Packers release rookie S, sign rookie LB Jared Bartlett
The Green Bay Packers released a rookie safety to make room for a rookie linebacker on Wednesday. The team announced the signing of linebacker Jared Bartlett, and the release of safety Kahzir Brown was the corresponding roster move. Bartlett (6-2, 238) went undrafted out of Cincinnati this year but was signed by the New York Jets in May. He is the brother of former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt. During his final collegiate season in 2024, Bartlett led Cincinnati in tackles (69), tackles for loss (11.5) and sacks (7.5) and finished second in the Big 12 in sacks and fourth in tackles for loss. He transferred to Cincinnati after playing his first four years at West Virginia, where he played in 50 games. Overall, Bartlett saw action in 62 career collegiate games and finished with over 200 total tackles and 32.5 tackles for loss. Cincinnati moved Bartlett from the edge to off-ball linebacker, and he thrived. According to Pro Football Focus, Bartlett set career highs for pressures (25), stops (36) and overall defense grade (69.4) in 2024. The Packers announced Bartlett as a linebacker, so he'll be staying off the ball in Jeff Hafley's defense. At his pro day, Bartlett ran the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds, completed 19 reps on the bench press, hit 32" in the vertical leap and covered 9-7 in the broad jump. His Relative Athletic Score was 6.84 out of 10.0. The Packers signed Brown as a member of their undrafted free agent class following the 2025 NFL draft. Strong depth at safety likely allowed the Packers to add a young linebacker, where Bartlett will join Jamon Johnson as the two rookies competing for a spot on the roster or practice squad. Bartlett recently worked out for the New Orleans Saints. This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers release Kahzir Brown, sign LB Jared Bartlett
