Man United 'position themselves' to sign Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta as he weighs up his options
Man United 'position themselves' to sign Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta as he weighs up his options Manchester United have reportedly placed themselves in a position to swoop in for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, if he is interested in joining Ruben Amorim's ranks. It's no secret that United are actively searching for a reliable striker following another challenging season for Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish forward has struggled to meet the expectations of a United frontman, and his future at the club now looks increasingly uncertain. Advertisement United are believed to be open to selling Hojlund, who has drawn interest from clubs in Italy. Should he leave, the 22-year-old would undoubtedly need to be replaced. Even if he were to stay, it's clear that United still require reinforcements up front. Some of the names that continue to be linked to the Red Devils include Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP), Liam Delap (Ipswich Town) and of course, Mateta. However, with United missing out on European football next season following their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, their options in the transfer market have significantly narrowed, potentially forcing them to compromise slightly on quality. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person noted that United have a B list of striker targets, which features Mateta's name. Advertisement The Frenchman has been prolific again this term, notching an impressive 14 goals and two assists in 36 Premier League appearances. He was crucial for Palace as they beat Manchester City in the FA CUp final to secure their spot in next term's Europa League. It was the first major piece of silverware in the Eagles' history. According to L'Equipe, United are among the clubs that have 'already positioned themselves' to secure Mateta's signature. It's understood that the 27-year-old is considering his options, with a view to breaking into the France national team. L'Equipe reveal, 'For Jean-Philippe Mateta, choosing his next club will be crucial. The striker still dreams of joining the French national team and competing in the 2026 World Cup with the team.' Advertisement 'He knows that his choice—stay or leave—will have significant consequences in giving Didier Deschamps more leverage to secure a call-up.' 'Mateta will wait and see what concrete avenues emerge in the coming weeks before making his choice. A return to France is not entirely out of the question.' Palace are thought to value Mateta at a whooping £50 million. Feature image Michael Regan via Getty Images Follow us on Bluesky: @

Oliver Glasner urges Palace to chase more trophies as fans celebrate FA Cup win
It rained towards the end of the Eagles' open-top bus parade, which started at the top of Whitehorse Lane before making its way to Holmesdale Road, but the weather did not dampen the spirits of the large crowds who gathered along the route to soak in the unprecedented moment in their club's history. Lucky supporters who had snagged tickets to the 'Party in the Park' then welcomed their heroes at the 101-year-old ground, which next season will host Europa League football for the first time. 'It's very exciting, and we all will enjoy this journey, playing the Premier League, playing the Carabao Cup, playing the FA Cup and playing the Europa League,' Glasner said on stage. 'Four competitions, four titles to win, let's go for every single one.' Jean-Philippe Mateta, never change #CPFC — Crystal Palace F.C. (@CPFC) May 26, 2025 Austrian Glasner, 50, led Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory in 2022, and has been credited by players and his Palace bosses for transforming the mentality and ambition of the club since arriving in February 2024. 'I couldn't be more pleased to work with a group of players like they are,' he added. 'Not just because of their talent, they are great talents, but especially what great characters they are (and) I couldn't be more pleased to manage in a club like Crystal Palace with fans like you. 'We had tough moments in this season, but you were always behind us. You always supported us, and my feeling was we were always one Crystal Palace, and that's why we could win the trophy, that's why we could succeed, so thank you very much for your support, and let's keep going like this.' Goalkeeper Dean Henderson was one of the party's most boisterous participants, first leading a rendition of 'Glad all Over' on the bus, then the less family-friendly spin on 2010 World Cup anthem Waka Waka – poking fun at Palace's perennial 12th-place Premier League finishes – he first performed at Boxpark after Eberechi Eze's goal against Manchester City secured the Eagles' first major silverware. 'This is for the fans,' Henderson said. 'You deserve this. Enjoy it, and we'll be back next season with more, hopefully.' Colombian Daniel Munoz, celebrating his 29th birthday, was presented with the players' player of the season award by former captain Joel Ward, who played a significant role in Palace's promotion in 2012-13 and is leaving the club after 13 years. Ward said: 'It's been magical, honestly, to be a part of this club's history is incredible, this group of players, this group of staff and all these fans, we deserved it, and everyone should be on cloud nine. It's amazing. 'Absolutely (beyond my wildest dreams). There was certainly a bigger hand at play, and to end it on such a high, to end it on such an incredible day, is very special.'

Liverpool end victorious season with 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace
Soccer Football - Premier League - Liverpool v Crystal Palace - Anfield, Liverpool, Britain - May 25, 2025 Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta scores their second goal past Liverpool's Alisson Becker before it is disallowed after a VAR review REUTERS/Phil Noble LIVERPOOL, England - Liverpool signed off their Premier League title-winning season on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, as Mohamed Salah's late equaliser canceled out Ismaila Sarr's opener at a jubilant Anfield. With the league wrapped up with four games to spare, Sunday's match was played in a celebratory atmosphere and Palace fans – still on a high from last weekend's FA Cup final triumph – joined in with an early chant of "champions". Sarr slotted home in the ninth minute after he was found in acres of space by Tyrick Mitchell, who had intercepted a loose pass from Conor Bradley, but conceding barely made a dent in the party. Liverpool slowly played their way into the game and Luis Diaz went close three times in quick succession, shooting narrowly wide, then heading over the bar before he was denied by a good save by Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had been booed by some fans in the wake of the announcement of his departure, was brought on at halftime to a warm reception on his 354th and final Liverpool appearance. The Liverpool academy product, who is reportedly moving to Real Madrid, nearly produced one final trademark assist, playing in Darwin Nunez with a superb pass that had his former manager Juergen Klopp in awe in the stands, but Henderson stood tall. Ryan Gravenberch received a straight red with just over 20 minutes to play, meaning he will miss the first game of next season, but Liverpool continued to pour forward. When substitute Diogo Jota crashed a shot against the post with 15 minutes left, it looked like Liverpool's season was going to end with another defeat. But they were level in the 84th minute through Salah's karate-kick finish from inside the box, registering his 29th league goal of the season to equal Andy Cole and Alan Shearer's record of 47 goal involvements in a Premier League season. Salah was given his Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Season awards by the Reds' all-time leading goalscorer Ian Rush, one of several Liverpool greats in attendance, before captain Virgil van Dijk got his hands on the Premier League trophy for a second time.
