Real Betis in for turbulent season as star man Isco breaks his leg
Real Betis in for turbulent season as star man Isco breaks his leg originally appeared on The Sporting News Real Betis had a pretty good year last year making the Conference League final and finishing in the Europa League spots last season. Heading into this season though, they have sold pivot Johnny Cardoso to Atletico Madrid, sold young talent Jesus Rodriguez, have been unable to bring back Antony, and now have suffered a blow to their star man Isco. According to Isco has suffered a leg fracture during a preseason game against Malaga. This injury is expected to sideline the 33-year-old for around three months. This is a huge hit to Betis's campaign as the flairy midfielder has been their most impactful player since he arrived, winning Conference League player of the season. Isco was also out at the start of last season and it was Betis's worst stretch as they had 5 wins in the 15 La Liga matches he missed. They may be able to bring in Dani Ceballos who has consistently been linked to a move away from Real Madrid and his boyhood club being Betis. This would cost a fee though as report that Madrid want around 20 million euros for him. Betis may not be able to afford this deal as they are still attempting to sign Manchester United winger Antony on a permanent deal. Betis have some transfer business to do with just a few weeks left in the transfer window and they have to get it right. If they don't get their business right then they could be in store for a difficult season that could see them slip into midtable mediocrity.

Riquelme leaves Atletico Madrid for Real Betis
"Atletico Madrid and Real Betis have reached an agreement for the transfer of Rodrigo Riquelme," Atletico wrote in a statement, without specifying the transfer fee for the 25-year-old Spanish international, who came through the club's youth system. The two teams finalised the deal last week for a reported eight million euros ($9.4 million) for half the Spanish player's rights, with Atletico retaining the other half. Riquelme will replace 19-year-old Jesus Rodriguez, who joined Italian club Como this week for a reported 25 million euros ($29.4 million). Riquelme came through the youth ranks at Atletico and played for Bournemouth and Mirandes before exploding into prominence at Girona in the 2022-23 season. He earned two caps for Spain after making his debut in November 2023. In total, he made 85 appearances in La Liga, 13 in the Champions League, and 14 in the Copa del Rey.

In particular, performances against Real Madrid and in the Conference League showed his ability, despite losing his spot to Ez Abde in the final month of the season. Como and Real Betis reach agreement Betis had renewed Rodriguez's contract, and included a €50m release clause. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all sent scouts to watch Rodriguez on the left wing, but it was Aston Villa who opened talks for Rodriguez, with Betis demanding a €35m deal. Como complete Jesus Rodriguez transfer from Betis
Como have completed the signing of Jesus Rodriguez from Real Betis. The 19-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract at the Serie A side through to 2030. The Athletic reported on June 13 that Aston Villa had made an approach to sign the Spain under-21 international, with the Premier League club looking to bolster their wide attacking options this summer. Rodriguez, 19, broke into Betis' first team during the 2024-25 season, making 31 appearances and scoring three goals for Manuel Pellegrini's side. He played eight times in his side's run to the Conference League final, and was a second-half substitute during the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in Wroclaw. ¡Bienvenido a Como, Jesús! 🇪🇸💙 — Como1907 (@Como_1907) July 2, 2025 Predominantly a left-winger, Rodriguez made three appearances for Spain's Under-21 side after making his debut in March this year. He was included in Spain's squad for the Under-21 European Championship this summer, and featured in the 3-1 quarter-final defeat to England on June 21. In January, Como signed forward Assane Diao from Betis — the Senegal international, who, like Rodriguez, is a product of the Seville-based club's youth system.
