K-Pop Demon Hunters will Scratch Your Spider-Verse Itch in the Meantime
It's going to be a while before we get Beyond the Spider-Verse , but there looks to be something in the way that very much keeps to the aesthetic and action-direction of that franchise—and there's something in it for K-Pop fans as well. Check out the first trailer for K-Pop Demon Hunters : Here's the official description: When K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey aren't selling out stadiums, they're using their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from ever-present supernatural danger. Together, they must face their biggest threat — an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise. The movie comes from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, and will also feature an original song performed by Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung of the group TWICE. While there are a lot of animated properties that try to be very serious when it comes to their story, it does seem like KPDH is embracing the silliness of their premise. Besides the promise of supernatural action, we also have a lot of comedy bits from the two groups—which kinds of harkens to the supplementary K-Pop material where the idols have to do cute-sy game shows and interviews. So far the movie does look amazing, and maybe this can get some more people into the K-Pop genre if they weren't a fan of it before. Catch K-Pop Demon Hunters when it comes to Netflix on June 20.

'Back to skinny': TWICE fan's comment on Jeongyeon's weight loss journey leads to backlash; know what happened
K-pop girl group TWICE is set to make a splash this summer with their 4th full-length album, FOUR. As excitement builds, the group recently dropped a teaser video that quickly went viral, though not entirely for the right reasons. The teaser opens with a dramatic focus on Jeongyeon, one of the group's main vocalists, before slowly zooming out to reveal the rest of the members. This decision was likely meant to build suspense and spotlight individual charisma. It drew immediate attention from fans and casual viewers alike. However, it wasn't long before a particular online comment highlighting Jeongyeon's apparent weight loss began circulating widely. The comment reads, 'Jeongyeon back to being skinny, everyone in their 4 inch stillettos rocking an onika wig, the blackpink shade and the run the world backtrack demo THEY MADDD.' The remark suggested that her physical transformation was one of the key reasons for the teaser's popularity and the heightened excitement around the comeback. While some praised her appearance, the comment quickly became a focal point of controversy. Many fans were quick to express their discomfort. They argued that the emphasis on Jeongyeon's body was both unnecessary and invasive. The discussion reignited broader concerns about how female idols, particularly Jeongyeon, are subjected to unrealistic beauty standards and body-shaming from online communities. Supporters of the group took to forums and social media to voice their frustration. They noted that Jeongyeon has historically been one of the members most frequently targeted with negative comments related to her physical appearance. This scrutiny, they pointed out, often overlooks her talent and contributions to the group. The sensitivity surrounding the topic is compounded by Jeongyeon's well-documented health struggles. In 2021, she stepped back from activities due to physical and mental health concerns, including a herniated disc in her neck and severe anxiety. Reports at the time indicated that medication side effects likely led to weight gain. This makes public commentary about her body even more inappropriate and harmful. Fans have since emphasized the importance of respecting her journey and recognizing the courage it takes to return to the spotlight after such personal challenges. As FOUR approaches its release, many hope the conversation shifts back to the music, the message, and the artistic evolution of TWICE. They want the focus to move away from surface-level commentary about appearances.

Twice members feature on Netflix's animated film
Trio brings K-pop spirit to a global action musical adventure Twice members have participated in the soundtrack for Netflix's upcoming animated film "KPop Demon Hunters." According to Netflix's announcement, the three Twice members -- Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung -- lent their voices to original songs for "KPop Demon Hunters," which will be released in 190 countries June 20. "K-Pop Demon Hunters" is an action-packed musical animation that follows globally popular K-pop superstars who secretly hunt demons offstage to protect their fans. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation — known for global hits like "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" — the film is co-directed by Korean American director Maggie Kang and Wish Dragon's Chris Appelhans. "We're thrilled to collaborate with Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung of Twice. Working with them was crucial to ensuring the film and its music felt authentic to K-pop culture, and it shows that our goal of portraying a real K-pop group has been realized," Kang said. Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung also expressed their excitement through their agency, saying, "It was fascinating to connect with the brave characters in the story through music. It felt even more special because it blended two creative worlds, K-pop and animation, into one." One of the most successful K-pop girl groups, Twice recently performed as a special guest at the Seoul leg of Coldplay's "Music of the Spheres" World Tour. Twice is set to take the stage as a headliner at Lollapalooza Chicago, a major music festival that will place at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois, in August.
