ACC reveals UNC's conference opponents for 2025-2026 college basketball season

ACC reveals UNC's conference opponents for 2025-2026 college basketball season Which ACC opponent are you most excited to watch the Tar Heels play? Thanks to extensive activity in the transfer portal alone, there's plenty of anticipation for the North Carolina Tar Heels' 2025-2026 basketball season. UNC reinforced its roster with five portal additions, none more impactful than 7-foot Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar. North Carolina also added hometown kid Jarin Stevenson, who played his first two collegiate seasons at Alabama, projected starting point guard Kyan Evans, plus a pair of shooting guards in Jonathan Powell and Jaydon Young. With all the offseason excitement so far, you're probably wondering when the Tar Heels will release their full schedule. Good news: we have a sneak peek for you. On Wednesday, May 28, UNC announced their ACC opponents for the 2025-2026 college basketball season. North Carolina will host and travel to two opponents: Syracuse and archrival Duke. The Tar Heels' home-only opponents will be Pitt, Florida State, Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Notre Dame, while the Tar Heels will only travel to Cal, Stanford, SMU, Miami (FL), Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia. At first glance, I'm shocked UNC isn't hosting NC State or Virginia. Those are two of North Carolina's biggest rivals - and always highly-attended at the Dean Dome. It will be the first time in over 100 years that the Tar Heels won't play the Wolfpack twice in the regular season. The Tar Heels also don't play Boston College once, which comes as a surprise to me. UNC hosted both Cal and Stanford last season, so traveling to the Golden State makes sense. North Carolina hosted and traveled to Duke, NC State and Pitt, but not hosting the Wolfpack this upcoming season is confusing. I'm intrigued to see how the Tar Heels' newest roster additions impact their success on the court. Will any new kids make names for themselves as ACC basketball legends? Newest basketball transfer played against the Tar Heels twice in 2024

Newest basketball transfer played against the Tar Heels twice in 2024 Can Jarin Stevenson grow into his full potential now that he's a Tar Heel? If there's one team that has UNC's number on the basketball court, it's Alabama. The Crimson Tide eliminated North Carolina from the 2024 NCAA Tournament last year, then won an ACC-SEC Challenge matchup in December. Despite its recent success against the Tar Heels, Alabama has yet to win a National Championship. The Crimson Tide also enter their 2025-2026 campaign without a key player, as Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson transferred to UNC on April 13. Though Stevenson will now suit up for the team he grew up cheering for, Stevenson also had small impacts in each of his former school's victories against North Carolina. When the Crimson Tide eliminated the Tar Heels during the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Stevenson grabbed four rebounds, blocked one shot and dished out an assist in 15 minutes off the bench. Four months ago in December, Stevenson enjoyed more of an impact in 16 minutes: six points, three rebounds, one block and assist apiece. After Alabama's win over UNC last season, Stevenson spoke briefly about what it meant to play against UNC. "Tonight was definitely a surreal feeling," Stevenson said. "I've been to quite a bit of their (UNC) games. My mom (Nicole Walker Stevenson) played here too. It's nice being back and it's always great to get a win." Stevenson is now part of a suddenly deep, talented frontcourt that includes incoming 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar and North Carolina center Ven-Allen Lubin, who enjoyed a late-season ascension after replacing Jalen Washington in the starting lineup. There's also the possibility of Zayden High returning, though we have no official word on that decision yet. Jarin Stevenson following in a family member's footsteps by playing UNC basketball

Jarin Stevenson following in a family member's footsteps by playing UNC basketball Jarin Stevenson gets to continue his family's basketball legacy at UNC. Just a couple years after Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson chose to start his college basketball career at Alabama, he's coming back home to UNC via the transfer portal. North Carolina experienced glaring frontcourt issues during its 2024-2025 season, but quickly addressed that need through high school recruiting and the 2025 offseason portal. The Tar Heels already had 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson coming in, but also nabbed Arizona center Henri Veesaar. Stevenson is the newest addition to UNC's roster, but he's far from a stranger when it comes to North Carolina basketball. Stevenson's mother, Nicole Walker Stevenson, played for legendary Tar Heels coach Sylvia Hatchell from 1995-1998. Walker didn't just play for Hatchell, but she helped North Carolina win three ACC Championships ('95, 1997, 1998). Walker's UNC teams fared well in their ensuing NCAA Tournament runs. The Tar Heels made the Sweet 16 in both 1995 and 1997, then ran to the Elite Eight in 1998. Jarin referenced his mom after Alabama's big victory over North Carolina during the ACC-SEC Challenge in December, saying "I've been to quite a bit of their (UNC) games. My mom (Nicole Walker Stevenson) played here too." Jarin's father, Jarod Stevenson, played his college ball at Richmond before a largely 20-plus-year international career. Cheering for your favorite childhood team brings one level of excitement, but playing for your favorite childhood team has to be surreal. Stevenson has a golden chance to turn the Tar Heels back into a consistent winner. While we don't know Stevenson's role yet, I have a strong feeling he'll start plenty of games in Carolina Blue – just like mom. North Carolina labeled a 'school to watch' for former five-star Alabama transfer

North Carolina labeled a 'school to watch' for former five-star Alabama transfer Will North Carolina show interest in this transfer portal target? Two years ago, one of the hottest incoming freshmen out of North Carolina, chose to commit to Alabama, regardless of receiving an offer from North Carolina. Now, the Tar Heels are labeled as one of two "schools to watch" in the race for four-star Alabama transfer forward, Jarin Stevenson. Interesting to note, Stevenson entered the portal with a "do not contact" tag attached. This means two things, technically, it tells schools that they are not allowed to contact Stevenson unless he initiates the conversation. Theoretically, it means that he likely already has a landing spot in mind and doesn't care to hear from other potential suitors. Last season, Stevenson averaged 5.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. He shot 42.9 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from the three-point line. He played in 37 games in 2024-25 for the Crimson Tide, averaging 18.7 minutes per game. All of those stats are higher than his freshman season mark. Stevenson would be the latest edition of a stacked frontcourt that Hubert Davis and Jim Tanner are building. Incoming freshman Caleb Wilson is one of the most highly-touted recruits that North Carolina has ever signed as well as bringing in one of the top centers in the transfer portal, Henri Veesaar from Arizona. They retained Ven-Allen Lubin and are still waiting on a decision from Drake Powell. The potential edition of Stevenson would send the Tar Heels frontcourt from the worst in the ACC to arguably the best. Keep up with all North Carolina transfer news here.
