Potential Mets target Griffin Jax ‘emotionally torn' about Twins trade possibility

If you're a relief pitcher, it's almost inevitable that you'll change teams at some point in your career. Although Twins reliever Griffin Jax isn't on an expiring deal and may not be urgently sold off by Minnesota, he understands the nature of MLB. Advertisement 'Odds are I'm not going to finish my career here,' Jax said, per The Athletic. 'That's just kind of like the trajectory of a lot of high-end relievers. That's typically the path.' But while he accepts that this could likely be his fate, it doesn't mean he's any less conflicted about it. 'I'm emotionally torn because a huge part of me wants nothing to do but to spend the rest of my career [with the Twins], this is basically all they've known,' Jax added. 'But at the same time, it's exciting to see.' Those emotions of a trade could come into play at the trade deadline at the end of this month — and the Mets could be the team forcing Jax into those feelings. Brad Rempel-Imagn Images The Twins are 10.5 games back in the AL Central, and are looking like they will be sellers at the trade deadline. While Jax is under two more years of team control, the Twins are reportedly taking calls from interested teams willing to make offers for the 30-year-old righty. Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images The Mets are in dire need of a reliever, and especially one that they'll have some contract control over down the line, considering that shutdown closer Edwin Díaz is more than likely turning down his player option at the end of this season. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns may have his eye on Jax for this exact reason, and Jax is arbitration eligible for the next two years. Advertisement Jax has posted a 3.74 ERA in 46 appearances this season, while being one of Minnesota's top options out of the bullpen, and had a career-best 2.03 ERA in 72 appearances a season ago.

Newport unveils new ‘busk stops' in the city centre

Shoppers and regular visitors to the city often find themselves entertained by the wide variety of music that's performed in the city centre daily, but now these performers are being encouraged to show their craft and talents with special areas known as 'busk stops'. Seven of these 'busk stops' have been installed around the city centre, with locations in Queensway (outside the railway station); High Street (near popular music venues the Corn Exchange and Le Pub); Market bus station, Upper Dock Street; near the junction of High Street and Bridge St; Austin Friars; Commercial St (near the Charles St junction) and Llanarth Street. David and Jax are quickly finding a love for busking (Image: NQ) Having only been installed for a short while, the sites are working and already beginning to attract those who are new to the craft and reigniting the flame for others. Buskers Jax Jones and David Chapman are new to the craft. Jax said: 'I've never busked before, and David hasn't busked since 2015.' 'Newport has a really interesting music scene, and this sort of thing will encourage people to go out and busk more. There's a lot of pubs closing down so this gives us more opportunities and a reason to come out.' The sites not only allow buskers to show their talents, but it also widens the music tastes of those walking by. A quick performance of a track by American rock band Alice In Chains by David and Jax may not be the first choice for many shoppers today but the duo is helping broaden the horizons of the general public. The act of busking itself is a centuries-old tradition that is performed around the world and Newport is no exception, with the music that flows through the streets being appreciated by many. The main aim of these spaces is to enrich the already diverse and thriving music scene in Newport by encouraging even more performance. These buskers are more than welcome to now set up shop during the day at one of these designated spots and perform, instead of waiting until the evening when the venues in the area are open for business. These 'busk stops' are the next step in deepening Newport's love for music and showcasing its incredibly rich local talent.

Andy Cohen supports Jax Taylor's decision to quit The Valley

Andy Cohen has welcomed Jax Taylor's decision to quit The Valley. The 46-year-old star recently announced that he was walking away from the reality TV series in order to focus on his sobriety, and Andy has now voiced his support for Jax's decision. Andy, 57, told People: "I think it's a good decision. I think he needs to work out s*** without cameras around." The TV host believes Jax is "very committed" to his sobriety journey. Andy actually spoke to Jax off-camera about how to rebuild his life and his relationship with his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright. Andy said: "This comes up at the reunion — I have kind of a serious conversation with him about his need for control and his anger issues, and what it's going to take to get to a better place with Brittany and in the world. And I hope he takes the time to lean into this, away from the cameras." Jax recently confirmed that he was quitting The Valley. The reality star confirmed he won't be part of the third season of the Bravo show following an "incredibly challenging" year, which saw him split from Brittany - the mother of his four-year-old son Cruz - and subsequently check into rehab for mental health and addiction treatment. Jax told Us Weekly: "After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I'll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley. "Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and co-parenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz." Jax previously admitted that he's been battling a cocaine addiction for more than 20 years. He said on the Hot Mic podcast: "I have substance issues - primarily with cocaine. It's hard to say out loud. I've been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I'm 45. "There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I'd go heavy on it. "I just want to let people know this is a really, really tough disease and it's a really tough sickness."

Detroit Tigers ‘strongly' interested in two elite Minnesota relievers

The Detroit Tigers enter the All-Star break with the best record in MLB, but the bullpen has significant holes. Over the last three games against the Seattle Mariners, Detroit's bullpen allowed 15 ninth-inning runs, creating concern for the second half of the year. With the lack of stellar pitching in the bullpen, the Tigers have eyes on two elite relievers in the AL Central. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Tigers are one of many teams showing strong interest in Minnesota Twins relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax. Duran, 27, was snubbed from the MLB All-Star Game, boasting a 1.66 ERA with 43.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Jax, 30, has been better lately after a rough start, but still has a 3.92 ERA with 41.1 innings pitched in 2025. Detroit has the 21st-best bullpen ERA in MLB, and specifically adding Duran as an elite closer would transform the team. Jax was strong in 2024, and a change of scenery could put him back on track. Yet, it all depends on whether Minnesota will sell at the MLB trade deadline, as it currently sits four games back of the final Wild Card spot. If the Twins decide to push for the postseason, the Tigers will still have plenty of options available to improve a bullpen that introduced 'pitching chaos' in 2024. Detroit needs elite relievers that can lead the team in the postseason, and Duran could be what it is looking for over the next two weeks. Jax Taylor leaving The Valley

Jax Taylor is leaving The Valley. The troubled reality star has confirmed he won't be part of the third season of the Bravo show following an "incredibly challenging" year, which saw him split from wife Brittany Cartwright - the mother of his four-year-old son Cruz - and subsequently check into rehab for mental health and addiction treatment. He told Us Weekly magazine in a statement: 'After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I'll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley. "Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz.' Season two of The Valley documented Jax and Brittany's breakout and the fallout. Executive producer Alex Baskin previously told Variety: 'Our job is to tell the full story. 'If we didn't tell the story in its completeness, then we would be covering up something that really happened and denying Brittany the chance to share what she had been through. I don't think that's really 'platforming an abuser' as much as that is platforming the story — which includes Brittany's experience as well as Jax's.' The season two reunion special was recorded in May and is due to air next week, while Alex previously admitted it was "very likely" the show would be different on its return for season three. The producer noted "no one is guaranteed a job" and said: 'We're figuring out all of it. It's very likely the show does look different next season, but I don't know what different means. 'Many times before, we've had to make a change based on someone's behaviour. … We don't want to be in a situation where we are forcing together people who wouldn't spend the time together in real life. That can become taxing and difficult to watch.' Jax previously admitted that he's been battling a cocaine addiction for more than 20 years. He said on the Hot Mic podcast: "I have substance issues - primarily with cocaine. It's hard to say out loud. I've been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I'm 45. "There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I'd go heavy on it. "I just want to let people know this is a really, really tough disease and it's a really tough sickness." Brittany subsequently claimed that she spent years trying to help Jax to "get better". She said on the When Reality Hits podcast: "No one wants Jax to be better more than I do, let's be real. "I tried and tried and tried for years to help this man get better and for us to be a happy family, I was deeply and madly in love with him, there's no one that can ever deny that."
