hard. Meanwhile, Janaki is found to be pregnant and she starts her crusade to live her life with dignity and seeks justice. Now, it doesn't become clear what the intention of the film is until the very end. One expects it to be an investigative thriller about nabbing the real culprit of the crime. But the film quickly finds a generic answer to it, and it moves on to another problem about abortion, which never was set up to be a conflict in the first place. The convoluted story has led to a patchy screenplay, and in the end, it leaves you wondering if Pravin Narayanath made the film he set out to make. The biggest problem of the film is Suresh Gopi. While the actor is effective in his performance and his trademark heroism, the problem is that his larger-than-life persona is incongruous with the realistic setting of the film. Before the film gets into the actual conflict, it meanders around another case of David Abel Donovan taking on the Church to bring a man of faith to justice. This and many other portions of the film that involve Suresh Gopi spitting fiery dialogues about government, women empowerment, corruption, and more don't really sit well with the rest of the movie. We also have a fight sequence that sticks out as a sore thumb in an otherwise sober movie. The film also reminded us of Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, which pretty much has a similar arc of a well-intentioned man of action committing a blunder and fixing it. Both Janaki V vs State of Kerala and Vettaiyan suffer from the same problem of having a superstar for the protagonist when the script only demands an actor who can be flawed. Since Suresh Gopi cannot be fallible, the film ends up being a generic and illogical legal drama, which gives room for the hero to deliver monologues in a courtroom where he is neither a prosecutor nor the defender. ‘Janaki V vs State of Kerala' box office collections day 1: Suresh Gopi's film gets decent start; mints Rs 1 crore

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) After weeks of buzz and controversy surrounding its title, 'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' finally opened in theatres on Thursday, July 17, 2025. And it seems the courtroom drama, starring Suresh Gopi in a powerful lead role, has managed to make a decent impression, both critically and commercially. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 1 crore on Day 1 (India net, all languages). This marks a solid start for a regional legal thriller. Steady occupancy, especially in evening and night shows The film witnessed an overall 15.94% occupancy in Malayalam screens on its first day, with numbers improving gradually through the day. Morning shows began slow at just 8.05%, but interest picked up by evening (17.73%) and reached a peak at night with 23.27% occupancy. Cities like Kochi led the way with 36% occupancy in night shows alone, followed by Bengaluru (20.75% overall) and Chennai (15.25%). Legal drama with star power Suresh Gopi steps into the shoes of Advocate David Abel Donovan, and early reviews suggest that his performance is a key highlight of the film. Anupama Parameswaran plays Janaki Vidhyadharan, whose story anchors the plot, while Madhav Suresh, Shruthi Ramachandran, and Divya Pillai round out the supporting cast with credible performances. The movie is also getting decent reviews from the audiences. ETimes gave the movie a rating of 2.5 stars and an excerpt from our review reads, "Anupama Parameswaran delivers a subtle, layered performance as Janaki, effectively conveying her mental anguish and listlessness. Shruthi Ramachandran, as Niveditha, gives a calm, understated portrayal of Janaki's lawyer. Askar Ali and Divya Pillai perform well in their supporting roles, though Madhav's dialogue delivery feels slightly off in certain scenes. The film does suffer from its length and a muddled screenplay. A tighter, crisper edit would have served it better. While Suresh Gopi's monologues are familiar to Malayali audiences, they could have been trimmed without taking anything away from the film. Towards the climax, the lengthy dialogues become long-winded and, frankly, grating so close to the resolution. Some awkward English dialogues also stand out."
