Liverpool's NEXT target: £45m Team of the Season star
Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Florian Wirtz. Here's what they plan to do after that. Liverpool are getting closer and closer to a deal for Florian Wirz. Securing that with Bayer Leverkusen is currently the top priority and the Reds are locked in talks with the German club. Advertisement It's fully expected that the two parties find common ground and that Wirtz signs for Liverpool. The Reds recently made an improved off and while that likely won't be accepted, a middle ground will be found. Wirtz's signing will (hopefully) follow Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman was confirmed as Liverpool's first summer transfer on Friday. The deal technically can't be completed until Sunday with the transfer window opening but everything is sealed. Frimpong is playing for Liverpool next season and in all likelihood, his mate from Leverkusen will follow him. Liverpool are not done there, though. They will immediately turn their attention to securing another deal after that - and it's another exciting one. Liverpool to push forward on Milos Kerkez The Daily Mail reports that Milos Kerkez is firmly next on the agenda at Liverpool. The groundwork for that one has already been laid - now it's about finding a complete agreement with Bournemouth. Advertisement The sticking point on that one has always been the asking price. The Cherries are after £45m for Kerkez - an incredible amount for a young full-back. Still, Liverpool hope to add the ideal successor to Andy Robertson and Kerkez is probably that. He's just been named in the Premier League Fans' Team of the Season and the expectation is that he'll get a few more TOTS nods this summer.

Man City's words to Jeremie Frimpong which made him realise he had to quit club
Jeremie Frimpong has returned to English football after Liverpool triggered his release clause at Bayer Leverkusen, six years after he left Manchester City Jeremie Frimpong has opened up about his exit from Manchester City, revealing that the club's lack of faith in his abilities led him to seek pastures new. The 24-year-old became Liverpool 's first summer signing on Friday after the newly-crowned Premier League champions activated his £29.6million (€35m) release clause, snatching him from Bayer Leverkusen. The Dutch international is making a comeback to English football six years after he left City's academy, where he had been honing his skills since the tender age of 10. Despite climbing the ranks to the under-23 level, Frimpong never got the chance to shine for City's first team. His nearly decade-long journey with City reached a crossroads during contract talks in 2019. In an early 2024 interview with SportBible, the Bundesliga title winner shared that it was City's blunt assessment of his prospects for first-team football that convinced him to move on. "I kept playing [an age group] down and I think when I was under-23's at City, I remember going in for a new contract and that's when I knew my path at City was different," Frimpong recounted. "They were talking about how I couldn't get into the team and were comparing me to other players in the academy that were doing better than me. I thought: 'Yeah, I clearly don't have a future here' so I've got to take a different step," reports the Liverpool Echo. "I remember going to that meeting and he was saying: 'You're too small,' and it'll be too physical. That's when I was thinking: 'Oh s***, where am I gonna go?'" Fast forward, and Frimpong has silenced his doubters, winning league honours with Celtic and Leverkusen, and becoming a staple for the Netherlands national team. With his move to Liverpool, Frimpong is now part of a sizeable Dutch contingent, which includes Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and manager Arne Slot. Unlike his past experience at City, Frimpong revealed that Slot has been nothing but supportive, fuelling his confidence. "I spoke to the manager a few times," he told LFCTV. "He sounds very positive. He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed. "Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you. I've had good conversations with him. "I'm really excited [to work with Arne Slot]. Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like: 'He's the best coach I've ever had.' "Things like this. So, I've always heard good things about the coach. Now he's going to be my coach, so I'm excited for that."

Transfer Updates- Liverpool close in on Wirtz, Man Utd eye Fernandes replacement
The transfer window is now open and it looks set to be one of the busiest ever for Premier League clubs. Manchester United are expected to be very busy as they look to overhaul their squad this summer after a woeful campaign. The likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Antony are all expected to be sold, while club captain Bruno Fernandes could also be on the move. Al-Hilal are hoping to bring him to Saudi Arabia, having offered Fernandes a £100m deal over three years - with another £100m transfer fee for United. Reigning champions Liverpool have already made some moves, with Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid confirmed on Friday with Madrid forking out around £8.4m to sign him a month early so he can play in the Club World Cup. The signing of his replacement Jeremie Frimpong was also confirmed on Friday, with Liverpool spending £29.5m on the Bayer Leverkusen star. Another Leverkusen player is also expected to make the move to Anfield, with Liverpool closing in on a deal to sign Florian Wirtz. Elsewhere, Manchester City are continuing their search for Kevin De Bruyne's replacement as Arsenal look to sign a new striker. With all that in mind, make sure you stay tuned throughout the day as Mirror Football brings you all of the latest news and rumours... The 2025 summer transfer window is open and it is set to get off to a flier with most of the Premier League 's big guns expected to complete deals in the opening days. That is predominantly on account of the controversial new Club World Cup that sees Chelsea and Manchester City head to the United States next week for a financially-lucrative month of action that many players are unhappy to be a part of. But its consequences are extending into this summer's recruitment as some clubs race to make signings so their new faces can compete. That includes Trent Alexander-Arnold signing for Real Madrid for £10m - despite being available for free at the end of the month. Equally several sides not competing in the CWC are getting active with Manchester United set to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m and Liverpool wrapping up a deal for Jeremie Frimpong, with Florian Wirtz potentially following right behind on the path from Leverkusen. Good morning everyone and welcome to Mirror Football's live transfer blog today. Stay tuned for all of the latest transfer news and rumours...

Liverpool 2025/26 lineup prediction with Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz included
Liverpool is sparing no expense in bolstering the squad ahead of defending the Premier League title in the 2025/26 season. Last week, Virgil van Dijk hoisted the trophy at Anfield after the Reds secured a 1-1 draw with FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. While Liverpool celebrated with the fans before ugly scenes ensued, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are firmly focused on the transfer market. Advertisement On Friday, Jeremie Frimpong signed for Liverpool, with the Bayer Leverkusen star replacing Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool triggered Frimpong's $39.2 million (£29.5m) release clause to complete the deal; Frimpong scored 30 goals and tallied 44 assists in 190 appearances for the Bundesliga club. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Florian Wirtz mega offer, Luis Diaz 'talks', Jeremie Frimpong confirmed READ MORE: Bayer Leverkusen sends cryptic Florian Wirtz social media post as Liverpool transfer edges closer Frimpong may not be the only player to switch from Leverkusen to Liverpool amid Florian Wirtz rumors. After a hectic week, Liverpool appears in pole position to secure the German international's services. Advertisement Wirtz reportedly has his heart set on a move to Anfield, while the Reds are locked in advanced negotiations to complete the blockbuster move. The 22-year-old would represent a marquee signing, and Slot isn't stopping there. Milos Kerkez, the Bournemouth left-back who starred for the Cherries this season, is another heavily linked name. With the addition of Frimpong, Kerkez, and Wirtz to their roster next season, Liverpool is preparing to field a formidable XI that could strike fear into its competitors. Despite the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer following a transfer agreed upon last year, Alisson Becker should undoubtedly remain the top choice in goal. The Georgian international will likely have to settle for a bench spot during his inaugural year at Anfield, with Alisson remaining the starting goalkeeper. However, the back four are in for a shake-up. Frimpong will vie with Conor Bradley for the right-back position, a competition that could benefit the Northern Ireland international as he works on his fitness. Jeremie Frimpong completed his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday -Credit:2025 Liverpool FC Kerkez is expected to step directly into the left-back role, replacing Andy Robertson. Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate retain their central defense positions, leaving Slot with another midfield conundrum. Advertisement Wirtz seems destined for the No. 10 role, which Dominik Szoboszlai frequently filled this past season. The German is anticipated to be a regular starter, which might relegate Szoboszlai to a rotational role. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch certainly don't deserve to be sidelined. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo bring the firepower from both wings, leaving only the No. 9 position to be determined. Currently, Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota would be the likely choices, with Darwin Nunez expected to make a move this summer. However, if funds allow it, Liverpool should be in the market for a new striker. While a move for Alexander Isak will likely prove too pricey, given Newcastle is in the Champions League next season, a former Manchester City star would fit the bill. Julian Alvarez could be available. The Atletico Madrid forward, who scored 29 goals last season, seems like a more feasible option than Isak, particularly if a swap deal involving Nunez can be negotiated. Should Alvarez join the Reds, the potential line-up for next season will have fans on the edge of their seats. Liverpool's possible 2025/26 line-up could be: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Alvarez.

Jeremie Frimpong sets ambitious target after Liverpool transfer
Jeremie Frimpong Targets Silverware Surge After Liverpool Arrival Immediate Impact and Ambition Jeremie Frimpong hasn't wasted a second laying out his Liverpool ambitions. Within moments of his unveiling, the 24-year-old Dutchman turned the conversation from his transfer fee to treble dreams. This was not the standard new-signing nicety. This was conviction. Advertisement 'For me, everywhere I've been I've always won things,' Frimpong told 'It's always been the league, cups and the league, so I've always won trebles. I want to win trebles, I want to win trophies – I play football to win trophies. I want to win as many trophies as possible.' Photo: IMAGO This isn't mere optimism. It's expectation, rooted in experience. At Celtic, Frimpong formed part of a domestic treble-winning side. At Bayer Leverkusen, he was instrumental in their Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, as well as a near miss in the Europa League final. Now, at Liverpool, the expectation only intensifies. Pedigree of Success Frimpong's CV already reads like a player well-acquainted with pressure and performance. In 2019/20, he celebrated a clean sweep in Scotland. Last season, under Xabi Alonso's historic Leverkusen side, he featured prominently in a campaign defined by unbeaten brilliance in Germany. Advertisement While their Europa League final defeat to Atalanta left a sour aftertaste, the message was clear: Frimpong arrives with a habit of winning and an appetite for more. His attacking instincts from right-back, paired with Liverpool's progressive, high-energy system under Arne Slot, could prove the perfect match. Slot's Vision and Early Opportunities The Community Shield in August offers an immediate chance to set the tone. A win against Crystal Palace might be modest in the grand scheme, but a trophy in Frimpong's competitive debut would align well with his trophy-first mentality. Liverpool have lifted silverware in each of the past two seasons and appear determined to continue that streak. High Expectations at Anfield Liverpool are no strangers to chasing trebles, even quadruples, only to fall marginally short. The desire remains, especially after the euphoric title celebrations that turned sombre just days later. With Frimpong in red, the bar is set high. His pace, tenacity, and fearlessness feel tailor-made for a side hungry to build a new era. If his past is any indication, Liverpool haven't just signed a player – they've acquired a mentality.
