Everton issue hands-off warning on star linked with Man United and FOUR other Premier League giants - but a bid of £70m would test Toffees' resolve

Everton are telling suitors that Jarrad Branthwaite is not for sale this summer. Chelsea have been weighing up an approach and Tottenham are still expected to test the water but manager David Moyes wants the England international defender to stay. Moyes is mindful of how important Branthwaite has become as part of a miserly defence alongside James Tarkowski, Jake O'Brien and Jordan Pickford. He wants to keep that core foundation as Everton make the transition from Goodison Park to their new stadium at Bramley Moore and will rely on Branthwaite further with Tarkowski recovering from hamstring surgery. Branthwaite is keen to make the step up to playing Champions League football and England manager Thomas Tuchel is understood to have echoed that need for the 22-year old to play at a higher level to earn more frequent international recognition. Everton had previously been realistic with the shadow of Profit and Sustainability Rules looming over them that if they received a substantial bid in the region of £70million then that would be considered but Moyes hopes new owners the Friedkin Group can resist any advances for this summer at least. Manchester United were rebuffed with £50m offers last year while Liverpool and Manchester City have also kept a close eye on the left-sided centre back. Chelsea are expected to revert to targets such as Ajax defender Jorrel Hato and Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace. Tottenham may yet test Everton's resolve but their priority is to sort out their management position first with Ange Postecoglou expecting clarity on his future this week. Everton, meanwhile, retain an interest in Liverpool winger Ben Doak but have still to progress anything regarding a deal.

John Stones could make shock Everton return to save World Cup dream as Man City eye Jarrad Branthwaite swap transfer

JOHN STONES could make a shock return to Everton to keep his World Cup dream alive. And that may grease the wheels for Jarrad Branthwaite heading in the opposite direction as part of an all-change summer at Manchester City. 4 Stones was one of Pep Guardiola's first signings as manager — costing £50million in 2016 — and is the only one of six players to join that year still at the club. Guardiola continues to rate him as one of Europe's finest ball-playing centre-backs and would be quite happy to keep him at the Etihad. But the last two seasons have been an injury-ravaged disaster for Stones, who has been dogged by hip and particularly hamstring problems. The last of his 13 starts saw him limp out of the Champions League defeat at Real Madrid in February after only eight minutes. And as fitness concerns limited his openings at City, he also faded from the England reckoning since his 83rd appearance in Finland in October. Stones, 31, knows he needs regular games to have any chance of forcing his way into boss Thomas Tuchel's plans for next year's World Cup. But although Guardiola is happy for him to stay, there are no guarantees on how much game action he will get — even though their relationship is as strong as ever. Stones would certainly play more at Everton but he has 12 months left on a £250,000-a-week Etihad contract. And the Toffees, for all their new investment, are not going to sanction that kind of package for a player of his age and with his injury record. Yet Guardiola is well aware of that and club sources claim he would let the player go for peanuts as a gesture, which would leave wriggle room on personal terms. City would also hope the move puts them in pole position to sign Branthwaite, one of the best young centre-backs in the country. They are long-time admirers of the Cumbrian, 22, now the prize asset on Everton's books and a summer target for a host of clubs — though Chelsea remain the hot favourites. If Stones does move to Merseyside, he would be linking up with the manager who signed him as an unknown Barnsley teenager in 2013. David Moyes paid £3m even though Stones had made just 22 starts in the Championship and he had three sensational years at Goodison. Although there was ill feeling from some fans at his departure — having pushed for a move — that would not harm his return. 4 4

Chelsea weighing up approach for Everton star but David Moyes remains determined to keep England international this summer

Chelsea are weighing up an approach for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite but Toffees David Moyes is reluctant to sell him. With James Tarkowski recovering from hamstring surgery, Moyes would be thin on options at the back if Branthwaite were to depart. Elsewhere, Everton are finalising terms with Idrissa Gana Gueye over a new contract while they are in talks with Flamengo over a move for Carlos Alcaraz. Chelsea's interest in Branthwaite comes after it was previously reported that Manchester United were willing to fork out more than £50million to land him this summer. Everton had already rejected two bids from United last summer, including a second offer of £45million plus £5m in add-ons, as they wanted £70million. He also was only willing to move to a club that can offer him Champions League football as he felt ready to himself at the highest level - which puts Chelsea ahead of United in the running for the centre-back this time around. In March, The Sun claimed that United bosses were still eager to sign Branthwaite, 22, despite Everton refusing to play ball last summer. Branthwaite made his England debut in June last year but was excluded from Tuchel's first squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. Earlier this year, Mail Sport's Manchester United Confidential reported that United would turn away from a big-money defensive signing and opt for a cheaper option with potential. However, that was before Lisandro Martinez suffered a season-ending ACL injury, casting more doubt over his long-temr fitness. Martinez had already missed large chunks of his first two seasons at Old Trafford due to injury. In January, United extended Harry Maguire's £190,000-per-week contract until 2026 after his upturn in form. However, with Maguire having turned 32 this month, United have to have one eye on the next generation of defensive talent. They did hold talks over the feasability of a bid for Branthwaite in January but ended up tightening their purse strings. Instead, they spent £29.4m on wing-back Patrick Dorgu and a rather more modest £1m on Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Door OPENS for Richard Hughes to complete crazy Everton swap deal

Since then, it's pretty much been unprecedented for an Everton player to move to Liverpool or vice versa. The club's simply do not do any business with each other. But this could change this summer, with the door opening for a potentially crazy swap deal between the two sides. Advertisement According to The Times, Everton are admirers of Ben Doak and are considering a move for him this summer. The young Liverpool attacker has been impressive in the Championship during his loan spell. But it's unclear whether he has a long-term future at the club. With new additions in attack and Mohamed Salah to compete against on the right-wing, Doak's future may lie away from Anfield. The Reds would of course be reluctant to sell him to Everton. However, Hughes might be more willing to do a deal if Liverpool could get something in return. That player could be Jarrad Branthwaite. Liverpool are long-term admirers and as we have mentioned above they are looking to bring in a centre-back this summer. Advertisement Branthwaite could be the perfect option. He's homegrown, and he's a very good defender. Liverpool have been linked as one of his admirers as recently as a few days ago. The Everton defender is still relatively young at just 22-years-old. He ranks among the top five centre-backs for aerial duels won in the Premier League this season (64%). He's hard to beat, winning 72.32% of his defensive duels in total, which is not far away from Van Dijk's numbers at 73.76%. And he's comfortable on the ball averaging 8.06 progressive passes per 90, again not far away from Van Dijk's 8.32 progressive passes per 90. Advertisement It would be a completely crazy move. But if the two sides are to break an over 20-year-long tradition, the only way it would make sense is if both bring in one player from the other. This way, Everton get one of Liverpool's promising young stars and vice versa.
