Cwmbran Celtic earn 3-1 league win over Caldicot Town
The Crows came into their opening home match of the season full of optimism following a 6-1 win at Abertillery Bluebirds the previous Saturday afternoon.
The hosts broke the deadlock after 27 minutes when Aysa Al-Doori's 20-yard free kick thundered back off the crossbar before Jason Henley pounced to force the loose ball past Caldicot Town goalkeeper Matthew Sandiford from close range.
Cwmbran Town doubled their advantage four minutes after the interval when Josh Brown fired home from the edge of the penalty area after Caldicot Town were unable to clear the ball following an attack by the Crows.
The score was extended further in the 89th minute when substitute Rhys Tandy pounced on a mistake in the visitors' rear guard before sliding the ball past Sandiford.
The Jubilee Way club netted a consolation goal in stoppage-time when Cole Greenhaf lobbed Callum Brain in the home goal, but it was too late to make any difference to the final result as the Crows maintained their 100% start to the new campaign.
Cwmbran Town built on the result by overcoming South Wales Premier League newcomers Heolgerrig Red Lion 6-0 in the JD Welsh Cup first qualifying round on Saturday afternoon.
Caldicot Town bounced back in style from the league reverse to thrash Gwent Premier League hosts Albion Rovers 11-0 to progress in the cup.
