Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar's Birth Anniversary Observed with Reverence at Jogulamba Gadwal Police Headquarters
Gadwal: The birth anniversary of (Acharya) Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar, the visionary leader who voiced the aspirations of the Telangana people and dedicated his life for the cause of a separate Telangana state, was solemnly observed today at the District Police Headquarters in Jogulamba Gadwal. Speaking on the occasion, Armed Forces Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narender Rao hailed Prof. Jayashankar as a great intellectual and statesman who became the ideological backbone of the Telangana movement. He stated that Jayashankar was a tireless crusader who brought global attention to the need for Telangana statehood and became a symbol of inspiration for generations. As per the instructions of District Superintendent of Police (SP) SP T. Srinivas Rao, IPS, the Armed Forces DSP Narender Rao garlanded the portrait of Prof. Jayashankar and offered heartfelt floral tributes on behalf of the police department. Later, police officers and staff joined in paying their respects by placing flowers before the portrait of the late leader. In his address, the DSP further elaborated on the significant role played by Prof. Jayashankar in various Telangana movements — from the 1969 agitation to the 'Idli Sambar Go Back' campaign, the Non-Mulkhi Movement, and the later phase of the Telangana agitation. He highlighted how Prof. Jayashankar used public forums and speeches across the country to expose the injustices faced by Telangana, igniting public consciousness and giving direction to the struggle for statehood. The DSP added that Prof. Jayashankar's unwavering commitment for over six decades made him the ideological architect of Telangana and that his life and ideals continue to inspire today's youth to work with purpose and dedication. The commemorative event was attended by: Office AO Satish Kumar Control Room Inspector Sampath RI Venkatesh Sub-Inspectors Sukur, Tejeshwini, and Swathi Officers from DPO Sections, IT, DCRB, and SB Wings, And other police personnel from various departments.

He emphasized that Prof. Jayashankar stood tall among the leaders who fought throughout their lives for the rights of Telangana and his name will forever be remembered for his unmatched commitment and contribution to the cause. Wanaparthy's Bhargavi bags six gold medals
Mahabubnagar: At the 55th convocation ceremony of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), held on Sunday, G Bhargavi Chary, a native of Wanaparthy town and daughter of G Yadagiri Chary and Vijay Haimavathi, was awarded six gold medals for her outstanding academic performance. Bhargavi received four gold medals in the overall university category and two more gold medals in the Farm Machinery and Food Processing departments, marking a rare and remarkable achievement. The medals were presented by Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Telangana and Chancellor of the University. Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasized that farmers are the backbone of the nation and agriculture is its heart. He said that for the sector to continue thriving, students must innovate and excel in research and new ideas. He proudly noted that India leads globally in crops like pulses, sugarcane, and wheat and has achieved significant milestones in food security. He encouraged students to explore digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, and IoT to empower farmers and promote awareness through initiatives like AgHub and RAWE (Rural Agricultural Work Experience). The Governor also stressed the importance of recognising the hard work of farmers behind every grain we consume and called on students to remember the deep connection between agriculture and society. He highlighted that agriculture today is not just limited to fields but offers immense opportunities in innovation, digital transformation, and agri-entrepreneurship. The Governor extended congratulations to all medal winners, with special appreciation for Bhargavi for her exceptional feat of securing six gold medals in a single year. He also conveyed congratulations to her parents, recognizing their role in her success.

Agri research crucial for food security: ICAR chief
1 2 Hyderabad: India must invest at least 1% of its agricultural GDP in research and innovation to drive reforms and keep pace with global trends, said Mangilal Jat, the newly appointed director general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Speaking at the 55th convocation of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University on Saturday, Jat said that strengthening agricultural research is vital for improving productivity and ensuring food and nutritional security. "Despite being one of the world's largest agricultural producers, India's investment in agri-research remains low. Many countries invest a minimum of 2%; we are lagging behind," he said. He emphasised the need for science-driven innovation that reaches every farmer and called for multidisciplinary research, the establishment of a second gene bank, and greater utilisation of ICT tools and big data. He also underscored the importance of inclusive policies that address gender and social diversity. At the convocation, degrees were awarded to approximately 830 students from the 2021–22 academic year, and around 30 students received gold medals for academic excellence. PJTAU gears up for 55th convocation ceremony
Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTAU) is preparing to celebrate its 55th Convocation on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the academic journeys of hundreds of agricultural graduates. In a media briefing on Friday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah announced that the ceremony will be presided over by the Chancellor and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma. Dr. Mangilal Jat, Director General of ICAR and Secretary of DARE, will attend as the Chief Guest and deliver the convocation address. During this convocation, a total of 830 degrees will be awarded for the academic year 2021–22. This includes 690 undergraduate degrees, 154 postgraduate degrees, and Ph.D. degrees, along with 30 Gold Medals to recognise academic excellence. Prof. Janaiah mentioned that the university's first convocation took place in 1966, attended by then Agriculture Minister C. Subramaniam. Since then, notable figures, including Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, and Manmohan Singh, as well as leading scientists, have participated in past convocations, further enhancing the legacy of PJTAU. He noted that upon taking charge, four convocations were pending, and with this ceremony, the first is now being fulfilled. Plans are in place to conduct the 56th and 57th convocations together in November, for which Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be invited, alongside a proposed grand Kisan Mela. The final pending convocation is scheduled for March–April 2026.
