PNP to deploy 37,000 cops for School Year 2025-2026 opening
Some 37,000 police officers will be deployed by the Philippine National Police for the opening of School Year 2025-2026 this month, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said Saturday. "Nakahanda na tayo... Nasa 37,000 police officers ang ide-deploy natin," Fajardo said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB. (We are ready. We will deploy around 37,000 police officers.) "Five thousand ang ilalagay natin sa mga police assistance desk sa mga paaralan," she added. (Five thousand [police officers] will be assigned to police assistance desks in schools.) "Mayroon ding police mobile at foot patrollers malapit sa mga paaralan," Fajardo said. (There will also be police mobile and foot patrollers near schools.) In Northern Mindanao, the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) has heightened security across the region ahead of the opening of classes. PRO-10 director Brigadier General Jaysen De Guzman ordered all provincial and city police offices to deploy maximum personnel in strategic areas, including schools, transport terminals, airports, seaports, malls, business centers, and other areas where people converge, according to an earlier report by GMA Regional TV. The Department of Education earlier announced that public schools across the country would open classes for School Year 2025–2026 on June 16, 2025 This shift marks a return to the pre-pandemic school calendar, as outlined in DepEd Order No. 12, Series of 2025. Multi-vehicle accident on expressway in Tarlac, Philippines kills 12 on Labour Day
Multi-car accident occurs at noon along the SCTEx Exit Toll Plaza located in Barangay Bantog, Tarlac City, killing at least 12, on May 1, 2025. - Photo: Philippine Red Cross MANILA: Twelve people died in a multi-vehicle collision at the northbound lane of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac expressway (SCTEX) at past noon on Labour Day (May 1), said Police Regional Office 3 (PRO Central Luzon). Central Luzon police chief Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo told that apart from the 12 people who were killed, 27 others were injured in the tragedy. According to an initial report from the Central Luzon Police Regional Office (PRO 3), the mishap occurred at around 12.30 noon at the Tarlac SCTEX Exit Toll Plaza in Tarlac City. The PRC said three SUVs were involved in the accident, along with one container truck, as well as a passenger bus. Initial investigation showed that the collision occurred after a passenger bus accidentally hit an SUV, which was at full stop, along with other vehicles at the Lane 2 (northbound) of the SCTEX toll plaza. The strong impact resulted in a ripple effect, with the SUV also crashing into the other vehicles in front of it.
