Miami Dolphins stock up, stock down from Day 11 of training camp

MIAMI GARDENS -- Observations following Day 11 of Miami Dolphins training camp: Stock up CB Storm Duck Duck ran stride for stride with Jaylen Waddle — no easy feat — to prevent a completion from Tua Tagovailoa. It was just one rep, but it could be significant this fall if Duck can keep it up. LBs Grayson Murphy, Quinton Bell, Derrick McClendon They were some of the reasons that Jaelan Phillips couldn't be more complimentary in his praise of backup LBs in his huddle with reporters after the workout. Miami Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips: Let's not sweat it every time I get a bruise RB Alexander Mattison If the first two weeks of camp are any indication, Mattison is going to be the first back to spell De'Von Achane, ahead of Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II. Mattison arrived with the reputation as the power back. Don't think of him in only that light. He has shown an ability to get outside and make people miss. Stock down QBs Tua Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers The group has had a respectable camp but this day may have been their poorest. Far too many footballs hit the ground. Some were difficult throws, but others were not. Balls were underthrown, overthrown, off line. With various elements being added to the offense daily, it's to be expected, but this day was out of character for the passing game. Having said that, Wilson had a couple of moments during red-zone drills. OT Larry Borom The free-agent pickup came to camp with something to prove but had a false start. He needs to pick it up over these final couple of weeks of camp. CB Kendall Sheffield Sheffield broke up a would-be touchdown to Tyreek Hill but was aided by the fact the ball was underthrown. He also was seen trailing on other completions, although he did break up a pass intended for Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Tyreek Hill injury status: Will Miami Dolphins WR practice against Chicago Bears?

The Miami Dolphins are in Chicago for joint practices with the Chicago Bears as well as the Aug. 10 exhibition opener at Soldier Field. Of course, most eyes will be watching the Dolphins vs. the Bears in general — and look forward to some intense action in the trenches — during those practices, but we also will be looking to see if wide receiver Tyreek Hill is participating. Hill left the Aug. 5 practice early and did not practice on August 6 because of an undisclosed injury. Needless to say, the controversial receiver remains the team's biggest playmaker and his presence makes the offense go. Of course, the regular season remains a month away so as long as this is a minor injury, there is no need to be concerned. WHO'S IN THERE? Dolphins depth chart revealed before Chicago Bears preseason game: What we learned Still, it would be nice to see No. 10 on the field this week in action against the Bears secondary. We know he's in the Windy City because he posted a video of him and fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle on the team plane getting ready to fly to Chicago. With Hill missing, Waddle and Tahj Washington made nice plays during the last practice in Miami Gardens. Miami Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle: Our new assistants are 'strict' and 'hold us accountable'

MIAMI GARDENS ― Jaylen Waddle backed up Tyreek Hill on this: the two new Miami Dolphins offensive assistants are no-nonsense. "Yeah, they're very strict," Waddle said of wide receivers coach Robert Prince and senior pass game coordinator Bobby Slowik. Waddle spoke about the new guys after Miami's ninth training camp practice. "They're very on to the little details in the offense," Waddle said. "And they just harp on the little things each and every day. They're going to show you on film if you mess up, if you do good too. But yeah, RP and Slope, they bringing that edge to us, that just holding us accountable each and every day to the same standard, no matter the circumstances. And yeah, man, they just bring a lot of energy." Miami Dolphins coaches are strict on accountability: Jaylen Waddle Prince replaced Wes Welker. The Dolphins clearly wanted Hill and Waddle to be accountable in all areas of on- and off-the-field professional life. Waddle has shown marked improvement on the field this summer. He appears quicker and has been a more consistent ball catcher. Hill has promised to show up earlier and be better-conditioned. "Me and Cheetah got a brother-like relationship, on and off the field," Waddle said. "So us communicating, just us playing together for, what, three, four years now, it's like second nature. He can get on me, I can get on him. I can tell him we need more." That's very interesting. Waddle, 26, has grown a stronger voice entering his fifth NFL season. "He can tell me the same thing, vice versa," Waddle said. "So we have that type of relationship, and we know that it's not downplaying or down-talking each other. We just want the best for each other. It just helps the team." Waddle had only 744 yards receiving last year, after more than 1,000 in his first three seasons. "Really learn not to take stuff for granted and nothing is guaranteed," Waddle said. "You have so much success early on. You kind of forget how hard it is to reach the landmark." Why these WRs are must-haves in every fantasy draft

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and contributor Chris Allen dive into the "fantasy film room" to identify players they cannot live without this fantasy season. View more Video Transcript Welcome to the Fantasy Film Room presented by Toyota, the official automotive partner of the NFL. For today's film room, we are offering our final draft blueprint for success. This is the guy we do not want to leave drafts without. Jaylen Waddle. Give me Jaylen Waddle. I don't care that last season was a complete disaster for him. I want to see a full season of him healthy. I want to see a full season. I think everybody wants to see a full season of Tua Tagovailoa healthy. It's also the same offense that was passing more often, almost 39 dropbacks per game for Tua once he came back. That passing pie grew. We saw Jay Waddle still have a fairly decent a rear share. And of course, no Johnny Smith that's going to be involved. And I mean, this is more subjective than anything else, but with all the chatter that Tyreek Hill's been putting out there, how much is he gonna really be involved in this passing game in 2025 anyway? So, I'd say the beef is more qualitative than anything else, but still, we're not that far behind from seeing Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill be top 10 wide receivers. That was 2022. If we can see both of them be healthy this upcoming season, he's a guy that I do not want to leave my drafts with because I know that the Miami passing game is something that we've tried to target in years past. Just got to get the health part in check, but I believe that's going to be the case for this upcoming season. I'm all in on picking this year. I think he is the most mispriced player in fantasy right now, still going outside the top 30 receivers, right around like wide receiver 31. I've got him ranked almost 12 spots ahead of that. Again, I'm uncomfortably high on the George Pickens situation. And again, I'm telling you, man, it makes me uncomfortable. But I, but listen, the biggest reason, again, this is like, get in the film room here. George Pickens took a big step forward last year as an individual player with a career-best 72.8% success rate versus man, 77.6% success rate versus press, which is an 83rd percentile score. And reception perception really took a big step forward as a man press beater. He's a perfect fit in the vacated X receiver role for the Dallas Cowboys. And like, again, this is a guy that's put it in the box score. He ranks 17th among wide receivers in yards per route run over the last two years combined. Now his routes, his targets, his catchable targets are all going to go up in a likely pass-heavy offense with Dak Prescott. I think he could be one of, if not the most productive #2 receivers in the league as long as he's locked in. He's got every incentive to, to, to be locked in. So, Chris, at times I've been mixed in, mixed on picking, certainly in fantasy and even in real life. Uh, but this year, after the improvement that I watched last year, and again, him being in a new situation, I, I'm, I'm uncomfortably high on George Pickens. Close
