‘Joy' Review: A Rags-to-QVC-Riches Story
A cynic could question the very existence of a musical about the inventor of the Miracle Mop. But consider that there have been movies about Beanie Babies ('The Beanie Bubble'), Flamin' Hot Cheetos ('Flamin' Hot') and Pop-Tarts ('Unfrosted'), and 'Joy: A New True Musical' does not seem so random anymore. And unlike Cheetos, the self-wringing mop at least made women's lives a little bit easier — for it is they who still handle most of the housecleaning. The title inventor and entrepreneur is Joy Mangano, who had already inspired the 2015 film 'Joy,' in which she was portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence. In Ken Davenport and AnnMarie Milazzo's show, it's the Tony Award nominee Betsy Wolfe's turn to don the title character's sensible slacks. Wolfe ('& Juliet'), a dead ringer for Mangano, has a down-to-earth warmth and precise comic timing, and she is a confident singer. She is the main reason to catch the wholesome, low-boil production now running at the Laura Pels Theater. The word 'miracle' comes up so often in the show — starting with the mop's name and ending with the grand finale, 'Go Make a Miracle' — one might assume the action is set in Lourdes instead of on Long Island. Joy's rags-to-QVC-riches story did not hinge on divine providence, but on very human ingenuity, guts and persistence. We first meet our heroine in the early 1990s, and her life is a mess: She's has split from her ne'er-do-well husband, Tony (Brandon Espinoza); just lost her job with an airline; and is stuck between her separated parents, the philandering Rudy (Adam Grupper) and the agoraphobic Toots (Jill Abramovitz). Fortunately her imagination can't be tamped down, and Joy — always bursting with gadget ideas — comes up with a design for a more efficient mop. After failing to find distribution, she finally gets a break when QVC lets her peddle her ware on TV. Davenport's book takes a few liberties with Mangano's journey, but they don't impact the big picture — or appear to trouble Mangano, who's plugging the show on her website. The stage Joy has only one child, Christie (Honor Blue Savage), instead of the real-life three; Ronni (Gabriela Carrillo) has morphed from Mangano's longtime friend to a supportive QVC employee. Jennifer Lawrence Just Joined Kylie Jenner in Endorsing Summer's Biggest Trend
What's a gal with a fabulous scarf collection to do during these hot, humid months? Enter Jennifer Lawrence, who is all in on repurposing the versatile silk scarf for summer. Today, Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney, were spotted walking arm-in-arm in New York City. The actor, who has a well-documented love of tomato red (transcending baseball caps, jelly flats, and handbags alike) opted for a brightly colored T-shirt, lending a pop of color to an otherwise-neutral look. On the bottom, Lawrence wore a pair of flowing white trousers with black leather slides. Diamond / BACKGRIDUSA An expert accessorizer, Lawrence has finally hopped aboard the scarf skirt trend, trying a beige silk scarf with black trim and a surreal checkerboard print around her hips. She isn't the only one who is embracing the asymmetrical overskirt. In April, Chloë Sevigny, wore a Vaquera number that, while not a 1:1 comparison, helped kickstart the scarf-as-skirt trend again. Soon after, Alexa Chung traipsed through the streets of London, a brown Gucci scarf tied around her waist. Meanwhile, in Tuscany earlier this month, Kylie Jenner coordinated hers to her floral bikini top. With Jennifer Lawrence joining this list of stylish women, we'll call that another ringing endorsement for the scarf skirt.

Jennifer Lawrence's New It Sneaker Is Barely a Sneaker at All
All products featured on Glamour are independently selected by Glamour editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, Condé Nast may earn an affiliate commission. SINY, ULRA, REES Once again, Jennifer Lawrence is leagues ahead of the rest of us when it comes to her footwear. If you've been paying attention to sneaker trends, you may have seen it: how sneakers are becoming slimmer and slimmer, something more akin to a soccer cleat or a ballet flat than the chunky platform styles of yesteryear. It feels as though eventually they'll be nothing more than a thin rubber coating strapped under a bare foot. Lawrence's 'sneakers' are almost there. The actor stepped out in New York City on July 16 in her trusty pair of Wales Bonner Mary Jane sneakers, sort of a ballet flat-sneaker hybrid with a thick elastic strap and a Velcro closure. Viewed in side profile, a gum sole hugs the arch of the foot, giving the whole thing the look of a rock-climbing or cycling shoe. Wales Bonner Mary Jane Flat Sneakers $625.00, Ssense Salomon RX Marie-Jeanne Sneakers $150.00, Net-a-Porter The actor styled her Mary Jane sneakers with red trousers (the hems of which drag on the floor, in true JLaw fashion), a Picasso print T-shirt layered under a cobalt blue cardigan, which she'd tied around her shoulders, and a floppy black bucket hat pulled low over her face. She swapped out her favorite satchels from The Row and Fendi for a cream-colored mesh tote bag. This is a look for a woman on the move. In terms of shoe trends, the 34-year-old is always one step ahead of the curve. She was an early adopter of Alaïa's mesh flats, as well as The Row's sheer slippers—both of which became the must-have shoes of the past few seasons. And while we might balk at the price tag of her flip-flops (yes, those are $700 thong sandals), there's no denying that if Jennifer Lawrence wears a certain style, it's soon to become A Thing. She's like the weatherman of shoe trends. Stick with her and you'll be alright. Originally Appeared on Glamour Solve the daily Crossword

Jennifer Lawrence Doubles Down on the Sneakerina Shoe Trend
Jennifer Lawrence is usually an early adopter of footwear trends. As the long-held title holder of poster girl for quiet luxury (up there with Sofie Richie Grainge and the Olsens of course), she's ushered in the heatwave-friendly and now summer staple mesh ballet flat, pre-empted the jelly shoe revival, and incorporated some it-girl sneakers into her own J. Law style formula. While it took her a little while longer to experiment with the sneakerina trend, it looks like it's becoming a regular in her current summer shoe rotation—-and for good reason. Stepping out in Midtown in New York City, the Die, My Love actor made her second sartorial attempt at sneakerina styling, with a pair of black and cream-soled Wales Bonner velcro shoes. The Mary Jane style, with its thick embossed strap and Vibram sole, is also a perfect post partum shoe for Lawrence, who recently gave birth to her second child shared with partner Cooke Moroney. Photo: Backgrid It's a shoe hybrid that's proliferated on the runways and in drops from across the fashion spectrum: Simone Rocha, Cecilie Bahnsen, Louis Vuitton et al. The 'sneakerina'—a portmanteau of 'sneaker' and 'ballerina,' for the uninitiated—as a name, really, can be applied to any of the more feminine-shaped sneakers of late. Beloved by a more subversive and bold fashion set that includes Chloë Sevigny and Amelia Gray, it's a chaotic, polarizing footwear mash-up that Lawrence shows to be more versatile and relaxed than you'd first think. The rest of the outfit was textbook Jennifer Lawrence for summer. The actor wore an oversized white t-shirt with a Picasso print, a cobalt blue cardi tied around her shoulders (a beloved, transeasonal color), and loose primary red trousers. As for accessories, she forewent a deep dive into her enviable collection of vintage it-bags in favor of a cream knit tote bag, and added a black bucket hat when she'd usually don a novelty baseball cap. Has Oasis summer and the Britpop revival been an influence, perhaps? While Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner stick to the heeled sandal hybrid, Selena Gomez styles suits and thongs, and the Olsens outfit everyone in The Row's viral Dune flip-flops, the sneakerina brigade has a newfound member in Jennifer Lawrence. So if you haven't yet, now's your chance to step into the summer shoe trend seems confident is here to stay.
